Ganon is actually very intelligent, as he usually acts as a chessmaster. For example, the entire adult portion of Ocarina of Time is basically cleaning up your own mess after he tricked you into opening the door to the Sacred Realm (and therefore the Trifirce) for him, in the Windwaker he tricks you into fully releasing him from said Sacred Realm after being sealed there at the end of Ocarina of Time and in Twilight Princess he manipulates Zant into doing his work for him.
Ganondorf is smarter than Bowser (kinda depends given bowser has made some plans and devices) however it should be specified that Ganondorf DOES NOT use intelligence in combat. Tendetially Ganondorf uses his intelligence to manipulate people behind the scenes but he doesn't outsmart his enemy during a fight. Ganondorf also tends to be pretty honorable in a fight against a worthy opponent so it's really unlikely that he's going to pull out some dirty tricks to put Bowser down. Also what kind of strategy could Ganondorf even pull out?Not only he cannot produce enough force to kill Bowser,he doesn't have a single hax that can get the job done. Also being more intelligent won't help you that much if your opponent completely wrecks you in every other stats
***** The Curse isn't insta-death. It summons Gohma to eat the Great Deku Tree from within. It was also used on Jabu-Jabu, but Link managed to save him on time. And besides it takes days for Gohma/Tapeworm to actually kill their victims. Not to mention that Bowser's had way more powerful things inside him. And, ok. Lie might be a bit harsh, but it's so misinterpret that it's not even funny.

Also, the whole Bowser can't kill Ganon, so Ganon automatically wins-argument is getting old. Does this also mean that Ganon beats Goku? Or Thor? Or Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? (Though TTGL has the hax to kill Ganon, so whatever) But still. Watch Robot Chicken's video: Silver Bullet. That is the best example against characters who apparently can only be killed by a single things.

the purple things at 13:33 are japanese kanji, translating to something like menacing. it's a popular trend in the anime/manga jojo's bizzare adventure to use it in particular menacing situation or if a character acts paricular menacing/creepy. in cases like these those letter will usually start hoovering across the screen/page.
looks like Ganon cursed Bowser to be dry for eternity. looks like Ganon had a bone to pick with Bowser, but in the end, their struggle collapsed. looks like this fight ended in a magical way that stripped bowser off his skin. i guess Ganon told Bowser a joke so great, it really tickled his funny bone off his body. looks like Bowser was really rotten to the core. how about those puns? good? bad? let me know, and i'll think up of some other ones.
To say something about Bowser surviving a supernova: I'm pretty sure he died, with Mario, Luigi, Peach, the Toads, Bowser Jr, and the rest of them except Rosalina. You see him alive only because the universe reset.

so many have it inaccurate. the death curse ganondorf cast on the deku wasn't gohma, the tree even tells you that the curse sapped him of life and he was already doomed before link even began. gohma was merely a monster living inside the tree that he used to test links courage. im not sure if the curse would rot bowser out as quickly as it did in the battle, but it remains a viable option for Ganon to win like he did.
Ris was right. They said that Ganon was specifically vulnerable to holy weapons but then they changed it at the end. If you watch it and listen for that part you can hear them say two different things.
I...am honestly feeling a bit let down by Death Battle lately. I mean they were doing SO WELL from Guts vs Nightmare to Hercule Satan vs Dan Hibiki...But as of Yang vs Tifa, the only one I feel they've gotten indesputably right is Pokemon vs Digimon. Green Arrow vs Hawkeye is so nailbitingly close it's borderline impossible to get a wrong verdict for it, Mega Man vs Astro Boy has some VERY solid points in Mega Man's favour, and Yang vs Tifa, Dante vs Bayonetta and Bowser vs Ganon should be considered the new unholy trinity due to being the biggest reverse stomps this show has EVER seen. And after this fight? I just...don't know if I can trust their verdicts anymore. I mean...This verdict was based entirely around assumption. They assumed Ganon couldn't be killed by anything that wasn't a holy weapon when there is PLENTY of evidence that proves otherwise. They assumed that Bowser was killed by 'super lava' despite the fact that this is clearly an inconsistent feat compared to his usual durability [A point they brought up to justify Bayonetta's loss to Dante.] They assumed that the 'death curse' could kill Bowser despite the fact that A. It wasn't so much a 'curse' as it was planting a parasite [Gohma] inside the Deku Tree and B. The Deku Tree took hours, if not days, to actually die, certainly long enough for Link to go to sleep, wake up, run around the village, talk to his friends, look for a sword and shield, talk to the Deku Tree, go inside and explore an elaborate dungeon and defeat Gohma before the thing finally died. All in all, I think I'm going to be very skeptical on their verdicts from here on in. Seeing three characters I absolutely adore [Tifa, Bayonetta and Bowser] getting cheated out of victories they should have had in the bag is the last straw, a fact not helped by the unpleasant circumstances of their deaths [Yang just flat out doesn't care that she murdered someone for trying to throw her out of a bar she's not supposed to be in, Bayonetta is doomed to suffer being tortured in hell for all eternity and Bowser was made out to be a complete and utter dumbass who stood zero chance of ever beating Ganon.] Unless they get on another streak of right outcomes, I don't really have high hopes for them...

The worst thing is, that they completely ignored their own research team in the last two episodes. Why even have one, if you'll just ignore what they'll say. And yeah, I completely agree with you. Bowser solos the Zeldaverse.

