Today we are going to talk about Intensity. There is definitely different versions of what people perceive as intensity and then there is what Bryan and my definition of intensity along with the more of the advanced crowd's version of intensity.
What people generally perceive intensity is: You go in the gym. You never stop moving. You're killing it. You're taking all your sets to failure. You're screaming and flinging sweat everywhere. you're heart rate is super high the whole time. YOURE CLEARLY WORKING HARD. You're clearly expending a lot of energy and its clearly being internal spent. But that is not really intense to me in terms of actual training because it is clearly missing a big component. There is no focus or concentration. There is no execution or accuracy.
ITS LIKE SHOOTING SOMETHING WITH A SHOTGUN INSTEAD OF PUTTING A ROUND RIGHT WHERE YOU NEED IT.
Our version of intensity is going in the gym and using as heavy a weight as possible given the rep range we are going for which is typically 8-12, with perfect or near perfect form. We dont let our form go. Whenever our form is about to loosen if we want to extend the set we either use forced reps while keeping our form locked in or we do a drop set or a rest pause so we are able to keep the form and the intent on the muscle we are focusing on.

"Train the muscle not the movement", I've been saying that a lot lately.. Haven't heard it before until here and now, it's nice confirmation to hear Hunter say the same thing!

Movement doesn’t matter feeling the muscle work does. Perfect form is dangerous

@@gerardovillalobos9262 Exactly, mind muscle connection is needed to know that the right muscle is working and to make sure that the targeted muscle is the weakest link in the movement (while still being in a strong position to move the weight)

The focus, intensity, and perfect form reminds me of Dorian Yates training style.

Hunter, what determines whether you use a drop set or a rest pause set? Is it based on the safety of the exercise?
Ex. Bent over barbell rows vs. Hammer Strength Chest Press
    Or is it something else?

It is based on how we are progressing on the top lifts.
If we are progressing with the intensifier sets than we keep them in. If those sets are adding in too much volume not allowing us to recover we pull them out

Sounds like the Mountain Dog philosophy? Working to a top set or two to failure per exercise in a set rep range. Not all sets to failure??

so Bryans form on fourth rep of presses was good???...he almost blew his left shoulder out

Well also they mentioned 8 to 12 reps, often it seems like these guys hover in the 5 to 8R. I mean I dont sweat that because those ranges build muscles.

@@bryantroianello2649 Bryan but I think you are accumulating volume as you ramp up to a top set because you guys use great form. There's a misconception with this top set training that its 1 working set which is debatable. I mean id imagine you 2 or 3 sets leading up to the top set build muscle as well.

whats funny is Bryan did everything Hunter said they dont do on shoulder presses--screaming, bad form, too much weight...lol....Bryan clearly is not as strong as hunter--needs to lower the weight

@Ryan Ziolkowski but Ryan, Hunter said we do 8 to 12 reps and Bryan did 3 or 4. Just saying alot of folks over analyze this stuff so whay they said didn't exactly match up. Now in Bryan's defense all the sets leading up to the top set added to his training volume.

@Ryan Ziolkowski dude why so aggressive and insulting? why does my post trigger you so badly? are you a fanboy of these two? ....Hunter said 8-12 reps with "perfect to near perfect form"....he DID NOT say you are EVER allowed to look sloppy....do you listen at all?

This training video is several weeks old
We don’t do 8-12 on everything actually both of our best with this weight was 5 reps, Hunter got 8 I got 6 this week
It was not the best exercise to pick for this video...
Hunter is a stronger presser than me, I am stronger at pulling and legs are pretty even
