  • Another lap trying hard, but slow traffic due to a broken down car prevent from a clean run.
Again, lots of action, and a dicey moment trying to go flat out over Wippermann's kerbs.
Next lap is going to be something else, when the track will finally be clear, but wil it be enough...? What do you say, will we make #Under9?
    Car specs:
    Drivetrain:
    Bone stock engine.
ZW30 gearbox and Torsen LSD. It has different ratios: taller final, hence why I don't need to shift into 5th, and a closer 1st and 2nd in comparison with the original gearbox.
    Suspension:
    RS*R Ti2000 springs
    KYB Excel-g dampers
    Whiteline rear sway bar
    Poliurethane bushings
    Tires:
F:195/50R15 Advan AD08RS (new compound to comply with the new EU efficiency ruling). 1.8bar
R:205/50R15 Advan AD08R. 2.3bar (raised the pressure on the rear slightly 0,2bar compared to the first day, to get a bit of rotation in some areas and worked very nicely)
    Brakes:
Bone stock replacement parts (rotors, pads and DOT4 fluid). Not even braided brake lines. This setup had been ok at the track until arriving at the Nurburgring. In the previous tracks I've driven the car the speed was never this high, but here this cheap setup was really struggling and had to manage them every lap at the harder braking areas. I wish I had my Winmax pads, as I did on my 86.
    Alignment:
    F: 6deg caster, -1,6ish deg camber, 0.05ish toe in.
    R: - 1,2ish deg camber, 0.15ish toe in.
    Weight:
Measured 2500lbs/1100kg with me in it and a full tank. Subtract the weight of the spare wheel, jack and toolset which I've removed for the track.

i wonder, if you had the same 20valve as in the ae86 what would be faster around the ring, considering the wildly different natures of the cars. but greate driving, really enjoyable and on toes to watch.

Thanl you so much. I think it's a very interesting topic that a few wonder about.
In my mind, at the level of performance that the stock engine is able to reach, the MR2 might seem more capable... But at the speeds the 20v would be able to make it go, I wonder if the more predictable nature at the absolute limit of the 86 as opposed to the MR2, which demands absolutely perfect timing and exquisite inputs to not unsettle it when going really fast, might play against it to make the most of its capabilities.
The 86, not only for its more ancient suspension design, but also due to its short stroke and stiffer setup, is a less refined experience and is overall more playful, with the back end sticking out as soon as you press the throttle, and you basically steer with the throttle out of corners.
They definitely both bring opposite elements of driving into the game, which is why I love driving both and growing as a more complete driver from what each teach you.

@@YoShImUrA53 i can definitely see the mr2 becoming increasingly more of a handful when speeds increase and maybe even the need to make it more prone to understeer with wider rear tires and a more forgiving rear suspension setup to get back some predictability, but might also make it less responsive and ruining what it's originally known for. as you say the live rear axle on the 86 is not as refined but predictable and easy to handle, it's a fun thought to play with as they are so different but of the same age and brand. :)
One day i will get my ass down south to the ring and drive it when my project is done, but i guess it's not in 2020 sadly... things take time.. (TTT)

@@YoShImUrA53 Following on this subject... The MR2 race drivers in the UK sometimes detach the rear roll bar on circuits like Castle Combe where it's very bumpy. I don't know if it would help at the ring though!