18:40 - 19:15 - Well; Ganon's never ben bested in the games without the Master Sword or Light/Silver Arrows playing a major part, so it's only really their choice of words that can affect someone's opinion in this Death Battle. Meanwhile; while they don't exposit on Ganondorf's tactical skills all that much; if they did; people would know right off the bat that he'd win as a smart fighter is better than a strong fighter seven times out of ten, and in his games; he's often shown using his enemies to achieve his means, like in Ocarina of Time where he followed Link as he knew Link was collecting the items he needed to access the sacred realm when he couldn't collect them himself, and in Wind Waker; his full power was still restrained by the power of the Master Sword in a submerged version of Hyrule, so he actually encouraged Link to go after the sword because while it could potentially hurt him; it was also the only thing preventing him from summoning his full power and he was confident that he could finish Link off before he became too significant a threat to his plans. He also regularly gathers the holders of the Triforce to him so that he can attempt to claim them; only then does he succumb to his arrogance and fail in his ultimate schemes. Well; either way; that's my opinion and I am a Ganondorf fanboy (his Amiibo figure holds pride and place in my collection) so I'm just happy he beat a fire breathing spike backed tortoise (he's not a turtle; they're streamlined ocean reptiles; Bowser's clearly a land dwelling reptile with a round shell; not streamlined and the one time we see him in the water is in Super Mario Sunshine where he's taking a bath; not something an oceanic reptile needs to do).
Well, I honestly did not really like the episode, but I loved the battle animation, until the end, when it got pretty choppy. The main reason he won is an immunity to everything but holy weapons, but the problem with that is this: although I cannot find a precise page, the Hyrule Historia specifically says this is a fallacy, and it is also proven to be so further when he can be killed by other means. You pointed this out yourself. Such is life in Soviet Russia.

Now, this is just me being a diplomat, but here's another way to say that - you don't know how to compare them, so rather than saying one is an advantage over the other - it's the straw that breaks the camel's back. Whoever wins, they take advantage of that flaw.

The issues that people have had with this episode is that a lot of people seem to think that Bowser should have won because of how much physically stronger and more physically indestructible Bowser is (plus a few magic spells of his own which they say should have been able to beat Ganon). I've even heard someone say that the decaying death curse should not have worked because Bowser survived falling into a black hole....despite the fact that a person's physical invulnerability has nothing at all to do with their magical resistance. Also when they say that Ganon is specifically weak to holy magic, they said that right after saying that he is nearly indestructible. So yes, theoretically if you are strong enough you could destroy his body. But Bowser isn't quite enough to be able to full on destroy Ganon either. In reality I think that Wiz and Boomstick did a decent job with this one.

I really like this fight and even though I would like Bowser to win but I'm ok with Ganon winning as well but all and all, the fight was awesome with the tennis match being my favorite part of the fight. But next time it's Ratchet & Clank VS Jak & Daxter since the latter was just revealed yesterday on Twitter and Facebook but I knew that it was going to happen soon. :D
Ris grestar, if you think about it this is death battle episode 59. That means death battle episode 30 is the death battle in the exact middle of them all. Fox vs bucky the first death battle you ever watched is now the death battle in the middle.
They definitely never pointed out Ganon's intelligence until the end but, he is extremely cunning and smart. Had they mentioned that he can only be killed by holy weapons then everyone would know the outcome before the battle. I love you Ris but, I'm just gonna mention that even with the small amount of info that was provided, it's rather easy to see that his survivability is much greater than Bowser's. When they said he was stabbed through the chest by a holy weapon and then immediately killed the sage with his bare hands. A weapon that was meant to put him down was child's play to Ganon. Even his success rate is greater than Bowser's. In one of the timeline's Ganon canonically killed Link while, Bowser has been struggling for years to achieve such a feat.

