A lot of stuff in this just isn't explained. How to make the sponge cake is entirely skipped. If the cake is 6 inches tall then I guess the "5 inch, 6 inch high" size makes sense, it looks bigger, but that might just be a camera thing. All the spong cake is carved to the shape of the mushroom, but it's not shown, I would have liked to have seen the full sponge cake being cut and shaped. It's not explained what the chocolate brushed up from the base is, does any melted chocolate work for the purpose? Same deal with the white chocolate used for the underside of the cap. I don't know what the red cap is made out of, I'd guess red buttercream just because it wasn't introduced as a new ingredient, but that is a VERY deep red that I don't typically see available, so I'd like further explanation on it. The chocolate "dirt" at the end also isn't mentioned, not sure where exactly I'd get chocolate of that texture either. Basically, this is a tutorial for people who already have pretty decent knowledge of how to make cakes so it doesn't explain basic things that beginners might not know. I'm gonna try and make it for my friend, but I think it's gonna take some trial and error.
I agree, I'd love to know more. Especially how the red icing is made. I'm attempting this cake today but have opted for fondant ready to roll icing as its the reddest shade of icing I could get! How did your attempt go?
@@hevjayne5403 It went pretty good, though mine ended up being much thicker at the base. I found some red food dye that actually did make the vanilla buttercream as red as in the video.I didn't know what to do for the dirt, so instead I just grated a chocolate bar, I think it actually looks better. It wasn't nearly as easy to smooth out the buttercream or brush the chocolate up the sides or add texture to the white undercap, so I couldn't get that perfect. I made it for a friend as a present because she's really into the aesthetic of mushrooms and she loved it.
Absolutely magical cake! Will try to make it for my girl's 5th birthday, she loves mushrooms
