This was one of the first videos I ever watched when I was first getting into pinball machines, it's amazing to think that it was almost 10 years ago now. Thank you john.
Charles Martinet got his start as the voice of Mario in both this and the first Super Mario Bros. pinball game that came out two months before Mushroom World did. Martinet has stepped down from this role after 31 years.
That music is actually kind of a bop... Mario's voice actually sounds slightly different... which is very normal, given this was Martinet's first take on the plumber!
It's so cool that because this video was uploaded so long ago no one at the time knew it was Charles yet. Crazy how discoveries are made a while after!!
This pinball was probably made in the early days of the Brothers' voices because they still have those New York-style Italian accents. Nowadays, their voices are a bit more cheerful, thanks to Mr. Martinet. ^^
Man, that really took me back. I used to love this game at the local arcade. What a nostalgia rush. Thanks so much for this great video; and seeing you learn to work the table and play it like a casual fan was a much bigger nostalgia rush than seeing you kick its butt would have been ha ha. I think there was more than one video mode too.
Nice work getting it up and running again, great feeling indeed; i rebuilt a fender twin reverb from the 80's and its awesome when these projects fire up after rebuilding them.
Nice video. I'm a big Mario enthusiast and never even knew this game existed until now. The uploader reminds me of Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the random one-octave jumps in his voice's pitch.
Oh my GOD! What in the hell?! How are you FINDING this stuff?! This was my favorite pinball when I was a kid! I swear you are finding everything on my wishlist.
This machine used to be at a Chuck E Cheese type place when I was younger. There was two different Mario pinballs and they were both very easy but very fun.
Gottlieb was at their very best in the 60's - early 80's, after that they kinda fell behind Williams and Bally, and the company closed down with their last table Barb Wire in 1996
I think the alarm thing up there is supposed to be the anti-cheat field. You know, when you bump the machine too much, the machine detects that you've been cheating and it jacks all the targets and shuts down the flippers until you lose a ball, then the game progresses normally on the next ball.
Indeed. I distinctly heard the underground music from Super Mario World and the whistle tune from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Funny thing about that one is that the whistle tune in Super Mario Bros. 3 was actually based on the tune from the original Legend of Zelda, while the tune in A Link to the Past is quite different.
I think this is a perfect example of someone wanting to get rid of something so rare and worth potentially a lot just because they can’t be bothered to fix it. Though I understand with a pinball machine they can take up a lot of space. But surprised he didn’t just look inside to find what was smelling bad lol Would have loved to own this beautiful machine I’m sure you’ve figured this out in 12 years if you still own the table but if you hold your flipper up opposite the pipe your ball will pop out its supposed to land on it perfectly every time. What seems like a very difficult mechanic makes for an easy ball control mechanic It’s really that left yellow mission ramp that is the hardest shot to make with the right flipper. Gotta make the shot with the very tip of the flipper to get it up there. Really love the music in this game too, some tracks sound similar to sonic the hedgehog songs to me from the Genesis days
Just seen one of these for the first time at a kids amusement center here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada but I have yet to try it. Looks kind of fun. Nice video!
This is just soo creepy.. I dreamt about a small shop downstairs in some house I'd bought unseen, and it had a half dozen unusual pinball machines.. a baseball one, an australian one, and *this* one. they were all unusual.. the baseball one for instance wasn't a baseball "themed" one, but actual bats for flippers, i strange places. lots of green on the table. The Australian one had a very unusual bacvkbox.. only about 10 inches high, maybe..Thing is I'd never seen *any* of these before my dream
His reason for excitement is he got the game for 275.00 at a garage sale, it is very rare. Ghost shot will remain un-obtainable until the mechanical p/m issues are addressed instead of cosmetics like the apron.