Honorable? Have you even played a Zelda game? Or Smash? Ganondorf is the King of disrespect! He tried to kill Link and Zelda by destroying his own damn castle. Also, you're obviously NOT paying attention to the Holy weapons aspect. GANON CAN ONLY BE KILLED BY HOLY WEAPONS! He can be harmed by ordinary strength but, still. And, before you make the argument of Bowser's Star Rod. It was never actually his and was even taken from him and returned to Star Haven. RayvenL X ScarletteG Bowser survived a universal reset and can be turned to stone, which Bowser can do. He's also been killed by non-holy weaponry in the Oracle games. Try again.
the problem was neither had very many options to kill each other due either to extreme lvls of strength and endurance(bowser) or retarded lvls of magic power and immortality (Ganon). also the misconceptions for both characters are in the comments. bowser has not only servived a blackhole but physically fight mario inside one as crazy as it sounds putting both of them at ridiculous lvls of speed and endurance(part of the reason i felt mario shoulda beat sonic). also ganondorf is proven to be immortal to all but weapons containing "evils bane" power which include the master sword and the silver arrows. not even holy weapons like the light arrows do anything more than stun him, and the holy sword of light did nothing more than puss him off. honestly i think they shoulda made ganondorf fight sephiroth to but his master swordsmanship to good use...unfortunately that fight would be a stomp in ganondorfs favor in my opinion.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that a Black Hole doesn't kill you. It just freezes you in time because time doesn't exist inside it. So surviving a Black Hole is very poor wording.
I think it should be noted that Gannondorf is a master of manipulation, he manipulated Agnaihm (or whatever his name is) in A link to the Past, he manipulated Zant in Twilight Princess in order to regain his strength after being stabbed, he even managed to end up in the king's castle without killing a guy in OoT (before child link got the master sword) so he is a good strategist in that sense
Well, Ganon's intellect eeduction can be partly seen from this; The country Ganon wars aganist has an actual army, while the Mushroom Kingdom largely relies on few magically or physically powerful people to protect them. Bowser never really had a strategic mind, as he was mostly focused on at most five people. But Ganon has coordinated assaults on multiple Hyrulean castles and fought in multiple large-scale skirmishes. We just don't see much of Ganon's tactical competence because most of the time, the games focus on Link, a loner adventurer who, most of the time, happens to be either away from the large scale battles or shows up afterward.
I liked this Death Battle, I really tought Bowser was going to win but unfortunenly he did not. But one reason I think I tought that was because I like Bowser more then I like Gandorf. I love your videos Ris Grestar I can,t wait to see your next Death Battle video.
+DementedCow (DementedCow32) It's Jak and Daxter, I see no reason for it to be anyone else, they are really similar, made by the same people like Dante and Bayonetta and have a wide arrange of guns and powers that aren't reliant on buttons like Banjo and Kazooie. They really have no reason to keep it hidden, we know who they are facing.
they did say bowser is illiterate, and rarely changes his strategy, did you really think bowser who time & time again gets beaten by an overweight, pudgy plumber could win? Ganon though he loses to link in the end can say he has actual victories, like killing the guy who was going to execute him in TP, had a land completely controlled for at least 7 years in Orcarina, & being the only male in a society of women.
I started this season watching with my gf, doing what you do. watch the analysis of the two and pause and predict, i voted for bowser for the same reasons you did, oh well :p
Ganondorf's intelligence is very abundant in the games, which they didn't show here. He rose to power not only through force, but through manipulation and clever deception. While he would do things like swear allegiance to the king, behind everyone's back he would eliminate threats to his true plans like the Deku Tree. By all rights, he should've won by now and completely dominated Hyrule without any problem, he only failed in Ocarina of Time because of the bad luck of the triforce rejecting him and in Wind Waker because the king snuck up on him when he wasn't paying attention. In one timeline, he actually does defeat Link and rules over Hyrule for years until a future incarnation is born. I don't know why people constantly say Ganondorf underestimates his opponents. He doesn't. He sets up elaborate traps all over the kingdom and if someone just so happens to be skilled enough to get past all them, then they're worthy of his attention. In Ocarina of Time, part of the reason he allowed Link to run around was because he needed all three triforces and couldn't act until Zelda revealed herself.
A lot of great points. My guess would be that he just comes off as cocky when you do finally face him one-on-one. He has that look like, "You can't possibly defeat me! Bwahh-haa-ha!"
magnum567134 Which, quite frankly, is a cockiness that is earned. Ganondorf usually destroys every other opponent who even attempts to think about attacking him. At the point he faces Link, he has usually bested all the best warriors and sorcerers in the land only to have a Random boy step up and try to fight him. On a somewhat unrelated note, Ganondorf's defeats are never really due to his incompetence or his cockiness, but due to how prepared Link is and how Link is able to win any battle, even one where the odds are completely against him. It's no surprise considering Link is literally made by the goddesses and other entities to defeat him.
In paper mario Bowser had the star rod that was the ONLY thing that COULD have killed Ganon. But in Hyrule Wariors Ganon had the FULL Triforce so it was fair to not include either.
The whole "survived a black hole" bit is REALLY questionable, as Rosalina and the Lumas rebuilt everything (and everyone) destroyed by the black hole. So it seems more likely that Bowser DIDN'T survive it.
Fun fact about Bowser's lack of intelligence: He once attacked Mario from on top of a giant POW block. Really hard to top something like that. Actually, this could be fun. Can anyone else name anything less thought out than that from Bowser?
getting tricked by fawful repeatedly. not knowing chippy was starlow, mistaking paper bowser Jr was his Jr meeting his past self without realizing, kicking the star children out of the castle when he was looking for them.
Can't recall properly, but I think I remember Dry Bowser is supposedly more powerful then plain old Bowser (Or something?) ...Not saying he should've won, just would've been nice to have seen Dry Bowser get an actual part in this battle, haha.
Yeah, you actually do need a holy weapon to finish off Ganon. In OOT, for example, you can get his health down all the way with the Biggoron's Sword (if you've completed the sidequest to get it), and do so faster than with the Master Sword. But you actually need the Master Sword to get the last hit, or else he'll still keep fighting. It's for this reason I was kind of hoping for Ganon vs. Dracula (Castlevania's Dracula, not the much weaker literary Dracula). Drac has a few minions of divine origin (chief among them Death and the Amalric Snipers/Snipers of Goth), and with his Power of Dominance, he can use their power himself, even if it wasn't an army vs. army type battle like Eggman vs. Wily (though that's a type of battle I'd love to see more of on Death Battle).

I thought Ganon's base toughness would make him more invincible than Ganon. Bowser has, at least to my knowledge, ever died that one time where has Ganon over and over through reincarnation despite how much he has learned over the course of countless lives. I don't think the curse should have worked as he has never been shown to be able to use that on the fly, and if he could then theres no reason Bowser couldn't turn Ganon into a brick. Only light magic could change him back after all. The feats that bowser pulls off are more ridiculous in my opinion, but its tough to say.
Yeah... I thought Bowser had it, too. Ganon didn't really have that spectacular an analysis. But the animation was great, and I do appreciate Boomstick being more civil than Wiz on occasion.

