      Whenever women deem themselves as "better than men" and think they are all brave goddesses, they usually adopt actual toxic masculinity and shun femininity as weakness. Ironic. I always look at these women fighting, and in most cases, the men are badly hurt and wounded, while the women look like battle goddesses that are impenetrable and barely scathed. And you are right, a lot of the stuff in the movies DO NOT make sense. However, I still like Wonder Woman (just the first movie, the second one was dumb) and Black Widow. The idea of brave, kick-butt women who are experts in martial arts and fighting is still pretty cool. If they had made it slightly more realistic (with less wokeness) I think the movies would’ve been better.

      I feel as though the fight with Black Widow in the first movie is quite realistic. We have to remember that she is very well trained in her craft and is quick witted while her opponent sees her as easy bait. If someone like her can get others to underestimate her, it’s a very easy win and take down. Women can be much more agile and smart in their fighting while men are more strong and fist for a fist. Both get you to a win using different strengths and abilities.

    Hello! :) As a geek first and foremost, yeah, this got my attention...
    I'll only disagree with you primarily in that it isn't those five heroes who are lame, *it's the creative forces who write and handle those characters.* It's all about how something is executed, and once upon a time superheroes were usually written and drawn well in the comics. (Current Year Marvel and DC are anything BUT good these days! Believe me, if you think these movies and TV shows are bad, just pick up a comic where literally nothing happens except for a bunch of nonsense talking with all kinds of signalling and politics. In other words, not even kids would want to read them.)
    In the case of most of the ladies on your countdown, I'm a fan of all of them except Batwoman; I never got the chance to read any of her books. I definitely never saw her stupid show that got cancelled -- I know I missed nothing. Wonder Woman, Black Widow, She-Hulk and Captain Marvel were honestly written and drawn by people who cared and just wanted to give readers a fun romp of an adventure. I've had *years* of reading the adventures of a lot of these heroes from back in the day. Believe me, Widow herself in the comics was much more than an ordinary woman, but writers were still intelligent enough to show that even she would have serious trouble with really strong men, especially super-powered villains! Captain Marvel may be the saddest case...back when she was created, Carol Danvers was meant to be a feminist archetype, but this was back in the 1970's when feminism was at full swing. Still, Carol grew and evolved thanks to many great writers and editors to become more than an 'I am woman' kind of hero. She was human in spite of her powers, she failed at times, and she was relatable. :)
    And then not long ago, Marvel retconned her in the books into the *neo-feminist* 'girl power' Captain Marvel you can't stand. Trust me, anyone who loves the original Carol Danvers doesn't like her much, either. I'd almost argue that CM should be number one, but CW Batwoman earned that place just for saying that Batman's suit would be perfection "when it fits a woman". That's how stupid Current Year storytellers have gotten!

    Something else I noticed is how a lot of the time if a female "superhero" battles a male character there tends to be some kind of implication that a woman is the one beating a man up, yet this is never implied when male superheroes battle female characters. Even if it's just a regular man battling a woman they never make a point of telling the audience that a man is the one beating down a woman but when it's the other way around it's usually used to further degrade male characters in a way that's never reciprocated.

      I agree to a point. However, I'll refer you to the first "Kick-Ass" movie. In that one, there's an eight year old girl getting absolutely beat down by an adult male. It's a dark comedy, but I played it for my parents and my mother couldn't believe that particular scene made it into the movie. And she's right...it's tough. But it's also more grounded than what Marvel is doing.

For context, she's far beyond superman but she has no idea in this scene that she is that powerful. She can not only jump enormous distances, she can actually fly. She was raised with the Amazonians and treated as human. Until her demigod powers revealed themselves during training exercises and caused her to injure other people, she didn't know she was different. Nobody ever told her what she was. She was never trained to use her powers, so she discovers them as the movie progresses. The second movie is fucking terrible though. This one is actually good.

Captain Marvel has been around since 1968, was a man in the beginning. Batwoman has been around since 1956. I don’t particularly like female superhero’s, but come on, Hawkeye also has no powers and seems invincible, Tony Stark only has a robot costume, but somehow survives the brutal beatings to his very normal human body. I don’t know how this list was compromised, but listening to your arguments for each of these makes no sense compared to the “superhero world”. BTW Black Widow is a bada$$. A lot of fantasy and fiction doesn’t translate well from one form of media to another, as I’m sure you’re aware. This is especially true when those presenting the stories don’t know what they’re dealing with or use stories as vehicles for their own political or social voice; the latter is nothing new, just more blatant and obvious these days. Black Widow is the odd one out as, in her early MCU Avengers appearances, she was true to her super-soldier/KGB origin.

But yeah, even with all that she’s kinda lame for dressing up like she’s a background dancer for some 1940’s WW2 theatre performance. Doesn't it wholly defeat the purpose of "empowerment" if the female characters talk about being women all the time and how amazing it is that they're women 'doing what only the men can do'? I'm a woman and it makes my eyes roll into the back of my head when they shovel this kind of agenda writing into these films. You see right through it, and it personally lifts me right out of the film. How about...just write a character as a character? And actually think about what you're writing? Instead of focusing on her being GIRL. It's so boring. Want to empower young women? Just write a female character as a normal person.

