Very nice which is a huge understatement on my part. After all of these years of playing I’ve finally decided on this piece to add thanks to the way you play it.
Usually, I can get a piece memorized in a couple of months. Another couple of months to get the bugs out. Another couple of months to dial in the muscle memory and the last couple of months to dial in the period feel of what the artist was thinking when written. Crap. I think I’ll just keep listening to yours and pretend lol.
Sorry for this lengthy reply: I have listened to Beethoven for years among many others) and growing up, several family members played the piano which I regretfully never picked up. I started with the guitar, an old hand me down Selmer when I was about 12. I started this piece the night I signed up on your page. I had also years ago watched Immortal Beloved but never really got it on the current level (much older now lol) so, for about 4-5 days now I have been researching him, his life, his love (Josephine?). Very sad during that period which now makes total sense. I always knew it was a melancholy piece. The higher treble notes(theme) are her I’m guessing. So, it’s very hard now learning the piece and at the same time knowing the emotion / feeling when he wrote it. That was the most somber period of his life. I wish I had not done the research first. I actually teared up during the end of the second measure while playing it. Knowing what I know now and listening to several pianist play the piece, all of the measures make sense. Which is for who and the time lineage for each section. I am now emotionally scared from this(in a good way) and it is all your fault. Thanks so much.
Rob, I know this is an older video now, but it’s one of your most impressive. The feel is spot on, and that’s hard to nail considering this is a piano piece. Sir, I don’t usually trouble you with requests-but I’d love to hear your full bust-out on the 3rd movement of this piece…there’s not many guitar versions around-I’d love to hear your take on it.
For me this is such a 'Delicate' piece of music and yet it has such a strength & depth beneath that seeming delicacy and all those qualities come out so beautifully when you play it. Brilliant!. 👏👏🤙🤙
Your professional playing with emotion. Very enjoyable. Never get tired of listening. Thanks Professor Robert for teaching us with patient and kindness.
Well, after about a year of trying to learn this, I can play it at, maybe, half that speed (though not quite as well). Maybe after another six months of practice I can try to keep up.
@@RobertLunn Yeah, it's a deceptively complex and remarkably elegant piece. It's really made me appreciate Beethoven far more than I ever could have just from listening to his music. I admit, when I first started learning it, I was lulled by the hypnotic triplets into thinking it wouldn't be that difficult, and it doesn't start out all that hard either-- A minor to C with a few jumps in the middle... how hard can it be? Then I went a little further and... Oh! that's not easy at all. It was a good deal beyond my skill level when I started but, the more I tried learning it, the more I loved it. It's really inspired me to practice day and night for months so that I can play it all the way through now (though I'm a long way from playing it really well).
@@davidbelk46 Well that is good because we need pieces that we love to inspire us to practice. It is a very beautiful piece of music and the way he constructed it, with the modulations, is so beautiful!
Thank you! It is a spruce. Cordoba. I used two microphones, both were about 4 feet away which is a little farther than usual. I just didn’t want them in camera view
Amazing I've played since 1987. Mostly metal music but have a very serious love for classical especially Beethoven. I've been learning Fur Elise on guitar and it is coming along. It will be awhile until I have your ability to express the emotions of the music rather than just hitting the correct notes. Any advice on strings? Or tips on techniques? I'm not asking for lessons over the web lol... just tips on strings IE High tenssion or whatever
I am glad to hear that! I prefer high tension strings. I use D'addario. Explore the style. If you have been playing guitar that long I would look at a piece like Spanish Romance. Hope this helps!
I am glad Ave Maria is going well! I have two Rode NT1A mics. I record the audio and video separately. Lately I have been using Pro Tools for the audio. I use final Cut to combine the audio/video
I love how strong you play this. I was looking for someone who plays it like you. AMAZING