The Analysis spoke about Ganon being vulnerable to normal attacks and especially vulnerable to holy weapons. The Conclusion spoke about what could actually KILL him, which so far only were holy weapons. I feel this at least could have been shown or explained better...overall I'm okay with this explanation, though
I have to respectfully disagree with you on Ganon having little intelligence as in the Ocarina of time battle he is smart enough to knock the Master sword out of Links reach, in 4 Sword adventures he manipulates Vaati, and whenhit him one or two times with the arrows in Twilight princess he will use portals similar to Midna to avoid them. I will say, however that I what people are saying when they say Ganon is a mindless beast, but it makes sense as Ganondorf usually becomes Ganon when his clever traps fail and brawn may be the better option.
Ganon loses all the time to a young kid and yet he beat a giant turtle dragon that can live as a dry skeleton and builds hundreds of castles and survive lava dips
I think the reason this battle is so disliked is for a few reasons. One, it seemed short and didn't seem like they went all in depth with it, seemed like the bare minimum of research, play the games, see that something could kill Bowser, see that something specific was required for Ganon, so Ganon wins. This also means that by their logic, nothing Bowser had could have killed Ganon which he needed to so unlike most other battles, this one is 100% in favor of Ganon and thus it makes the fight seem pointless. There is also the fact that apparently the research team disagreed with this, which I have heard they do with a few of these (why have them if you go against them?) so that could be another reason why people are mad. I thought Bayonetta would win because of a prediction blog made by the research team, and while DB made a good argument as to why Dante ended up winning, because he did seem extremely hard to kill, I do still have to wonder why the research team and Wiz and Boomstick aren't on the same page. At the end, this seems like Ryu and Scorpion all over again. One is vastly stronger than the other and would win in normal circumstances, but the other has a hax ability that lets them not die and have infinite power. MK never explained just how strong Scorpion gets in the Netherrealm and Nintendo hasn't explained how strong Ganon gets with the Triforce of Power, nor has it been explored what it really takes to kill them since they can at least die, but they come back. All in all, this kind of BS would let Alduin beat Galactus because despite his overwhelming power, only a Dragonborn can slay him and even then Alduin can't die until he achieves his purpose for ending the world so Galactus can't kill him so the fight is pointless and in the weaker character's favor.
I've only played Twilight Princess but Ganondorf had already proven himself intelligent or at least a cunning, manipulative schemer, more than enough to surpass Bowser along with his own power.
I really don't see the Deku tree curse working nearly that efficiently on Bowser. The tree took FOREVER to die, why would it take 10 seconds on Bowser? I don't even know if Ganon can just use such a strong curse so casually and quickly. I mean, did he use it on anything else? And isn't that like saying Bowser could just casually turn Ganon into brick blocks? I don't disagree with the outcome though. Mostly because I don't really know enough about Ganon to say much. They said he was wounded or so from a castle crashing on him, which Bowser can totally do. But I don't know if that means that enough brute force could necessarily kill him. And to my knowledge, most, if not all, of Bowser's durability feats are in regards to physical harm. He is capable of magic, but I don't know if he's necessarily resistant to it.
If the Inheritance Cycle (a series of books) taught us anything, Magic is affected by distance. It's quite possible that this happens in LoZ as well, there's plenty of evidence pointing to it. The magic shield inside Ganon's Tower vs. the magic that keeps the Ghost Ship invisible, for example. A few hits on the ship wrecks the invisibility, but you need to find weak points for Ganon's Tower, and get assisted by sages.

Necrobones Plus If that was the case, wouldn't that curse have been one of Ganon's most effective close range spells? He should spam that instead of deflectable energy orbs that do eh damage. Haven't played any of the Zelda games though, so I don't know the name of the ship anyway.
(honestly that win was bullshit, we all know it was, Bowser was actually immortal quite obviously until the new smb, which if would actually would be considered canon, then no other game could exist with him dead, except the ones without him, it seemed like a cheap way to get him to die, even though they used the exact same 'death scene' when saying he would survive even lava) (also seriously? using Ganon form but no Giga Bowser? the fight seemed more in favor of Ganon than it actually should've been)

Bowser has only really died to the END OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE which is something I don't think Ganon/dorf (why they kept using both names interchangably is beyond me because they're not) has even a trillionth of the power to accomplish. Even a planet would be pushing it. And likewise Bowser has no ability to truly kill either variant of his foe other than sheer stupid luck. Likely they would both fall over out of exhaustion long before anything else. And Ganon has been said in a few different incarnations to specifically have no intelligence (...even though he's shown to at least be able to speak in that form...). Bowser ought to have the advantage there for the first time in his stupid life (except possibly Booster from Mario RPG). I think an issue may come to that Bowser's strengths and weaknesses have both been wildly inconsistent over the years. Remember how he used to be completely stopped by lava and now it just mildly pisses him off? Or how he's powerful enough to destroy buildings and then can't even bust down a door without Mario's help? (or how his species apparently can't interbreed with humans but his son's mother was recently revealed to be Shigeru Miyamoto yes this is a thing that really happened) Meanwhile with Ganon/dorf the biggest inconsistency is how he always looks wildly different between incarnations. They've added some things (heck it took them three games to tell us that he was a dude instead of a pigbeast and it took them four games to show us what he looked like as a dude, which led to him looking hilariously off in the Link to the Past manga holy shit he was like stocky and shaggy and had black hair it was awesome) but they've kept things in the same general realm. And oh Ris, talk about devouring your opponent never being a good idea, have you forgotten how Rainbow Dash up and ATE Starscream at the end of their match?