I got one of these recently. Heck of a lot of fun to play in my opinion! Needing to fix the bottom pop bumper as it keeps shorting but I'm going to take another crack at it today to get it working. The way to beat that video mode is that you just wait until the last second to jump the obstacles. Typically in a Mario game you can jump ahead of the obstacle a bit and still clear it... This one the hitboxes lean more toward getting really close to the obstacle and jumping right in front of it to clear it. So you can get right up face to face with the ghost and then jump and it clears. I clear the video mode about 90% of the time now. :) My driver board is a bit messed up also... hopefully I don't have to replace it. Seems like quite the expense just to avoid a bit of wire jumping. It's about $122 after shipping. I think that will be a last resort for me. Wish I could find the NOS stickers and plastics for these like you could 7 years ago! LOL. I don't necessarily *need* them but they'd be nice to have as spares.
thanks for your video, i am only 26 years old but i am a pinball fanatic as many of the machines most of us like were in their "hay-day" in the late 80's-90's
Too bad they'll never have this on Pinball Arcade (I have the feeling they'd have to get a license from Nintendo and not just Gottlieb), I'd love to play it and I have a feeling the real machine is somewhat rare.
I've played this so many times when I was a little kid. The campground I used to go to had a little arcade and for years they had this table. Unfortunately, they ended up replacing it with a different one. I haven't seen this table anywhere in years. I'd dump a shit ton of money into one if I ever encountered another one.
Beautiful pinball machine. I didn't know that there was a Super Mario pinball machine. Gottleib is well known for making some bad ass pinball machines. I don't know if they still make them though.
Omg I'd love to have a garage filled with arcade machines like that. Even if they were broken. I wouldn't care. Would be a healthy hobby learning how to fix stuff like that anyway.
at 1:29 i was like WHOA!!! cause i didn't realize there was no cover on the pinball playfield thing.. i really like how it has a video mode... i've never seen a pinball machine like that
Man I've been trying to find one of these forever. When I was a kid I'd go to the dinner down the street and play this pinball all the time. I've been trying to buy one but they seem pretty hard to find.
i've always loved video games and i played pinball and thought "so what i don't get it" until i played this mario game at Vegas...i LOVED this mario pinball game and I WANT IT!!!! SO BAD my childhood memories
So far... only 2 pinball games have robbed me in my life One- I can't remember what it was, but the ball got totally stuck in the obstacles, and the game just shut down on me like a tilt (What a rip) Two- A Spiderman Pinball game, I started it without realizing the left flipper wouldn't work... luckily I told the front desk and they gave me my credits back. Still... I love pinball!
John, why don't you like LEDs installed in pinball machines? I know that LEDs installed in the backbox of pinball machines saves paint from chipping off of backglasses. Plus, I think that if you color coordinate LEDs on the backglass and play-field, less fade occurs, compared to if you just used a white LED or a regular incandescent bulb.
I would say that Its about the feel of if.. Its worth the maintenance to get the smooth flow of a bulb rather than the strobe affect of an LED. So to say it feels more analog than digital.
This was one of the first videos I ever watched when I was first getting into pinball machines, it's amazing to think that it was almost 10 years ago now. Thank you john.
I remember playing this at the local bowling alley, which sadly went out of business this year. I miss those days so much.
This machine is pretty rare, wonder where there’s went?
Good question. They had prizes for ticket, so the ticket dispenser was giving out tickets.
Charles Martinet got his start as the voice of Mario in both this and the first Super Mario Bros. pinball game that came out two months before Mushroom World did. Martinet has stepped down from this role after 31 years.

@@lizziewaymire2001 indeed, it's like this fascinating time capsule...
This pinball was probably made in the early days of the Brothers' voices because they still have those New York-style Italian accents. Nowadays, their voices are a bit more cheerful, thanks to Mr. Martinet. ^^
"MARIO says Say NO to Drugs"
He does, indeed. Listen to him. He's smart.
...while eating magical mushrooms
AND IF YOU DO DRUGS YOU GO TO HELL BEFORE YOU DIE.
Anyone else notice the Link to the Past sound when it mentions secrets on the screen?
YES! The flute boy from the animal grove's tune.
Nice work getting it up and running again, great feeling indeed; i rebuilt a fender twin reverb from the 80's and its awesome when these projects fire up after rebuilding them.
Fun fact: you can actually see toad but it's the Super Mario Brothers Super Show art style recolored of the regular toad
Awesome pinball machine. It is actually based off of the super mario super show cartoon.
Nice video. I'm a big Mario enthusiast and never even knew this game existed until now. The uploader reminds me of Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the random one-octave jumps in his voice's pitch.
