looked like new PVC on both sides of the stupid cast iron trap. gee why did all the crud get stuck mainly at the trap and just ahead of it? cold spot with choked flow!
Looks like Junior is going to have his hands full cleaning up his bachelor pad in Mom's basement. He's going to need more than a vacuum to clean up that mess. He'll have that trap clogged up in no time flat with the amount of soap needed to decontaminate the area. 🤣🤣

Might be a combination of hard water and too much powdered laundry detergent like: Foca; Ariel; Roma.
A good habit would be cleaning the house side of the trap every month,

Great unblock Donald. These basement apartments are not ideal to live in when a plumbing blockage occurs. Not good for the laminate floor to get sewer soaked.

Not gonna lie....that is one of the weirdest floor drain spots i have seen so far. Right in the middle of the nice wood floors. Also THAT MUCH soap scum built up over 2 years?! HOW THE HELL DID STUFF PASS THROUGH THAT?!!

What builds up soapscum to that level where it becomes a mass big enough to block pipes? Is it certain cleaning products used, or what?
The last person couldn't bring in a big machine due to the lack of clearance and used a flush bag in all of the drains to clear the last clog and most likely just popped a small hole big enough that the water went down for the moment 😳 😕 🤦♂️

It looks like the buildup was caused by slight back pitch where plastic meets cast iron before the trap. Nice work!

Does anyone know what's the purpose of that trap, and do you need them? Is this an old technology that was needed at the time? Sinks, tubs, and toilets have their own traps, and here in NJ, we don't have them.
The trap is Code in NY it prevents gas and bugs/rodents from coming back into the house, although each drain, sink, etc. has their own as well.
Easy fix to remove that trap and just add a straight piece

Grease is the word
Pretty much boils down to the same thing, but grease has a more orangey color and pungent smell to it, as to soap scum which is more white colored without a scent.

Why would they put PVC on both ends but leave the original trap? Is it code that the trap cannot be pvc?
A CI no hub house fits better than trying to make one out of PVC fittings and needing short pieces of PVC pipe on the house and street side of the trap.
I've seen PVC traps in the past, so I doubt it
@@NYDRAINS For this installation there was not a lot of room for a PVC house trap but it would work in most installations and is a lot cheaper than a no hub CI house trap too.

That's extremely heavy buildup of soap scum, is this from using powder washing detergent? I would think liquid soaps and detergents wouldn't do this as bad, but I don't know.
using soap powder and cold water will do that.
