- This is the first video out of 3 showing on how to install a new electrical wiring on a David Brown tractor 990. However it applies to most DB's. In part 1 we prepare the loom in the engine bay and some connections on the dashboard. Part 2 completes the dashboard and Part 3 is all about the rear lights and blinkers.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I need to rewire my 990 and I'm so grateful to you! 👍
as others have stated..congratulations on your continued success with subs/views..always felt that you are one of the most under rated content makers on YT..always informative..wide ranging of subjects..and interesting vehicles..plus your farm/estate is stellar..peace and health..
Much appreciated
Congrats on 40K. I remember that I found your videos one night around 2am in my "Recommended" list. I think it was your video about how to remove Ivy from walls. I found your Land Rover and bulding videos, and I subscribed:)
Awesome! Thank you!
Sorry to say that but you are a bit wrong about the key switch because you have forgotten the switch for the heater
Normally it should be like that( there are some numbers at the back of the switch):
1 : power suplie in
2 : electricity alimentation to lights switchs and horn or other things
3 : power for the heather
4 : power to start the tractor
Anyhow very instructive video with some really good lessons about restoration and stuff.
Hi, well some have a heather, mine does not. But if you have a heather some can be connected to a separate switch ( push switch), or indeed to position 2 of the contact switch and then position 3 for the trip wire. Its a good point and `i should have mentioned that, but as mine has never gotten a heather , I did not cable it in...
Got the same wiring loom and installing now. Looks like wiring for only one headlight, how did you overcome this?
Any clue on wiring for the 780 ignition switch? is it the same?
Great video. Thank you.
I find electrics very confusing. Your explanation breaks it down to understandable stages.
Thank you.
You are welcome!
Many thanks again. I watch every video you post Steve . Really enjoy your content!
Glad you like them!
I don't know if it's possible, but if it is, I would remove the tube that holds the wiring loom, cut a channel in it in the backside/facing the engine that is wide enough to pass the cables through.
that could be an option
A Dutchman with a South Dakota accent? Hmmm.
Is that so South Dakto accent ... I iwill need to check that lol
Can you let me know where you purchased the wiring looms please

@@D3Sshooter thank you! Love you series on the 990. It has inspired me to start on mine, which is now in my workshop as my winter project. All the best
Hi Steve,
Thanks for all of your videos depicting your repairs and restoration to the David Brown 990 Selectamatic! They are not only very interesting but also informative to me as another owner of one of these fine tractors. Do you think that you might ever create a video concerning the power steering pump on this machine? I have ulterior motives, of course, because I'm going to have to put new seals and a new filter in the power steering pump of my DB 990.
Hi Richard, I would do so... yet mine is all muscle power... no power steering.. If I come across a unit .. I might
Hello from New Zealand, thanks for your excellent videos. I am currently refurbishing a '72 David Brown 990. As you pointed out, removing the steering column allows better access to the dash. However, in doing so, I have somehow disconnected the steering column entirely, allowing the ball bearings to fall into the oil below. I have managed to fish them out of the oil, however I am struggling to reassemble the steering assembly. Any ideas, advice or additional information? Thanks again, Jakob
Thanks for the comments, hmmm I need to think about that ...never happend to me
Couldn't you have unpinned a connector to pull the wire to the alternator??
In that pipe?
Looks great and should give many years of trouble free service!
👍
Yes, you are right I could have done that...
One thing I have found helpful is to us "Flush Cut" diagonal cutters when trimming cable ties. This will eliminate the sharp edge left by standard diagonal cutters and help avoid cuts on your hands later when servicing the tractor later...
Thanks for the comments, and tip
Loving this build series. It’s really taking shape!
I guess you could always de pin the front harness main connector to thread it through the tube the repin it afterwards?
Thanks for the comments
Very interesting, electric work is fun just like solving a jigsaw puzzle. A mug or two of coffee/hot chocolate and its heaven on earth!
Very true!
Everything you do, you do it down to the last detail. The guys with the thumbs down are just jealous and can't do anything with their hands..Very good job in all areas Steve.
Thanks for the comments, I think I know where the thumb down comes from... Old Rusty fans... I don't worry to much about it. After all we al have an opinion
@@D3Sshooter Yes that's true. In any case, i'm happy about every new video about old and rusty. Best screwdriver greetings to you steve BR Olaf
Mooi gedaan.
Steven, you can disconnect the pins from the alternatorsocket easely to guide the wire through the tube, can't you?
They make tools to let you remove terminals from a plastic connector body. Would allow you to remove the wires to run thru the tube, then replace the terminals back into the connector body. They are actually very cheap. I have a couple of different sets.
You could, but its also the other spades...
Need to get some . TXS
What type of fuse box did you use please?
Thanks for the comments, there is no brand on it . It has 8 fuses and can be procured at histoparts in the Nederlands
Fantastic video. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am wiring missing safety switches on my new ( old ) garden tractor package deal i found last week ...luckily i have a spare frame and parts tractor for parts!!
