In this homage to the Film Noir Genre, we follow an atypical detective writing a report for his latest investigation, which turns into a reflection on what the life of a detective entails...and the extents he goes to towards maintaining his sanity.
I've been working on this film for a while. I've gone through so many rewrites and drafts before settling on this version. I've debated the aesthetic and direction, the actors and their strengths, and the intent of my film for a while. I'm so happy it has all finally paid off in glorious fashion. I hope you end the new year looking at my biggest film yet. I hope you all enjoy my subversive and introspective take on one of my favorite movie genres.
Thank you to those who helped me (and bared with my incompetence) for this production. These names include:
Breandan Kissane - / @breandank3026
Sepehr Salehi - / @sepehrsalehitopquality
And of course thank you to all who taught me how to even do this. This wouldn't be close to achievable without all of your help.
See you all next time, and enjoy the show!
RayO1, signing off.
Music Used: • A Calm But Suspenseful...
P.S. Yes, I know you can see the guy looking at the freaking shot list for the movie, but just give me this one thing, please?
Both your video and your comment gave this video a special comfort 🥲🥺❤️
Bro, I saw you comment on the song, this is amazing!
i came from the music's link, i can tell already this is good. Keep it up!
I to came from the song as I was looking for one.. you did an incredible job on this..I read the description and going with your gut always pays off well done
Now this
This is what I call underrated
10/10 good job mate
Congrats on shooting this, there are things I really liked, and things 'I wished' you would of done.
The cinematography is on point. The lighting def gives off that film noir style. Only thing I thought after watching it, was 'Why didn't they just make it black and white? The contrast is great...' but I figured you didn't want to be too cliche?
Another thing I noticed. When the main character is at the desk, is he actually reading his lines from the screenplay on screen? The documents he had looked very similar to a script...this caught my attention and kind of distracted me from your movie.
Also, I wish something would of happened, since it didn't, it comes off like a scene that belongs to something bigger.
Overall, keep it up, I think you're really on to something.
Thank you so much for the glowing review! I'm happy for the praises and for the constructive criticism you've offered me! Thank you again for all the points of advice.
Thank you for the points about my cinematography. I know it's traditional for film-noir to be b&w, but I wanted to take more stylistic inspiration from neo-noir. It's like film noir, but with higher contrasts, deeper aesthetics...and color. It's a style you may have seen in stuff like Blade Runner, Minority Report, Death Note, or even Tron. I'm very proud of how it turned out.
Also...yeah...he's not reading lines from the script, that's actually the script from another movie that I was directing on the same day. I kinda forgot to make proper paper props, and it was distracting for me when I realized "oh god, the shotlist for that other movie is VISIBLE". I hope it didn't pull you out completely, though.
Thank you for pointing out the anti-climatic nature of the ending. I more or less ran with it based on my runtime restrictions, like you would want to know more, but the truth is that behind that closet door is meant to be a bloodstained trenchcoat, which is meant to signify that (spoilers) he was the killer the whole time. I do wish I could convey that much more than already, but I've grown fond of the cliffhanger ending. I may not be a fan of the mystery box technique, but for noir movies such as this one, I though it was okay. Not great, but just okay.
But thank you again for the kind words and advice. I'll keep it in mind for my next film!
In the meantime, check out my other short films of lesser quality!
THIS IS SO GOOD

Did you ever continue this story?