Gannondorf is very smart. Both OoT and wind Wakers storys are centered around gannondorf tricking link zelda and the king into giving him the power he needs by opening the sacred realm in OoT and releasing the master swords seal in wind waker.

Hi Ris, I'm a long time fan of your, I think I started watching you since the first episode of sonic generations (can't remember exactly but it was around that time) and I wanted to ask you if you could react to AnimationRewind; he made a series called cartoon fight club that's based on characters fighting kinda like death battle, he has a bigger team of researchers and seems to be growing faster then screwattack; he also has a lot better animation now, I think it would be cool if you reacted to his superman new 52 vs goku or his naruto vs goku, he makes awesome vids and he seems like he enjoys people reacting to his videos

Ganon is actually very intelligent, as he usually acts as a chessmaster. For example, the entire adult portion of Ocarina of Time is basically cleaning up your own mess after he tricked you into opening the door to the Sacred Realm (and therefore the Trifirce) for him, in the Windwaker he tricks you into fully releasing him from said Sacred Realm after being sealed there at the end of Ocarina of Time and in Twilight Princess he manipulates Zant into doing his work for him.

Ganondorf is smarter than Bowser (kinda depends given bowser has made some plans and devices) however it should be specified that Ganondorf DOES NOT use intelligence in combat.
Tendetially Ganondorf uses his intelligence to manipulate people behind the scenes but he doesn't outsmart his enemy during a fight.
Ganondorf also tends to be pretty honorable in a fight against a worthy opponent so it's really unlikely that he's going to pull out some dirty tricks to put Bowser down.

so many have it inaccurate. the death curse ganondorf cast on the deku wasn't gohma, the tree even tells you that the curse sapped him of life and he was already doomed before link even began. gohma was merely a monster living inside the tree that he used to test links courage. im not sure if the curse would rot bowser out as quickly as it did in the battle, but it remains a viable option for Ganon to win like he did.
Ris was right. They said that Ganon was specifically vulnerable to holy weapons but then they changed it at the end. If you watch it and listen for that part you can hear them say two different things.

I...am honestly feeling a bit let down by Death Battle lately. I mean they were doing SO WELL from Guts vs Nightmare to Hercule Satan vs Dan Hibiki...But as of Yang vs Tifa, the only one I feel they've gotten indesputably right is Pokemon vs Digimon. Green Arrow vs Hawkeye is so nailbitingly close it's borderline impossible to get a wrong verdict for it, Mega Man vs Astro Boy has some VERY solid points in Mega Man's favour, and Yang vs Tifa, Dante vs Bayonetta and Bowser vs Ganon should be considered the new unholy trinity due to being the biggest reverse stomps this show has EVER seen. And after this fight? I just...don't know if I can trust their verdicts anymore. I mean...This verdict was based entirely around assumption. They assumed Ganon couldn't be killed by anything that wasn't a holy weapon when there is PLENTY of evidence that proves otherwise. They assumed that Bowser was killed by 'super lava' despite the fact that this is clearly an inconsistent feat compared to his usual durability [A point they brought up to justify Bayonetta's loss to Dante.] They assumed that the 'death curse' could kill Bowser despite the fact that A. It wasn't so much a 'curse' as it was planting a parasite [Gohma] inside the Deku Tree and B. The Deku Tree took hours, if not days, to actually die, certainly long enough for Link to go to sleep, wake up, run around the village, talk to his friends, look for a sword and shield, talk to the Deku Tree, go inside and explore an elaborate dungeon and defeat Gohma before the thing finally died. All in all, I think I'm going to be very skeptical on their verdicts from here on in. Seeing three characters I absolutely adore [Tifa, Bayonetta and Bowser] getting cheated out of victories they should have had in the bag is the last straw, a fact not helped by the unpleasant circumstances of their deaths [Yang just flat out doesn't care that she murdered someone for trying to throw her out of a bar she's not supposed to be in, Bayonetta is doomed to suffer being tortured in hell for all eternity and Bowser was made out to be a complete and utter dumbass who stood zero chance of ever beating Ganon.] Unless they get on another streak of right outcomes, I don't really have high hopes for them...

Meanwhile; while they don't exposit on Ganondorf's tactical skills all that much; if they did; people would know right off the bat that he'd win as a smart fighter is better than a strong fighter seven times out of ten, and in his games; he's often shown using his enemies to achieve his means, like in Ocarina of Time where he followed Link as he knew Link was collecting the items he needed to access the sacred realm when he couldn't collect them himself, and in Wind Waker; his full power was still restrained by the power of the Master Sword in a submerged version of Hyrule, so he actually encouraged Link to go after the sword because while it could potentially hurt him; it was also the only thing preventing him from summoning his full power and he was confident that he could finish Link off before he became too significant a threat to his plans. He also regularly gathers the holders of the Triforce to him so that he can attempt to claim them; only then does he succumb to his arrogance and fail in his ultimate schemes. Well; either way; that's my opinion and I am a Ganondorf fanboy (his Amiibo figure holds pride and place in my collection) so I'm just happy he beat a fire breathing spike backed tortoise (he's not a turtle; they're streamlined ocean reptiles; Bowser's clearly a land dwelling reptile with a round shell; not streamlined and the one time we see him in the water is in Super Mario Sunshine where he's taking a bath; not something an oceanic reptile needs to do).

