    Thank you for the video, it is a very clear explanation of all parts of the shot. I just have one thing to query. As you finish your scissor kick you keep your foot perpendicular to the baseline. I was told to avoid doing this as it puts a lot of strain on your achilles tendon and does not utilise your body biomechanics properly. Instead I was told to turn your foot outwards to that it is somewhere between 0-45 degrees to the baseline (depending on playing comfort). Since altering to this method I have found the pain in my achilles has gone. If you watch the pros (even in this video) you will see they do this. Do you have any comment?

    Hi Coach
    Glad to see you posting videos again!
    I am a junior with a weak smash. Anyone can return my smash with a high lift. This forces me to keep smashing and I get tired very fast. People can even return my "netkills" or some easy midcourt smashes. Do I need to go to the gym or improve my technique. I think sometimes I accidentally slice the shuttle.
    Thanks
    Natty

  • @sieg4014
    @sieg4014 8 років тому +1

    Mr.Kowi, thanks for the video. Really detailed and concise. However, i have heard that the flexing of the wrist at the moment of impact is wrong. it should be pronation instead and the wrist should go from cock to neutral position only, with the flexing of the wrist. This can be seen for all international players smashes or clears in slowmo, their wrist stay relatively neutral with the flexing of the wrist. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  8 років тому

      Hi Joel, your comment is valid. I think you are right, you still need to do arm pronation before flexing the wrist. But for certain shot such as flick shots/ sudden shots , mostly only use your wrist. One day I will try to cover this question on my future coaching video. Please let me know if you have any other comment. thank you.

    • @sieg4014
      @sieg4014 7 років тому

      KC Badminton thanks for the reply but what i wad trying to say is that i heard from other people which says that the power comes from forearm pronation only and not the wrists at all. The wrists does not go beyond the neutral position. Is this correct?

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  8 років тому

      +Gulamabbas Khimji Yes, you can do sidesteps if the opponent shot is far on your forehand corner. please see this video on this link : ua-cam.com/video/Fnr5aiNe_h4/v-deo.html
      ( min : 5:16 ) hope this help to answer your question. Thank you.

    Hello Coach Chandra, how should I lock and unlock the wrist when i hit the shot?

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  10 років тому

      4dv4rch3r Hi there,
      thank you for your question. let me give you example, it is very similar like basketball, if you shoot a ball to the ring, before you shoot the ball you will bend your wrist backwards, with ball in your palm (that's what i called locking your wrist), when you shoot the ball to the ring, you will flick your wrist forward (that's what i called unlocking your wrist). That's just the example and i hope you get the picture of it. :) So when you hit the shot in badminton, you apply the same example as i explain above, by flicking your wrist to hit the shuttle. let me know if this answer your question. Thank you.

    • @4dv4rch3r
      @4dv4rch3r 10 років тому

      kowChan86 Thank you for the reply, I was just wondering because I was told that the proper way is to keep wrist still and use forearm rotation to hit the clear. Have you heard of this method to hit?

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  10 років тому +1

      4dv4rch3r Hi there,
      Yes, i know what you mean. use forearm rotation to hit the clear is correct, i do use that too, but when make an impact to the birdie, you must apply a whipping motion using your wrist, so that you will get extra power on your clear shot. If your wrist still when you do clear or even smash shot, potentially your shoulder will tent to get stiff. I guess it depends on skills level as well, if you have a strong wrist, you can actually make a clear shot by only whip your racket and squeezing your finger. But yes, you can use your forearm method, it will work too as well.

    Hi Coach Chandra, I did the methods that you show in the video but somehow my clear shot can not reach all the way to the baseline. The birdie usually end up in the middle of the opponent's court. Is my wrist too weak or I hold the racket too tight or other problems??? Please help.

      Hi there, thanks for asking. I wish i can see how you clear, so i can identify the problem. How long have you been playing badminton for? and what is your level? are you still beginners? i can only advise to practice more, it will take sometimes to develop strength on your wrist. But most importantly, make sure you have proper form swing motion and correct contact point. ( If you can record your video, i probably can help take a look the problem) hope this help.
