RIDING THE TRANS-SIBERIAN EXPRESS - Is this the most incredible stretch of the railway journey? 3RD CLASS CABIN TOUR
I’ve been fascinated by the TransSiberian train for years. So when I was interviewing a Russian from Vladivostok, I asked him all kinds of off the record about the train he took regularly while he was serving in the Russian armed forces. He said to never take first class because it’s boring, just sitting alone or with a partner looking out the window at birch trees for five days. He said third class is the way to go because you meet people, and they generally are warm & welcoming. “There are love affairs that begin and end on the TransSiberian Railway. It’s an epic voyage where everyone shares vodka and camaraderie” Apparently the lure of the TransSiberian Railway isn’t watching the sameness of the outside views (lots and lots and lots of birch trees, which are the only trees that thrive there.) It’s the drama inside.
hahaha, that is actually a brilliant point! It's a lot more fun as you never know who you are going to meet for sure! I have some lovely memories of people that I met on the train. we are planning to take a lot more trains when we are back in Russia, can't wait to film and share it 😊
Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed it please leave a 'thumbs up', leave a comment and hit 'subscribe' for more videos from our travels in Russia and beyond! :)
40 hours on the train was definitely a first for us! What was the longest train journey you have taken?
Have any of you ever taken or are planning to take the Trans-Siberian Express?
I have a plan about this topic. I wonder that places so much. My favorite dreams are; touring the world by caravan and travelliing by transsiberian exspress
Also I like your videos. Your filming style is very nice, both of you are smile everytime. It is very important for me...
I took through Trans-Siberian from Khabarovsk to Krasnoyarsk, stayed in Krasnoyarsk for 6 weeks then took the Trans-Siberian on to Moscow. This was in summer of 1995, and I think the whole train ride took 8 or 9 days? Maybe 4 to Krasny, then 5 to Moscow.
Where did you get the KOZEL beer? (min 7:07)
It's a pity that you weren't in Tyumen! Tyumen is the fastest growing metropolis in Russia. Tyumen is thriving at its own expense and has the richest reserves of oil and gas, while the rest of Russia's cities are poor.

Thank you for each and every one of your wonderful vloggs . It really gives us a insight into how other people liveb❤❤❤❤
You are such a harmonious couple. Absolutely loved the video! :)
Thank you so much! 🤗 Really happy to hear that you enjoyed this video 🤗❤️
The two of you are such great travelers and guides. I'm enjoying your adventures immensely. You are wonderful together! Wishing you all the best now and always.
This was awesome! Definitely learning a lot from your travels so thanks for taking us along! The last long distance train trip I took was an Ontario Northland route that took me from Southern to Northern Ontario Canada but that was over 10yrs now. Your trip looks really fun and is making me wish the travel restrictions would end faster so I could enjoy something similar. Until that time, I’m gonna live vicariously through your adventures haha
Thank you so much Raphael, we really appreciate it! ☺️
Oooh, through Ontario sounds beautiful!
Sure the travel restrictions won't last forever 🤞 but until that time so happy you are travelling with us 😀❤️
Thank you for taking us on your journey
Excellent video guys, I really liked your narration and drone footages. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it 🤗❤️
glad you both spoke a bit as I think this makes these travel videos much more personal and welcoming
Thank you very much 🤗❤️
Thank you so much for a great and informational video guys!!!
You are so welcome 😀❤️
I must do this train. What a fantastic way to travel through this fantastic country
This is a great video, I enjoyed every moment you shared.

the English twang in Julia's accent is adorable!
Thank you so much Dean 🤗❤️
you've enjoyed the journey, so we the watching group. Thanks a lot
Amazing video. Loved your trip.
Thank you so much! 😀X
I love those teacups, have traveling by train in at that time SSSR, the tea was free then, you took it from the samovar in the end of the wagon. Was the tea - chai - free in your train?
Awesome experience 👏 greetings from Greece 🇬🇷
thanks for sharing your journey!
You are so welcome Nancy ❤️
Looking forward to seeing load’s more of your trips
You're both two sweethearts and i wish you all the best .
Thank you so much Ray, really appreciate that! 😊❤️🙏🏻
Super lucky. Awesome travel!
Thank you so much, its an incredibly beautiful journey ☺️❤️
Terrific video. Your editing is great. I genuinely look forward to your videos, and give a silent "great!" when I get a new video notice on my phone.
It will get down to -29°C in Minnesota tonight (where I am located), and it seems very fitting content to enjoy!
Thank you so much Christopher! Really appreciate it, we can feel how our editing is getting slightly better each video, really glad you enjoy it ☺️❤️
Defintely the perfect content for -29'c 😃 ironically, this Sunday was the first time since we arrived in December the temperature here in Siberia went above 0'c 🙄 X
Wonderful video. Thanks
❤️🙌
Beautiful place. I hope someday...
Great video, very informative. I checked your other videos. Definitely worth a like and the subscription.
That looks amazing. I am hoping to do a similar trip someday soon!
You will love it ❤️
Молодцы!
I travelled 27 hours in that class, unfourtenetly in the upper bed, which is hard that many hours. But is was worth it, I would do it again for Russia ❤
Thank you for the bloopers, they are much fun 🤭
27 hours in the upper bed definitely sounds hard! Much easier when you can sit by the table all the time. Where were you travelling? 😊
Ahaha, so glad you love the bloopers! They are our favourite part too 😃❤️
@@MattandJulia Murom-Tyumen and after 3 days, Tyumen-Moscow. Both trips with upper beds. And I was scared to take breaks by going out in stations, because I didnt trust that train schedule 🤣 like I said, I regret nothing, because I love Russia so much and I hope to see her again ❤
Yes, bloopers favorite part, keep them coming 🤭
@Hailey Hedland yes. Too bad they are hard to get, or they are expensive 😅
Lovely couple
Nice video, very informative.. Would probably have taken it in the summertime though 😅
I love traveling by train. The furthers I've gone is from chicago to washington dc. But I hope to travel more in the future.
