Shall we try and sort this thing out? Yes, by all means. Many claim that you are alone. Well yes, my pictures and the interviews that have been done so far are interviews that have been done with me. An agreement we made to have contact with the press at all. So we did interviews and since I was the only established member from the start that turned out as the most natural, it was difficult to feature members that had stayed in the band long enough. Later when we noticed that people thought it was fake, because of the anonymity and mystery, and we noticed that people were intrigued by it, we played along. How about this LP we just heard “massacre” from, did you play everything yourself? No, not at all, there is a full band. When I listen to your new LP, at least I feel there’s a great deal of anguish in the song. It is in my ears quite extreme music with your voice that sounds like… well it's very powerful, it sounds like what a lot of people would imagine to be the Devil himself. And the imagery of Bathory in magazines and album covers feature a lot of bones, skulls, horns, fire and pentagrams. When you put all these attributes together many would probably see this as some kind of… let me use the term “Devil Worship”. What would you say, what do you stand for? Religiously? We have of course taken a couple of steps towards the dark side on some tracks and albums, there were some periods where we took some extra steps. Let's say that we stand on both sides, on the borderline. You can’t simply choose one side, you must have alternatives. But it’s still very dark, most of this does not belong on the light side, it's more towards the devil if you will. Sure, but the world is ruled by violence and all that. This isn’t violence in that sense, it’s just evil tales. This isn’t about canons or anything like that, it’s more about demons and the supernatural. But purely image-wise, do you have to stand for things like bones and skulls you stick your tongue into. Why does it have to be like that? It’s quite destructive. It is… Well, every band has their own thing you know? All this about bones and skulls, well skulls have been a thing before, but this thing about dressing in bones and other accessories is just something is just a cheap image-thing we came up with, we would have picked something more expensive if we could, but using bones was a cheap image-thing we came up with and now hundreds of kids are running around with bones around their necks. Are they real bones? They are. You have a very special voice. How do you achieve this rusty, raspy voice you’ve got? Just scream. You scream for like half an hour and warm up to get really hoarse, then you place the microphone three meters up in the air right above you and stretch your neck upwards. Do you call this singing, screaming or what? Uhm I’ve left that for others to decide *Chuckle* But why not use your voice as it is? Why scream? To begin with, the first six months the band existed, I sang quite natural, then the microphone simply broke and since we couldn’t afford to buy a new one I just picked up the guitar and sang through the guitar-microphone, and through a couple of distance boxes and an amplifier your voice sounds pretty neat.
