- I had some really terrible luck with the deer lately. I wonder if it had anything to do with my constant violence against them? Probably not.

The improved deers that Downpour added are actually different creatures called devtools.

@Mini Raptor rain deer rep does change its behavior I'm pretty sure, makes they less likely to come to you or bow down next to u.

they made it so you if you wiggle on a deers horns in one direction they will be startled and go that way, its very consistent for me in making them do their job
That always seemed to just make them freeze and stop thinking for the rest of the cycle for me

I don’t know how it works but my theory is that it’s intentional, artificer’s reputation starts at low for Scav so I think it might be the same for rain deer too

I had a similar experience with saint... even after everything has collapsed, deers are still useless
those deer remember what you did to that one you brung to five pebbles a while back
shocker... the deer stop moving when met with an explosion... almost like deer in headlights...
I was having this problem on my gourmand run! I feel like the deer wait longer than they used to and are way more likely to just sit there vibing until you both drown. But they were always kinda like that, so... not really sure if it's new or not.
This is intentional behavior, of they dont like u, they shake u off and stop moving

deer run off of a reputation system so attacking them and not giving them food as payment probably made them dislike you, therefore intentionally sabotaging you.

a lot of this stupidity happened because deers have a reputation system. If you hurt a deer all raindeers this cycle won't help you, i think they should have added more indication that they don't like you, wiggle their head around and try to throw you away for example
The more I watch this, the more I want to buy it on the switch, but I don't nintendo online nor access to the e shop which makes me search for a physical copy only for the physical copy to not exist which makes me wanna play it more

Oh god, had the exact same issue with my Artificer accension run. After a solid two hours and not a single Rain Deer cooperating I just capitulated and dev tooled to subterranean.

I kinda feel like with Downpour that the creature AI bugs out more often than in vanilla, specifically with lizards and deer (they like to spin and finger paint with my corpse / they just dont move period).
Lizards always did that, the deer are more glitchy now since they changed their ai
And this is why a mod was made on the Steam workshop to become completely immune to Wormgrass. Because these deer are unreliable.

That was indeed rain deer. also honestly nice luck, usually when I stab them once they just start camping pipe entrances or trying to actively shake me off, might be hunters lower starting rep tho

From my experience new deers almoust never move when you jump on them before they lower their horns while eating. I had the same issue as Artificier after I used an explosive jump like in this video to get on them. Either they bug out or that is intentional (you wanna ride w/o feeding me first - screw you buddy"). Maybe it's just me but when I use the intended way to get on they usually work fine

The rain deer AI is really specific...
With its "upgrades" Coming with RWR it became even worse
Their inactivity can be explained probably by the ai that thinks that raindeers are always offended at slug cat and it makes them stop and nod when sluggie is riding them
oh my, 4 days late and 210 comments... anyways, I dont see anyone mentioning it, but throwing the sporepods, the gas it leaves behind stays for a very long time. the deer at 1:07 was trying to get the *two* spore pods you threw, might have jumbled its brain with priority or something, I have no clue.. Along with 2:08, that is also a place you threw the 3rd spore pod, 4:12 you threw a spore into the worm grass, and they all seem to gather near it, but not go in it. there is probably code added that their AI cant self-get into wormgrass, but they wanted to get the spores, thus a dilemma getting them stuck.
extra notes: at 4:44 you threw a downward grenade that popped a spore pod, that is why the 4:58 deer stuck there,
the issue seems that spore trails just dont despawn, and can only be consumed, though confused priority, (if there is any) makes them not able to effectively dispose of such trails.
Even though you are long past this place, hopefully just throwing 1 spore pod in a open place should be able to surpass this issue, as that is how I got past it.

i was going to farm arrays once and a deer got SO stuck that it was gonna die to wormgrass. i was playing survivor, and it was on a slope so i had to waste a spear and throw downwards, and then be lucky enough to get another spear. but no matter how i tried, i couldn’t get the deer off so i literally stabbed it like 3 times and jumped on right before it went -nyeooom- flying
died to more wormgrass later that cycle due to deer not spawning. love modless rw

With Artificer it feels more sane to try and bomb jump most of these.
The dear have worked somewhat better... it it wasn't for that one damn Echo near the end of this I wouldn't touch this region save for the echo actually in it. Especially the deer sections that Vultures can appear in because deer aren't masochism enough.

Damn, deers are so annoying.. One time a deer decided to just fall in the grass. It never stood up and I got stuck..
I tried for like hours to make the deers work in that area. Literally HOURS. Only once it worked.

I had the same problem.I don’t know it might just be me but if you stay still on it’s horns for a solid 10 or 20 seconds it will eventually move.
I did that for a few of them but edited it out because it's not very entertaining to watch, haha

I finally figured out why rain deer were that broken as artificier, after going to farm arrays as artificier myself. I think it's because the game spawns so many scavengers for artificier that it can't process the AI of everything and they take a long time to respond/move. They seem to react faster when the scavs haven't spawned yet. It took me like an hour to get past a single rain deer section.
yeah the deer have been worse lately i feel lmaoo. what i ended up doing was just pressing and holding B with dev tools on and dragging the deer across while i was on it
