She's SO good in this. I knew what I was getting into with the movie's premise but I had no idea its star was going to be so magnetic onscreen. The consistent "I'm so done with this crap" anger was, well, delightful but the internalized trauma simmering beneath the surface was captivating.
@@michaelgonzales609she plays someone on the spectrum in Elementary. And I believe another show too. Not sure about actually being on the spectrum but she’s great.
6:46 love the delivery of her saying “no” u can tell she was about to go on a full lecture about gender equality, only to get plugged in the skull half a second later.
Also the fact she tries to beg for mercy after missing....but still calls her snowball. And then she could've just let her leave but HAD to call her a hick.
More like she's wondering why she's being asked that the moment before her death. And the fact that her killer is actually asking her that from an old dude that thinks it's a valid reason for her to be given mercy. The idea of her being given mercy seems more ridiculous than a response.
Really glad to see all these positive comments now after the film was kneejerk-buried when it came out. It stays with you and was brave enough to tackle this subject without retreating into some platitudes. Quite an achievement when we agree on so little else.
That moment of defiant nihilism tries to sound edgy, but it really shows there really is no motivation other than projections and assumptions becoming internalized, and the Hunters are too far down the group conformation bias rabbit hole to see it even at their end.
I remember watching this film with my parents and when the old guy pulled out the magazine and grinned, I immediately said 'there'll be one still in the chamber'. Sure enough, there was, and my mother turned to me and said 'only you would know that' 😂
This was such a fun movie, I don't get why it was deemed so controversial. By the time I saw it here in the UK the posters were saying the most controversial movie of the year .
It was confrontational because Republican/Conservatives thought it was about killing them, but then it turned out it wasn't and they had to try to back pedal
Because it's making fun of US political parties, and Trump mentioned that there was a movie making fun of republicans, so Universal removed the film for some time, then it got released.
it's a spectacular action movie. Gilpin's character is so unpredictable it's refreshing. I think the weird layer of satire might be off-putting if taken too literally. At the core, it's a movie mocking R/W conspiracy nightmares about the "Liberal Elite" and serves up a wonderful revenge fantasy against those tropes.
The short version is because Trump fans thought the movie was going to be about rich Democrats hunting Republicans for sport. I suppose *maybe* you could make the case that the hunted could be seen as a stand-in for specifically believers in the QAnon conspiricay theory, who do tend to be Republicans. Bit of a stretch but it can be done.
Betty totally slayed in this role. I love all her little actions, expressions, she has action genre going for her. I could believe she's a badass. I hope they get her back for more action shows.
OMG are you all crazy lol... the more over the top the sequels got the better they were haahah sorry I am just such a die hard John Wick. Ya'll are crazy 🤪
This just hit my recommended and I am actually watching the movie right now. Probably my 4th time watching it. It’s pretty awesome! Betty is brilliant! The way she played the part was fantastic. She was a bad ass but funny as all get out. She played it straight but she made me laugh so many times. The movie was brutal but funny. The writing was great. Well done.
I love how she's low-key irritated the entire time, leaving it to all the other actors to go big with their performances. It perfectly aligns with the fact that she is a long-suffering public servant, the type you see at the post office or the DMV quietly tolerating people yelling at them for things beyond their control. She totally makes the movie for me.
I mean, she is an acclaimed actor already but this movie? Damn Betty! She’s the action star the industry needs. Such an underrated movie but so worth the watch.
Having wrestled 6 years, I am never one to have ever engaged with spectating "professional" wrestling. Unfortunately, literally - real wrestling's apex is Olympic. Any other kind is showmanship, staged gymnastics full contact Kung Fu manchu ism. So the first ever I saw of Betty Gilpin was here in The Hunt. I cannot imagine any other actor starring here. She absolutely nailed it like no other possibly could. She carried the movie thoroughly, completely, and captured me from the first frame in which she appeared.
You can now watch Betty Gilpin bring her unique acting ability to "Mrs. Davis", where she plays Sister Simone, a nun who is tasked by a world-dominant artificial intelligence to find the Holy Grail.
Good God no. A sequel would be awful. I can't even imagine a pitch for a sequel that would find the same sort of balance or avoid invalidating the plot of the first movie.
PLEASE we must have more Gilpin in our lives!! This film would not have made it without her - I absolutely love the way she’s portrayed badassery in everything she’s done. Can’t wait to see what the future brings… I’d love love loooooooooooove to see her kick more ass like this
I just found one thing weird. She pulled away his hands as if she was 10 times stronger than him. I mean I know there are osme tricks to loosen such a grip but she didn't really use any.
It was a full force thumb twist, all about leverage, doesn't need that much strength, especially if she's trained in BJJ or Wing Chung.. It would have been more realistic if the guy had yelled though, because no matter how strong you are, it's horrendously painful. Alan Ritchson as Reacher uses the same technique fairly often.
Betty Gilpin was great in this film. She could have been the hero in that Forever War movie instead of Chris Pratt. Instead she got stuck in a bit part playing his Wife. She is far more Ruthless than Pratt could even dream about being. I expect to see Betty in more action flicks over those little delicate SnowFlakes that they keep hiring for action roles. Mind you, Hillary Swank comes out a close second in The Hunt. Never seen her do a role like this. She was great as well. Both these girls looked amazing.
