This arc is partially about Luffy's growth as a leader. His qualities as a leader will be tested and he'll be stepping up as the captain of the Strawhats.
You probably realized by now that One Piece is not the typical anime where the characters, just because emotionally attached, are gonna make wierd miracles to fix an unfixable ship just because its the main characters, but impress us taking another direction. In that sense, One Piece is much more realistic.

There’s definitely a difference between confidence and foolishness, because even claiming “I’m confident the ship will go farther!” can itself only go so far.
I think them losing the 200M Beli and her facing Enel tells every reason why she's what she is. She's greedy, yes, but she's only greedy because she cares about her friends/families, she's afraid of losing them just because of money. When facing Enel, since going along with Enel would mean leaving her friends behind, she have no reason to be greedy for money. With Usopp losing money to the Franky Family, she says not to worry about the money because she cares about Usopp feelings although deep down she still care about the money because she knew she won't lose her friends and the money is what will keep them safe (to buy new ship because sailing in the Merry would be like suicide).
Tell Erza they weren't worried about Usopp because Usopp said he was gonna go check some cannons,. Nami and Luffy just asummed Usopp was just exploring the shipyard. Erza is just hating on Nami for nothing, Nami told Usopp to his face she didn't care about the money.

I see *Luffy* as a complex characther cuz in important moments like this, he looks like a completely different person, is really interesting how his mindset works towards the adversity. About *Ussop* I think he's the one who most feel about the *Merry* situation, beyond everything that just happens to him now *(I know you guys are ahead on patreon so you know about the other thing too)* this turn of events and how *Oda* wrote that is in a entire different level, when you're able to see the entire picture afterwards, u can't say that any of them was wrong here, it was a "perfect" mess up situation that *Oda* gave us, letting us just suffering the entire time 😅😂 everything happens so fast. Lol *Erza* really don't like *Nami* lmao
This is one of those Arc where every character get shining moment and I just love this type of arcs where didn't feel like any character getting sideline just cuz they are not protegnist.

Luffy would risk all his friend life if he is selfish and choose to go on the ship anyway this is what he understand there after seing usopp . If it was only him ok but he is the leader . He is the one that choose and everyone follow . If he had no crew he probably would have chose the merry.
i hate it when people say that it's " anime time " but... what yaboy said was right about anime time. to explain the scene that just happened... Usopp noticed the money gone a little too late. when he noticed it was gone, it was way more than a few seconds. that would explain how the guy was so far off. it didn't just happened. it most likely happened while they were talking to Iceberg. which was more than a minute.
Nami likes money but when it comes down to it she will give it all up to protect her friends, she did this with Enel too. Money isnt all what Nami is about.

@@aoinguin her view on money is a necessity for survival not as just an indulgence is what your saying and I agree. She values her friends more than she does money because without having them to spare it with, money is pointless to her.

Let me put it this way, if she cared about the money more than her friends, then wouldn’t one think she would have sold out her friends to the Government to collect those big bounties a long time ago?
38:25 No. I am not going to say that. Erza going for Nami like this isnt fair, cuz she's had beef with Nami for a long time now especially with how she sabotaged Zoro in the G8 arc. Also if she wasnt holding onto her case $100k, it'd be in the hands of the Franky Family too so she did her part. I'm more annoyed at Luffy at times like this. But Luffy was still acting as Luffy usually does, running up & down left & right across the whole of Dock 1, instead of staying with Ussop and the money. Even when he got the cases back he didnt say how light they were, but at that point Ussop was either getting beaten or already unconscious. I always love watching reactions to OP cuz I get to see ppl go thru the experience and just the tiny details that can only be picked up on rewatch/reread, like Kalifa said to Iceberg after the WG officials left.
One thing I'll say in defense of Nami is that the anime (compared to the manga) plays up her greediness and violence more than the manga and makes her genuinely unreasonable at times. It does this with Sanji's perviness, and Usopp's cowardice & lying as well. Basically the characters are all less likable in the anime because their flaws are more exaggerated. Nami will choose her friends' safety over money every time.

For some real world perspective on money in one piece, we probably can equate $100 million to about $1 million cash, give or take. Therefore, Luffy is worth approx $1 million, and at one point they were in possession of $3 million dollars!