Also, Matt actually think cos Scarlett is 5 foot 3 and weighs 90 pounds she couldn't do all that. Well, she couldn't but the character could. Cos the character is Black widow, not Scarlett. And if you follow the Black widow character, it makes sense, what she's been through and all. Talking about superheroes we all know that it's make-believe, they're not real. Having that in mind, Black widow is still one of the best superhero characters in the Marvel universe

    • @blueorangeblossom
      @blueorangeblossom 2 роки тому +3

      @Alex T I enjoy movies, I like movies that show actual violence, like the movie 300 or Gladiator, and I actually read comic books like Wonder Woman growing up, however as someone who lifts weights and exercises, now I’m no gymnast… but someone defying gravity too many times like thousands of feet in the air just annoys me…it’s also the PC vibes, bad CGI and bad writing. She hulk was one of my favorite characters, so was wonder woman but I just get bored during highly choreographed fight scenes with no investment in character development and when they are it’s some feminist bullcrap, the believability also takes a hit when there are no consequences to violence, none. Also the athleticism of the female leads is not fully developed, their training or character development is not developed…and seeing the competition at Lesbos in Wonder Woman just irritated me. The muscle and athleticism of any normal male character is more than that of a woman, they have more muscle, can move faster, throw punches harder etc. what these movies do is make a mockery of strong female leads, I think for kids it’s fine…a movie like GI Jane was good bc she believably gets the tar beat out of her at the end. There is a reason why women in combat is only recent, they had to lower the military standards for female in drills, and even recently I saw a boot camp video of a woman in the military almost collapsing after a 12 mile run, I trained and ran for a marathon when I was younger, and I don’t appreciate these female leads who are either CGI muscled or are a size two with no muscle..and even a boob job at times. The way they move and fight is excessive and just not believable, they lack cohesive development in character and storyline. They aren’t even good as eye candy such as movies like the fifth element, mila jovovich actually gets dirty in that movie and almost dies and it’s not even based in real life, it’s science fiction. I don’t think it’s healthy to watch that much violence, but it makes a better movie…I liked wolverine but he is obviously portraying real pain and overcome real seeming obstacles. If someone is jumping a thousand feet into the air I want them not to turn into CGI so obviously. Idk I guess I just don’t want to feel patronized by mindless storylines that veer into woke ideologies…I was mad at how they portrayed wonder woman and she hulk, these movies destroyed the characters, they were huge disappointments for me. Fine for kids,but I find it boring and it actually insults the original characters, visually even the costumes were disappointing…I don’t watch many of these anymore bc I can’t stand the fake effects used to quickly with no consequences, even in Star Wars the original movies Luke gets his hand cut off, and darth Vader clearly is living as a kind of cyborg that seems real, they are actually fearful or careful around things such as gravity. one of the keys of storytelling even in myth, such as fairytales are the obstacles they overcome, sometimes extremely hard circumstances.

      @@nottodayimbusy7146 for me it just highlighted the fact that I was not invincible, and I as a woman who intervened to protect someone else, know what it’s like to be punched in the face, and real life violence has consequences. Super heroes are of course super heroes, but good characters should know what real physical pain is like, they should endure hardship. Good superheroes are supposed to be identifiable to a target audience, that’s why little kids want to be Spider-Man or Superman. I don’t want to be wonder woman or she hulk or cat woman I wouldnt be caught dead on Halloween dressed like any of these except for maybe the original hokey Wonder Woman. At least it has campy so bad it’s good vibes…Movies already make it seem as if you are shot you get right back up…that’s not what real life is like, when you get shot you fall immediately, even with a stun gun you fall unless you are on flacca. Idk after a while I just get weary of having my intelligence insulted and I don’t care about the fight scenes, I know the female lead will get right back up after being punched a thousand times. They don’t even move right, I studied kinesiology in college and taught life drawing at the university, I took film criticism…I can enjoy stupid movies if there are crucial elements either the graphics, storyline or believable elements. I even like camp. But if it’s lacking on so many,levels, unless it’s for little kids, I just don’t waste my time anymore. I also feel like I’m being brainwashed by stupidity, so now I avoid them until reviews come out, I would rather keep the original comic book characters intact in my mind…similar to hearing an amazing song then seeing a horrible video, I kinda felt this way when I heard the weekend and then watched the music video, it changes the song and the original concept sometimes for the worse and you will never get that original enjoyment again…it’s been tarnished or ruined.

    I disagree with you about the Hulk. It's a Jungian concept. Bruce Banner is a highly intelligent, passive nerd. Living within him is the evil monster that he denies exists. When the monster is unleashed, he cannot control it because he continues to try to get rid of it. It's only once he acknowledged the existence of the evil within himself was he able to take control of the monster and unleash it on his own terms. This is the Jungian shadow. It's the warrior in the garden. It's the same concept that Jordan Peterson talks about...except the "She Hulk". I don't know what the hell that is.
