Thank so much. I think that’s why I love your channel sooo much because you are never pushy or sale-oriented in your channel. Tip one was awesome! I want to add one tip to the list which is prayer. When I am overwhelmed by all the choices and possibilities for curriculum and extracurricular activities, stopping and just asking the Lord what HE wants for our family is so reassuring and waiting for the peace to come and His leading is so key!!!

Great tips Abby! I use the library and shop at used curriculum sales and cycling through curriculum over again digging deeper each time through. My problem is buying games we love them for schooling!

The printing thing really depends. I have a laser printer and it’s so cheap to print. A laser printer is the best investment!

This video was bomb!! :) Such helpful tips. 1 and 3 were especially good reminders! Thank you for putting this together. What are some resources you would direct me towards in finding used curriculum?

All of these tips are totally spot on ! This year while planning for the upcoming school year I decided to shop my house and take inventory of what I actually have, apparently I over bought last year at convention and had apologia science that we neve used, but wanted to buy masterbooks science. We are going to use what we have, and it will save $100. Even though I would rather buy new stuff, what we have will work.
Love the idea of doing 1/2 and 1/2 science with history. Using that idea !

I feel like I’ve gone a little crazy with buying *all the things* since we started homeschooling. We’re going to be starting our third year as a homeschool family and I really want to set a budget while I’m still only technically schooling one child. I love the idea of pulling money out each week and putting that aside. One of the ways I’ve saved on costs of field trips is by joining a local homeschool field trip group. It’s free to join and they do 10 field trips a month. I can do really fun things that we probably wouldn’t pay for normally because the group rate is cheap! I was hoping we would make new friends but that hasn’t happened just yet, but we’ve gone to the Symphony, to ICE, etc for very little cost.

I too will only have 1 student this year. I do not stick to a budget. But I just opened a separate account to set money aside. Also, I plan to stick to my choices all year ... no switching in the middle of the school year.

Also, becoming a member at certain gardens and museums you also get free access to other gardens or museums! And I have found when I have some bulk printing it is cheaper to use Office Depot with my CC discount than it is to spend so much on ink.

Yes!! to block scheduling history one semester and science the other to save money and time! And nature study & science!

Thanks for sharing these tips! I found that I learn a little more with each passing year. Our budget has dropped dramatically in 7 years compared to my first few years when I thought I needed everything! I love to buy used and also have been know to do homeschool fundraisers for curriculim! I actually did a video on that exact topic! Thanks for sharing, friend! 💜

Thanks for such detailed and honest explanations. Keeping ourselves accountable is so important [target is no joke ;-)] this was very helpful for a beginning homeschool mom that is in the research for purchasing stage. Excited to continue gleaning information from you! Teach on, fellow Floridian!

I need to start stashing cash away for curriculum buying season. I can get so overwhelmed sometimes looking at all the options and my school-loving heart just wants to purchase ALL THE BOOKS! lol!

Tip- join a homeschool group that gets the same discounts as the school does. My homeschool group, I found in Meet Up just does fun and educational field trips. One example of a discount. Last year we saw a Shakespeare play for $18 a person. If we would have gone as a family, it would have cost me $150 a person.

These are great tips! I have slowly learned most of these tips on my own through many failings 😂 I still need to work on the not watching a video or blog post or even Instagram posts because I always feel I “need” that thing. 🙃

Somehow this gave me permission to drop my original plan of using multiple science unit studies from a popular company. I wasn't thrilled with the latest release I had been waiting on before ordering, because of all the necessary items I had to gather and it seemed short for the price. I don't have to do it!

I really wish we could get our tax dollars back for the children we homeschool. Where does that money go?!