This is the first time I have ever seen one of those.
And I have to say...that is the coolest freaking pinball machine! lol
Thanks for the look.
Love the psa. "Mario says NO to drugs". World's biggest hypocrite.
All while taking stareiod mushrooms
LOL
XBOYS magic mushrooms my friend
You go to hell before you die!
Oh my GOD! What in the hell?! How are you FINDING this stuff?! This was my favorite pinball when I was a kid! I swear you are finding everything on my wishlist.
The art style is either super mario bros 2 or 3. The power ups/worlds are super mario bros. 3 The music is Supermario World
I WANT THIS MACHINE...
Love Super Mario ,beautiful machine!!! Great job fixing it up.
This machine used to be at a Chuck E Cheese type place when I was younger. There was two different Mario pinballs and they were both very easy but very fun.
5:16 Yes, it's from SMB3. Although there's a chance it's based off the SMAS version.
This used to be my favorite game back in the 90's at Chuck E Cheese, but ironically I don't think the unit there was equipped for dispensing tickets.
Gottlieb was at their very best in the 60's - early 80's, after that they kinda fell behind Williams and Bally, and the company closed down with their last table Barb Wire in 1996
I remember playing this on a camp site arcade room and getting the high score a couple of years ago
I loved this pinball machine as a kid. It was one of my first machines that I really got a feel for the game.
never saw or played this machine. I am guessing it was after Mario 3 and around the SNES Mario era.
I think the alarm thing up there is supposed to be the anti-cheat field. You know, when you bump the machine too much, the machine detects that you've been cheating and it jacks all the targets and shuts down the flippers until you lose a ball, then the game progresses normally on the next ball.
At the time I made this video I was pretty timid about doing board work. I would totally try to fix the board these days.
Wasn't that warp whistle noise from Link to the Past?
That it was! The warp whistle sound from the Warp Zone on Mario 3, and the flute sound from Zelda were identical as well.
Ross MacPherson And also the crystal sound at 6:31.
Very nice video. I think I found my new favorite arcade UA-cam channel!
*4 years later*
Cool. I think I played this when I was a kid. Really excited because it was Mario related. Not so excited to find out I was bad at pinball.
It does, between 3:53 and 3:56.
The actual line is as follows.
MARIO Says "Say NO to Drugs"
Indeed. I distinctly heard the underground music from Super Mario World and the whistle tune from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Wait, who voiced Mario for this game?
We had one of these in mr ts arcade in blackpool in the 90s I've only just realised how small it is now compared to other pinball tables
This is just soo creepy.. Big fan of your pinball reviews. Keep it up, and happy to be subscribed!

OMG,,,,i collect Mario and i love your arcade pinball Nice work and thanks for sharing
INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, AWE-INSPIRING!!! DAMN I WANA BUY THIS!!
This was just suggested to me. Some great games in this video!
where did you get that. i am a huge mario fan and would like to have it when i have a home arcade when i get older.
2:59 What's mario doing with that mushroom (on the side picture)?
I got one of these recently. Heck of a lot of fun to play in my opinion! Needing to fix the bottom pop bumper as it keeps shorting but I'm going to take another crack at it today to get it working.

How much did you pay for yours
thanks for your video, i am only 26 years old but i am a pinball fanatic as many of the machines most of us like were in their "hay-day" in the late 80's-90's
Oh wow, I had no idea before that there is a pinball game that A: is a Mario game, and B: has some of the music from Super Mario World!
my son would LOVE this machine, he loves Mario so much that he won't let me be Mario anymore :)
Buy The Machine And See If he enjoys the game. I wrote a letter to asking for the Simpsons mini Arcade game.
This is *super* cool. I love the art!
That's so awesome. The sounds really get to me.
That looks... BRILLIANT!
a campground i went to when i was little had this machine it was so much fun
I don't know why I watched this. But very interesting. Not to mention noble, restoring a classic!
Too bad they'll never have this on Pinball Arcade (I have the feeling they'd have to get a license from Nintendo and not just Gottlieb), I'd love to play it and I have a feeling the real machine is somewhat rare.