Well, I honestly did not really like the episode, but I loved the battle animation, until the end, when it got pretty choppy. The main reason he won is an immunity to everything but holy weapons, but the problem with that is this: although I cannot find a precise page, the Hyrule Historia specifically says this is a fallacy, and it is also proven to be so further when he can be killed by other means. You pointed this out yourself. Such is life in Soviet Russia.

Hey, little thought Ris Grestar.When you tried to compare "tends to be brought down by his own traps" vs "arrogance often leads to his own downfall," and you didn't want to sound like you were discounting them. Now, this is just me being a diplomat, but here's another way to say that - you don't know how to compare them, so rather than saying one is an advantage over the other - it's the straw that breaks the camel's back. Whoever wins, they take advantage of that flaw.
Hey Ris! The issues that people have had with this episode is that a lot of people seem to think that Bowser should have won because of how much physically stronger and more physically indestructible Bowser is (plus a few magic spells of his own which they say should have been able to beat Ganon).
I've even heard someone say that the decaying death curse should not have worked because Bowser survived falling into a black hole....despite the fact that a person's physical invulnerability has nothing at all to do with their magical resistance.
Also when they say that Ganon is specifically weak to holy magic, they said that right after saying that he is nearly indestructible. So yes, theoretically if you are strong enough you could destroy his body. But Bowser isn't quite enough to be able to full on destroy Ganon either.
In reality I think that Wiz and Boomstick did a decent job with this one.

I really like this fight and even though I would like Bowser to win but I'm ok with Ganon winning as well but all and all, the fight was awesome with the tennis match being my favorite part of the fight. They definitely never pointed out Ganon's intelligence until the end but, he is extremely cunning and smart. Had they mentioned that he can only be killed by holy weapons then everyone would know the outcome before the battle. I love you Ris but, I'm just gonna mention that even with the small amount of info that was provided, it's rather easy to see that his survivability is much greater than Bowser's. When they said he was stabbed through the chest by a holy weapon and then immediately killed the sage with his bare hands. A weapon that was meant to put him down was child's play to Ganon. Even his success rate is greater than Bowser's. In one of the timeline's Ganon canonically killed Link while, Bowser has been struggling for years to achieve such a feat.

Honorable? Have you even played a Zelda game? Or Smash? Ganondorf is the King of disrespect! He tried to kill Link and Zelda by destroying his own damn castle. Also, you're obviously NOT paying attention to the Holy weapons aspect. GANON CAN ONLY BE KILLED BY HOLY WEAPONS! He can be harmed by ordinary strength but, still. And, before you make the argument of Bowser's Star Rod. It was never actually his and was even taken from him and returned to Star Haven. the problem was neither had very many options to kill each other due either to extreme lvls of strength and endurance(bowser) or retarded lvls of magic power and immortality (Ganon). also the misconceptions for both characters are in the comments. bowser has not only servived a blackhole but physically fight mario inside one as crazy as it sounds putting both of them at ridiculous lvls of speed and endurance(part of the reason i felt mario shoulda beat sonic). also ganondorf is proven to be immortal to all but weapons containing "evils bane" power which include the master sword and the silver arrows. not even holy weapons like the light arrows do anything more than stun him, and the holy sword of light did nothing more than puss him off. honestly i think they shoulda made ganondorf fight sephiroth to but his master swordsmanship to good use...unfortunately that fight would be a stomp in ganondorfs favor in my opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that a Black Hole doesn't kill you. It just freezes you in time because time doesn't exist inside it. So surviving a Black Hole is very poor wording.

I think it should be noted that Gannondorf is a master of manipulation, he manipulated Agnaihm (or whatever his name is) in A link to the Past, he manipulated Zant in Twilight Princess in order to regain his strength after being stabbed, he even managed to end up in the king's castle without killing a guy in OoT (before child link got the master sword) so he is a good strategist in that sense

Well, Ganon's intellect eeduction can be partly seen from this; The country Ganon wars aganist has an actual army, while the Mushroom Kingdom largely relies on few magically or physically powerful people to protect them. Bowser never really had a strategic mind, as he was mostly focused on at most five people. But Ganon has coordinated assaults on multiple Hyrulean castles and fought in multiple large-scale skirmishes. We just don't see much of Ganon's tactical competence because most of the time, the games focus on Link, a loner adventurer who, most of the time, happens to be either away from the large scale battles or shows up afterward.
I liked this Death Battle, I really tought Bowser was going to win but unfortunenly he did not. But one reason I think I tought that was because I like Bowser more then I like Gandorf. I love your videos Ris Grestar I can,t wait to see your next Death Battle video.

