    I bought one of those lights. And apparently used it wrong. Explains a lot.

    Future vid ideas:
    Your usual displacements and why
    Bottom end components and why
    In house balancing?
    Typical compression ratio with CA91 and Bergman cooling
    Dizzy timing curve vs SVDA and part throttle driveability
    Head/cam/valvetrain packages vs performance/reliability/cost
    Why always straight cut cam gears? :)
    Preferred sealants, break in lube, oil.
    Various other parts preferences and why: Oil pump, sump, filter, cooler
    Ever do oil squirters?
    Awesome channel 👏👏

      Thank you for your suggestions, definitely something we are working on, we are really just a small family operated business. Our videos were originally posted for customers so that they had a visual documentation of their build. Parts details and set up specs would only come on an invoice with engine purchase. Over the years our social media has grown even larger than us, this is definitely a good thing, but with only a few of us here, we stay super busy in the shop but I do believe that more informative video content would help us with faster replies as we could direct inquires to specific videos that pertain to a lot of questions that we receive on a daily.
      Anyway, thanks again for your suggestions, well noted and hope to get some new video content out soon.
      John

      @@powerhausvw yeah right on. The angle on the info is probably less about specifics than the general results down the road. Like where are the big trade offs between power and longevity. Love the engines and channel 👏👏

      Thank you for checking out our UA-cam page, we used to do a lot of repairs and installs but have not had any mechanics the last few years so only doing engine builds at the moment, we plan to do some custom builds again at some point but right now we're a bit backed up with engine orders.

      nothing with great detail as of yet, we've just been too busy but is something that is on our list to do one of these days. Here's a lapse time video we did a while back

    Been following you guys for years and would love to tour the shop this summer. I really appreciate the attention to detail you guys do in your builds and especially keeping the Bernie Bergmann legacy alive.
    I'm sure you get asked to reveal all your secrets in a video all the time. But for us novice builders, it would be nice to see a video dedicated to the practices and procedures that you do.
    The man hours put into those engines probably doesn't translate at all. Maybe a build detail video describing how long it takes to build, tune, test. It would help people grasp the reality of the custom work you do.
    Keep up the good work, some of us watching care way more than just "Whats the price"

      Thank you we appreciate all the support, so many people sending praise our way from all over the world, I would’ve never thought we’d receive this kind of attention working on these old VW’s, we’re gonna try and be a bit more active on our social media platforms, just super slammed right now with engine builds so it’s a tough balance.

    • @powerhausvw
      @powerhausvw  2 роки тому +1

      We get our heads from EMPI, they do a specific set up just for us but over the last couple years, they have upgraded there cnc machines, brought in some very experienced VW cylinder head guys and have raised the standards on an off the shelf cylinder head.
      Here is one of their latest videos on cylinder heads.

    Do you guys have to do any internal modifications to the Bergmann fans?

    • @powerhausvw
      @powerhausvw  2 роки тому +2

      not for the cooling but we do a lot of trimming and fitting in order to make them fit tight to the aluminum case that has added material in different areas.

    Are all your builds all new parts or can you also use some of customers parts

    • @powerhausvw
      @powerhausvw  Рік тому

      We use all new parts on our builds now days, not a big fan of rebuilt, the old German parts are just too fatigue and we've had the best success with all new aftermarket parts.

    What exhaust is that on the first engine in this video?

  • @peterroberts652

    How come you crank the engine for oil pressure with the plugs and rockers on ?
    I've was taught and hence have always done it with the plugs out and rockers backed off so as to avoid wiping the cam lube off during oil pressure cranking .
    The cam is only lubricated by splash overflow from the con rod bearings so there is no oil on the cam till you achive oil pressure .
    The engine spins over faster with the plugs and rockers off and there is no compression load on the bearings with the plugs out .
    I understand modern assembly lubes are very good but always like the plugs and rockers off for extra protection.
    Also , do you pre oil the pushrods ?
    I always use a squirty oil can to pump each pushrod full of oil to minimise the lag in oil getting to the rocker gear .
    Also , do you pre lube all the valve springs ?
    Ater spinning for pressure i re fit the rockers then bathe the springs and rocker to lash cap area with the squirty oil can and then pop the covers back on .
    Beautiful shop and great videos

      Just kinda of the way Jerry & I been doing it for about 30 years now, we’ve never had a flat cam & any of our engines that we’ve taken back apart years later, we’ve never seen or had any bearing problems

    • @peterroberts652
      @peterroberts652 2 роки тому

      @@powerhausvw
      Yeah the modern assembly lubes are good enough to protect the parts nowadays
      It was just the way i was taught
      If it's worked all those years with no problems , stick with it .
      I've just had a cam lobe start to go on a bench run of a 1955 with an FK8 and the CB 3 piece lifters .
      Not had a cam do that for 25 years
      No idea why , checked everything no obvious reason .
      So even being super cautious like i am , something has still gone wrong somewhere.
      Great videos , keep up the good work . Very inspirational.

      @@powerhausvw That's what I figured. I have thought about doing a Procharged engine myself, as I like the idea of having a smoother torque curve compared to turbos. Less heat transfer into the intake charge too, since there is no "exhaust side" to deal with, that will increase intake charge temps even more. Of course, you compress the air, it's going to get hotter, but it's not as bad. Looking forward to seeing more on this combination, and how you guys like it.
