    I had the shareware version of this as a child. This game blew open my mind! It introduced so many new concepts to me, from playing in 3D environment to the sandbox feeling it gave you, hell I even discovered some secrets like flying behind you at the start of some missions to get a cache of bunkers at the beginning. Hell was even impressed to realize I could fly high into the sky! 😅

      @@Networkengie I ALSO owned Descent and the Journeyman Project. I can't call Journeyman good lol as it took me 20+ years of aging to watch a UA-cam video of how to EXACTLY navigate its puzzles BUT they all hold GREAT nostalgia for me man! Thanks for bringing up a positive memory.

    People may not understand but these graphics at this speed were absolutely mind-blowing back in 1995. You needed a good 486DX2 to take the most out of it, though, but if you had one, then this was better than even some games that were on the (soon to be dead) arcade game parlors of the time.

As a Star Wars fan, it was a great alternative to the aging X-Wing and Tie Fighter games ( it would meet its match with the 3rd installment, X-Wings Vs. Tie Fighters, though ).

    I feel like this game needs a remake or a proper sequel! The fact that you destroyed the mainframe computer and not the mad man behind it, on top of the mystery of the bonus stage leaves a lot of potential for a twisted but amazing follow-up. One where you must stop the parasitic infestation of an unknown body tissue spreading across the galaxy.
    If not a sequel, then definitely a remake to shed new life into this game that deserved better.

    I would've liked to see a proper sequel that adds to the game's story. One that explores even more about the main antagonist and the mysteries behind the infestation codenamed: Unknown Body. But instead they went to Microsoft to make games for Windows and make two successors that are lore wise: very different games. I mean, those games were good and all, but I still would've like to see more of Terminal Velocity. Even a remake by 3D Realms would be nice. But I suppose you can't have everything...

    I remember this game, played the first level a lot. As you can see the enemies are continually generated, they keep spawning at a distance from you, so you can't really "clear the stage".
    This game was related to another virtually identical game called Microsoft Fury 3. I don't know which one was the original and which one was the ripoff, though, but the main difference between TV and Fury 3 is that TV ran in DOS whereas Fury 3 ran in Win95 or Win98. Other than that, I only remember the Fury 3 soundtrack was different but equally distinctive and the boss in the demo version of it was a giant cobra.

    • @DavideGendo
      @DavideGendo 2 роки тому

      Fury3 was developed by the same people: same engine, same planet and enemy unit intros, same fonts... as they released only a few months apart, they are basically two versions of a game developed for two different publishers. Neither is a ripoff of the other, if anything we may call them "brothers".
      I can only guess the devs got in touch with both Apogee and Microsoft while shopping their graphics engine around (it was quite impressive for the time on PCs), and ended up being hired by both.