I started this season watching with my gf, doing what you do. watch the analysis of the two and pause and predict, i voted for bowser for the same reasons you did, oh well :p
Ganondorf's intelligence is very abundant in the games, which they didn't show here. He rose to power not only through force, but through manipulation and clever deception. While he would do things like swear allegiance to the king, behind everyone's back he would eliminate threats to his true plans like the Deku Tree. By all rights, he should've won by now and completely dominated Hyrule without any problem, he only failed in Ocarina of Time because of the bad luck of the triforce rejecting him and in Wind Waker because the king snuck up on him when he wasn't paying attention. In one timeline, he actually does defeat Link and rules over Hyrule for years until a future incarnation is born.
I don't know why people constantly say Ganondorf underestimates his opponents. He doesn't. He sets up elaborate traps all over the kingdom and if someone just so happens to be skilled enough to get past all them, then they're worthy of his attention. In Ocarina of Time, part of the reason he allowed Link to run around was because he needed all three triforces and couldn't act until Zelda revealed herself.
A lot of great points. My guess would be that he just comes off as cocky when you do finally face him one-on-one. He has that look like, "You can't possibly defeat me! Bwahh-haa-ha!"
magnum567134 Which, quite frankly, is a cockiness that is earned. Ganondorf usually destroys every other opponent who even attempts to think about attacking him. At the point he faces Link, he has usually bested all the best warriors and sorcerers in the land only to have a Random boy step up and try to fight him.
On a somewhat unrelated note, Ganondorf's defeats are never really due to his incompetence or his cockiness, but due to how prepared Link is and how Link is able to win any battle, even one where the odds are completely against him. It's no surprise considering Link is literally made by the goddesses and other entities to defeat him.

In paper mario Bowser had the star rod that was the ONLY thing that COULD have killed Ganon. But in Hyrule Wariors Ganon had the FULL Triforce so it was fair to not include either.
The whole "survived a black hole" bit is REALLY questionable, as Rosalina and the Lumas rebuilt everything (and everyone) destroyed by the black hole. So it seems more likely that Bowser DIDN'T survive it.

Can't recall properly, but I think I remember Dry Bowser is supposedly more powerful then plain old Bowser (Or something?) ...Not saying he should've won, just would've been nice to have seen Dry Bowser get an actual part in this battle, haha.

Yeah, you actually do need a holy weapon to finish off Ganon. In OOT, for example, you can get his health down all the way with the Biggoron's Sword (if you've completed the sidequest to get it), and do so faster than with the Master Sword. But you actually need the Master Sword to get the last hit, or else he'll still keep fighting.
It's for this reason I was kind of hoping for Ganon vs. Dracula (Castlevania's Dracula, not the much weaker literary Dracula). Drac has a few minions of divine origin (chief among them Death and the Amalric Snipers/Snipers of Goth), and with his Power of Dominance, he can use their power himself, even if it wasn't an army vs. army type battle like Eggman vs. Wily (though that's a type of battle I'd love to see more of on Death Battle).

it's a bit strange that there's only one gerudo male in every 100 years. so one has to wonder: how do the gerudo's breed? you might say that they go to Hyrule to seek mates, but from what i've seen in Ocarina of time, they weren't that friendly to outsiders. last time i checked, they locked anybody up.
ahed jehad they don't search for boyfriends, they search for one night stands, so it isn't unbelievable that they still bear children. The only reason they locked up the other dudes was because they were trespassing.
I thought Ganon's base toughness would make him more invincible than Ganon. Bowser has, at least to my knowledge, ever died that one time where has Ganon over and over through reincarnation despite how much he has learned over the course of countless lives. I don't think the curse should have worked as he has never been shown to be able to use that on the fly, and if he could then theres no reason Bowser couldn't turn Ganon into a brick. Only light magic could change him back after all. The feats that bowser pulls off are more ridiculous in my opinion, but its tough to say.

Yeah... I thought Bowser had it, too. Ganon didn't really have that spectacular an analysis. But the animation was great, and I do appreciate Boomstick being more civil than Wiz on occasion.
He doesn't grow at will, he has to be in critical danger to do it. It's described in the game the growth occurs in- bowser's inside story.
And yet he could still do it in Super Mario Galaxy

The Analysis spoke about Ganon being vulnerable to normal attacks and especially vulnerable to holy weapons. The Conclusion spoke about what could actually KILL him, which so far only were holy weapons. I feel this at least could have been shown or explained better...overall I'm okay with this explanation, though

I have to respectfully disagree with you on Ganon having little intelligence as in the Ocarina of time battle he is smart enough to knock the Master sword out of Links reach, in 4 Sword adventures he manipulates Vaati, and whenhit him one or two times with the arrows in Twilight princess he will use portals similar to Midna to avoid them.
I will say, however that I what people are saying when they say Ganon is a mindless beast, but it makes sense as Ganondorf usually becomes Ganon when his clever traps fail and brawn may be the better option.

Ganon loses all the time to a young kid and yet he beat a giant turtle dragon that can live as a dry skeleton and builds hundreds of castles and survive lava dips
I think the reason this battle is so disliked is for a few reasons. One, it seemed short and didn't seem like they went all in depth with it, seemed like the bare minimum of research, play the games, see that something could kill Bowser, see that something specific was required for Ganon, so Ganon wins. This also means that by their logic, nothing Bowser had could have killed Ganon which he needed to so unlike most other battles, this one is 100% in favor of Ganon and thus it makes the fight seem pointless. There is also the fact that apparently the research team disagreed with this, which I have heard they do with a few of these (why have them if you go against them?) so that could be another reason why people are mad. I thought Bayonetta would win because of a prediction blog made by the research team, and while DB made a good argument as to why Dante ended up winning, because he did seem extremely hard to kill, I do still have to wonder why the research team and Wiz and Boomstick aren't on the same page.
At the end, this seems like Ryu and Scorpion all over again. One is vastly stronger than the other and would win in normal circumstances, but the other has a hax ability that lets them not die and have infinite power. MK never explained just how strong Scorpion gets in the Netherrealm and Nintendo hasn't explained how strong Ganon gets with the Triforce of Power, nor has it been explored what it really takes to kill them since they can at least die, but they come back.
All in all, this kind of BS would let Alduin beat Galactus because despite his overwhelming power, only a Dragonborn can slay him and even then Alduin can't die until he achieves his purpose for ending the world so Galactus can't kill him so the fight is pointless and in the weaker character's favor.

