I'm late to this but I found this a really cool Rebrand Check list for marketers and designers. 1. Make sure your new id connects with what you do. 2. Make sure it has depth, is flexible, provides you with lots of communication options. 3. Be BRAVE! I think Zendesk has been really courageous and thoroughly true to what they stand for.
I love the process. Hearing the story, seeing the many iterations, and seeing the final icons and logo makes so much sense to me. My ux cohort and I really loved what you guys did. #inspired
Really appreciate you guys sharing this story, it really brings to light the internal struggles when dealing with a rebrand. Although I can't say I love the new direction. I definitely understand the need to get away from an icon that you feels too constraining. Maybe redesigning the buddha in a more geometric form with additional geometric accents might have been a cool solution. Very inspiring... thanks again!
Sweet video and sweet people! Personally I'd opt to updated and refresh the Buddha instead. Now you just seem generic like all other software companies :( By the way, the icons at the very end of the video are so funny - these are just shapes and they do not help quickly grasping what the items (chat, connect, explore, etc) are about. If these icons are actual in-app icons then they don't really accomplish the purpose of icons, lol...
I really enjoyed this short. It surprised me how real and genuine the tone was. I believe it touched my soul! >.

Inspiring and authentic story. Brilliant design. This took courage. Way to be bold.
It's a really nice redesign but this is the least courageous think I can think of haha