Dam bro I love that pinball machine my son of 8 yrs old is a huge super Mario bros fan that would look great in his room
I have one forsale
I've played this so many times when I was a little kid. The campground I used to go to had a little arcade and for years they had this table. Unfortunately, they ended up replacing it with a different one. I haven't seen this table anywhere in years. I'd dump a shit ton of money into one if I ever encountered another one.
I have one forsale
I have a pinball machine without a coin slot how can I add 1
Very nice video. I'm picking up the Full Size Mario Bros. Pinball in Minneapolis on Monday!
It has been exactly 10 years since John uploaded this
Used to play it at chuckie e cheese when I was a kid great pinball machine!!!
Dang it this was my favorite pinball machine!
Beautiful pinball machine. I didn't know that there was a Super Mario pinball machine. Gottleib is well known for making some bad ass pinball machines. I don't know if they still make them though.
the whistle has the sound of the flute from a link to the past. At least, in a few notes that is.
the drop targets are computer controlled right? the necessary targets stay up while all the others fall down
That's a pretty cool pinball machine, it looks pretty small.
cant believe u got rid of this
wtf johnny
Hello friend. Can I use some footages of your video for a video that I'm making called the ( History Of Super Mario 1981 - 2017 )
Cool video! Awesome how u can fix these things. Think I might watch it again after this...
Omg I'd love to have a garage filled with arcade machines like that. Even if they were broken. I wouldn't care. Would be a healthy hobby learning how to fix stuff like that anyway.
@blkdog7
How much is a working one of these worth?
Where did you get the new driver board?
at 1:29 i was like WHOA!!! cause i didn't realize there was no cover on the pinball playfield thing..
i really like how it has a video mode... i've never seen a pinball machine like that
Only 500 of these were made, so you are lucky to have one!
You're right.
519 units, to be exact.
www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=Super+Mario+Bros.+Mushroom+World&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick
Do you still have this machine? It looks really fun!
Such a rare game. I've only seen one in the wild since it came out.
Man I've been trying to find one of these forever. When I was a kid I'd go to the dinner down the street and play this pinball all the time. I've been trying to buy one but they seem pretty hard to find.
zakk carleton They only made like 500 of them. They ARE hard to find.
I really hope John that you kept this, if not get it back, this game is so underrated because of its size
Man the Pool I used to go to had one of these.
I loved it!!!
I like hearing that knocker coil when it knocks :)
Great find! We are looking for one of these so the little kids have a pinball their size to play. Pac-man-Pat
Neat, we have a regular one on location in Jacksonville, FL.
Wow that's a pretty awesome machine there. I've never seen a ticket mode machine, but I've always wanted there to be one. I guess there is now.
how much can someone make on a table like that?
I want this, how much is it?
Looks really nice.
i've always loved video games and i played pinball and thought "so what i don't get it" until i played this mario game at Vegas...i LOVED this mario pinball game and I WANT IT!!!! SO BAD my childhood memories
It's an odd little game. The kickouts by the flippers actually feed the opposite flipper, so be careful there.
So far... only 2 pinball games have robbed me in my life
One- I can't remember what it was, but the ball got totally stuck in the obstacles, and the game just shut down on me like a tilt (What a rip)
Two- A Spiderman Pinball game, I started it without realizing the left flipper wouldn't work... luckily I told the front desk and they gave me my credits back.
Still... I love pinball!
It usually says inside the game by the lockbar or you read the manual! :)
That machine is amazing!
I still love this video
This triggered a core memory 🎉
I'd love to purchase this John. please ?
Hey John if you still have the pinball I'd love to buy it from you
I have one forsale
Someone should re-record the voices with the newer voice actors. That would be a great modification,
all the sounds while playing the game so many memories, I played this so many times as a kid.
Alain Bohon Such a great pin! I MISS IT.
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech what did you do with it
me too
1:17 1:59
I used to love playing this game as a kid because it would spit out a shitload of tickets, haha.
Is this pinball rare
Does that pinball is for sale?
Ah, classic! I use to play this game at a local skating link. I swear I could play forever on $2.
John, why don't you like LEDs installed in pinball machines? I know that LEDs installed in the backbox of pinball machines saves paint from chipping off of backglasses.