I've only played Twilight Princess but Ganondorf had already proven himself intelligent or at least a cunning, manipulative schemer, more than enough to surpass Bowser along with his own power.

I really don't see the Deku tree curse working nearly that efficiently on Bowser. The tree took FOREVER to die, why would it take 10 seconds on Bowser? I don't even know if Ganon can just use such a strong curse so casually and quickly. I mean, did he use it on anything else? And isn't that like saying Bowser could just casually turn Ganon into brick blocks?
I don't disagree with the outcome though. Mostly because I don't really know enough about Ganon to say much. They said he was wounded or so from a castle crashing on him, which Bowser can totally do. But I don't know if that means that enough brute force could necessarily kill him. And to my knowledge, most, if not all, of Bowser's durability feats are in regards to physical harm. He is capable of magic, but I don't know if he's necessarily resistant to it.
If the Inheritance Cycle (a series of books) taught us anything, Magic is affected by distance. It's quite possible that this happens in LoZ as well, there's plenty of evidence pointing to it. The magic shield inside Ganon's Tower vs. the magic that keeps the Ghost Ship invisible, for example. A few hits on the ship wrecks the invisibility, but you need to find weak points for Ganon's Tower, and get assisted by sages.
Necrobones Plus I don't know if that really respond to anything I said, but that is pretty neat. I've never heard of distance being a factor for magic. Other than some magics having a max range.
Xargas I was referring to how you talked about how the deku tree curse not working in 10 seconds. Also, I said the Ghost Ship because i didn't know which ship it was; I know it's not actually called the Ghost Ship. It's that ship dungeon from Skyward Sword.

(honestly that win was bullshit, we all know it was, Bowser was actually immortal quite obviously until the new smb, which if would actually would be considered canon, then no other game could exist with him dead, except the ones without him, it seemed like a cheap way to get him to die, even though they used the exact same 'death scene' when saying he would survive even lava)

Hey Ris I probably have and idea to why Ganon may not be considered "smart" he probably is very smart but the thing is he goes up against someone like Link and we all know that link probably has an IQ of God knows what..so imo Ganon is not stupid.. he just fights a guy who is way smarter than him

I feel like they failed on this one. Neither should have the means to totally kill the other. Bowser has only really died to the END OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE which is something I don't think Ganon/dorf (why they kept using both names interchangably is beyond me because they're not) has even a trillionth of the power to accomplish. Even a planet would be pushing it. And likewise Bowser has no ability to truly kill either variant of his foe other than sheer stupid luck. Likely they would both fall over out of exhaustion long before anything else.
And Ganon has been said in a few different incarnations to specifically have no intelligence (...even though he's shown to at least be able to speak in that form...). Bowser ought to have the advantage there for the first time in his stupid life (except possibly Booster from Mario RPG).
I think an issue may come to that Bowser's strengths and weaknesses have both been wildly inconsistent over the years. Remember how he used to be completely stopped by lava and now it just mildly pisses him off? Or how he's powerful enough to destroy buildings and then can't even bust down a door without Mario's help? (or how his species apparently can't interbreed with humans but his son's mother was recently revealed to be Shigeru Miyamoto yes this is a thing that really happened)
Meanwhile with Ganon/dorf the biggest inconsistency is how he always looks wildly different between incarnations. They've added some things (heck it took them three games to tell us that he was a dude instead of a pigbeast and it took them four games to show us what he looked like as a dude, which led to him looking hilariously off in the Link to the Past manga holy shit he was like stocky and shaggy and had black hair it was awesome) but they've kept things in the same general realm.
And oh Ris, talk about devouring your opponent never being a good idea, have you forgotten how Rainbow Dash up and ATE Starscream at the end of their match?

Just like "DigiDestined", 7 Star Children have power to take over the WHOLE GALAXY!!! Bowser is 1/7 of that power, it don't provide some magic immunity or at very least resistances?!?! I mean... Link have protection, EVEN when he don't possess the TriForce of Courage ('cause come on, not every game he have it... hell, he don't even have a Master Sword in all games).

Gannondorf is very smart. Both OoT and wind Wakers storys are centered around gannondorf tricking link zelda and the king into giving him the power he needs by opening the sacred realm in OoT and releasing the master swords seal in wind waker.

Hi Ris, I'm a long time fan of your, I think I started watching you since the first episode of sonic generations (can't remember exactly but it was around that time) and I wanted to ask you if you could react to AnimationRewind; he made a series called cartoon fight club that's based on characters fighting kinda like death battle, he has a bigger team of researchers and seems to be growing faster then screwattack; he also has a lot better animation now, I think it would be cool if you reacted to his superman new 52 vs goku or his naruto vs goku, he makes awesome vids and he seems like he enjoys people reacting to his videos
