I was born and raised in Lower Bear Waller. I miss the good times we had when the town was a busy and we had about 5000 people at one time. That was in the early 1950’s and ‘60’s.

That church used to be Free Will Baptist and I grew up in that church. Until I was twelve and then I attended the Assembly of God farther up the road. I used to be able to name every family in each house all the way up that hallow from Dante center all the way up the mountain. I sure miss that time.

HEY HEY. Hi guys! My name is Curt, and I lived and grew up in Bearwallow (1 word, not 2 :-D) HOWEVER, I realize that those of us who grew up there often slaughter simple words; sometimes we LOVINGLY convert 1 syllable words into 5 syllables (example: Jesus may sound like "Ja - HEE - Zuhs - Ah - Hah" ... or something like that. :-D So no harm no foul. LOL. First, THANK YOU for taking time to do this; not just for Dante and Bearwallow, but all the places you visit. The Blessings and the MEMORIES that come pouring back as I watch are MAGNIFICENT! And sometimes, I even recall SMELLS and SOUNDS from my childhood. Sunday Dinners, Pies, ... the fragrance of the woods and forest that come back to me , the sound of the CREEK (not "Crick" haha).. You guys are awesome. Keep it up! A FOOTNOTE ABOUT Bearwallow. If I may respectfully submit that you were, indeed in "Lower Bearwaller Holler" when you were at the Dante Museum, drove by the truck with a missing door, etc. haha. However, what you called "Upper Bearwaller" is actually just "Bearwaller". Had you made a Left Turn when you finished driving UP that section, "UPPER Bearwallow" is actually that little stretch of road for about 1 1/2 miles, until you get to the BOTTOM of Hazel Mountain. There used to be MANY houses in "Upper Bearwallow" - which was one big row of houses that would have been to your RIGHT, way down below the road. So far down you would have had to stop and peeked over the edge to see most of them. My Mamaw and Papaw lived under that hill about halfway up "Upper Bearwallow". :-) Of course, of the 20+ houses that used to be along that stretch have all been torn down, save maybe 1 or 2. My dad lived at the TOP of "Upper Bearwallow". By the huge water tank (now gone as well). Please accept my "mild" observations here. I know you desire to be accurate, and I hope this is very helpful to your time and efforts. So many stories that could be told, so much to say. Perhaps another time and place. ... but I'll stop here. I've subscribed to your channel, and look forward to more! BE SAFE, and God Bless!!! Curt Monk, Defiance Ohio

So I’m confused - in Appalachia, is “wallow” actually pronounced “waller”……???
Or did you guys just stop at “Bear Wallow Bar” before filming this…..😂
I guess the good thing about living on Upper Bear Wallow Road is that your front yard maintenance is kept to a minimum……😮
