I think the use of ther term aged rum in cocktail recipes is simply to say not to use unaged or lightly aged rums. Although even then I agree with you that it's a useless term. Because if it's simply there to allow personal choices, a lightly aged rum is just as much a personal preference in a cocktail as the vast differences between aged and aged rums.

Hey Steve, just curious; why are you not a Foursquare fan?
Good info, by the way. So many of these categories are too broad to be useful in specific contexts, and can unnecessarily mislead in so many ways.

Ha. It’s not that I’m not a fan of Foursquare. They’re great Rums. And I love the Doorlys and own the whole range. But, it’s mainly the Banter. Whenever Foursquare drops a new ECS, I just sit and laugh and watch my Insta feed as the same people clammer to show off their new purchase. My banter to them is just to purely get out of their comfort zones. To a lot of them, it’s the only rum they’ll ever buy, yet there’s 100s and 100s of other distillery’s out there, a lot… as good if not better to some people than Foursquare. It’s cool. It’s decent Rum. But I just don’t get why you’d want to own the every one. They’ll never be collectible and Rum is just for drinking. So I just want people to broaden their horizons and live a little.
(Not only that, I’m team Team Plantation…merely for the open and honest approach to Rum which all other Rum brands could can a leaf out of. I’m all for new techniques. And I’m all for pushing boundaries. Life’s too short to be dull and stuck in the past doing them same thing every time!)
