Experiments! Looks like your on the fence between 8 or 9 inch props . Check out master airscrew . They have 8.5 inch props ! Also trying 5s . I find 8 in burns a lot of amps but 9 inch does what happened to you . When you throttle down you can't take off flying with big battery!
I'm trying 5 s with sunnysky 2212_980kv and 9 inch prop . Not enough power to take off with 4s , motor burns with 5s ! If you know of a motor this size , low kv that can take 5s let us know !
Also my setup is on ar900 classic wing . Thanks and keep touching on these topics !

Hi Ron I think I havce settled on the 8x4.5 props on 4S with the Sunnysky 2216 1400Kv motor, it gives me good performance for proximity and reasonable flight times if I am not over heavy on the throttle too often. I am using the APC 8x4.5 multirotor props and Aeronaut Cam Carbon Light.
I am building another AR Pro with a bit more of a cruising style and am going with the Brotherhobby Reunion 2318 1250KV on 4S with a 9x5 Prop. This still gives good performance but also a bit more efficiency if i want to extend flight time. This setup is also a bit quieter which can sometimes be useful. I am using the Aeronaut Cam cardbon 9x5.
I am looking to run my new Mini Drak build on 5S and have a Badass 2814 1300Kv and will be testing props for that but probably looking at an APC 7x5 or 7x6.

Great to see more of your empirical testing Glen.
Another prop break - inevitable using brittle fixed wing props.
I know that you don't like folding props, so why not try durable quadcopter props? You are familiar with quads, so I am surprised that you have not made the connection yourself.
Quad prop are quite literally unbreakable! My Vantac AR+ Wing came with Gemfan 51x32x3 3-blade - on a marginal launch it would cut grass and still take-off! The tips can wear doing that, so that is the only reason I have had to replace the prop. Works great on my Durafly EFX Racer too - no more broken props on that craft!
By testing I found that 8x6x2 has an equivalent 3-blade equivalent of the HQProp 7x3.5x3. There are other pitches like 7x4x3. More of your testing would confirm which was more suited to your needs. Never break a prop again!

The APC 8 x 4.5 I am using are multi-rotor props and virtually indestructible, so I am with you there 100%
My launch technique is pretty poor so I am going to focus on improving that.
Hopefully I will get out Monday as there may be a break in the wet and windy weather.

Glenn, Great test.. I've been using the Sunnsky 2216 1400v3 on mine. 8x5 stock prop.. Good performance over the V2 motors.. Might try the Hobby Bros.... Someone just commented to try a HQ 8x5 prop so I am going to give one a try as I think the motor could take a little more than the 8x4.5 which actually flies really well tbh. Glad you enjoying your AR 900, the wing I started with and I love it. I plan to build another one in the new year during the dark cold months.

What's the secret on balancing the AR. I'm having a hard time finding the right CG balance. I'm not running a gopro so I resorted to adding large washers under the battery.

    • @bluefish3607
      @bluefish3607  Рік тому +1

I setup my AR Pro with the GoPro the added weight into the battery compartment until I hit perfect CG. That told me the ideal lipo weight I needed and it happened that the chnl 5000mah 4S was about the weight I needed. My strategy was to get the heaviest lipos possible to hit CG as I would rather have more lipo and flight time than dead weight to hit CG with a smaller battery.

Thanks for sharing these tests! I burned a SS 2216 1400kv v3 on a failed launch when the prop was stuck in the ground. Put the original PNP SS 2216 1400kv v2 on and flew that on APC 8x6 for a while. Then I got another v3 and put that back on. All three have been amazing (in flight) on the 8x6 APC with them never being very warm. I suspect maybe a defect in the one you had? I was initially skeptical of running 8x6 on 1400kv since the "classic" FPV plane combination was 2216 1250kv with 8x6, but again, all three motors on my AR Pro have been great. Does about 115MPH in a slight dive.
Need some more stuff to try on your test rig? I found and printed some extra wing fences for mine but haven't fitted them yet. Reports are split between helps/doesn't help. Files: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4975689

Hi Jacob, I have burned 2 MKIII 1400kv motors now on those APC 8x6 so not sure why you are getting away with it. I have just ordered 4 different 8x5 props to test but the APC 8x4.5 seems to give pretty good all round performance and efficiency. Not that I tend to fly in an effient manner I am quite throttle heavy. Fins look interesting they might be worth a shot, thanks for the link Jacob.