It's defintely our favourite way to travel too! How long did Chicago to DC take? Must be a long one for sure ☺️
@@MattandJulia it's was around 17-19 hrs. It's a lovely way to meet people. The trains here at least usually have a dining/siteseeing car that has really big windows and you just sort of get sat with anyone else and just chat over your meals and watch the scenery go by.
Oh wow, we have seen those types of carriages with the big windows on a video from Switzerland, what an incredible idea! Yeah the social aspect is the best part for sure ☺️
12:29 - Мне страшно подумать, что бы вы начали устраивать в поезде, если бы вам пришлось поехать до Владивостока. Могоча, Сковородино, Ерофей Павлович - вот это всё
An incredible journey with a beautiful vlog to go with it. Thanks guys. Luv you.💕💕 Harriet and Jim.Richmond, Va.
..Well Done .
It's so funny to watch your wondering and read comments about our usual life.
Very Nice vídeo.
Thank you 😊
5:55 любимый подстаканник РЖД!
Awesome. After 22hrs on a bus from Warsaw to Kyiv I'm certain that I could handle this.
You could, easy 😊
Julia is stunningly beautiful. She should be a model. Or maybe she is already. Nice vlog.
Hello guys, I gave this vlog a thumbs up! By the way, did this happen while during the pandemic? Or was this shot pre pandemic? If yes, So they have this service now? What do they require for protocols? Thanks and more power
You seem to be getting these carriages to yourselves on a regular basis, beginning to think you are frightening them away, keep doing what your doing, good health
Nice Video. Thanks for much information. Did you travel after the Corona Virus pandemic? I plan to take the Trans Siberian from Moscow to Beijing early next year. Are there any passenger restrictions or strict rules regarding the Corona Virus Pandemic?
Hi Phillips, yeah we travelled this January /February 2021. No real strict rules to be honest, apart from putting on a mask when moving around the cabin (which to be honest most passengers and staff didn't do). The rules in Russia are pretty relaxed to be honest, it's just getting into the country that is tricky right now. But all this above, is only on the Russian side, I would imagine things are a lot stricter in China re. Masks etc. but we didn't make it there.
I can feel this freezing cold outside the train right from my couch 😂🥶😶🌫️
Most beautiful video of a train journey i ever watched....well done you two
Thank you so much! 😀x
Привет из г. Топки!
What flavor was the lays chips laying on the table at 7:13 into the video ?
Very nice
Thank you very much ❤️
Cool!! Was it done during the Covid?
@@MattandJulia It's a pity that you weren't in Tyumen! Tyumen is the fastest growing metropolis in Russia. Tyumen thrives at its own expense and has the richest reserves of oil and gas, while the rest of Russia's cities are poor. And even the USA , the EU ...
Are the cups you use for your tea yours or the property of the train?
Greetings 👍
Hello 🤗
That's a little shorter distance than Amtrak's Seattle to Chicago 'Empire Builder' but much faster and less expensive for sure. No sleeping quarters for Amtrak 3rd class either.
Do you get a bit stir crazy on long train trips?
7:21 - Winter in the second degree (Зима зимой)
40 hours 3rd class in Russia with the attendant crowding, people issues and general not-that-nice feeling seems to mirror my 2 hours from Norwich to Liverpool Street. Only your scenery is far better :)
Hahaha, we can get that! Sounds like Southern Rail too 😂😂😂
Workers in contact with foreigners on the Trans-S have, since day one, about 1900, have needed to be fluent in English.
This video is great! I would like to travel alone around Russia and go by the Transiberian train and stop sometimes to visit some cities. How are russian cities and countryside? Is Russia safe? Do you think a girl can travel alone around Russia?
Glad you enjoyed it Rachele! Russia is safe yes, as long as you are a traveller who has their wits about them, and yes a girl can travel on her own 😊
@@MattandJulia thank you, your opinion is precious to me
I watched this video and had to put on 2 seaters and a coat
If in your future travels you go to Yakutsk you should reach out to Maria from the channel Life in Yakutia on UA-cam! She is such a sweet small UA-camr and she makes great videos about her culture ☺️
Hi Christine! We just checked Maria's channel out, really interesting 😍 Yakutsk is definitely somewhere we want to go in the future so we would definitely love to reach out to her 🥰
You are so funny. What were you doing in 5:59. It does not exist before and after. I wondered it.
Thank you 😊 We were just relaxing and laughing whilst riding the train ☺️ x
how much did the glass mugs cost it they are selling them?
We didn't check unfortunately, they were given out to passengers but you need to give them back when you get off the train.
Bless your hearts. I could never travel like that. I’m too spoiled. I need my privacy. Have you ever had anything stolen? It’s an incredible journey. Glad you enjoyed it. Stay safe.
Honestly, sometimes it's not as bad as it seems...also, sometimes it's a lot worse than it seems haha! We always try to keep everything important really close to us, so we can watch (I have some trust issues hahaha)
What is the booking site>
Next time go 1 or 2 class big difference!!!
I am getting too old to ever travel in a third class...
Haha, we felt like that after 40 hours 😁
se me antoja como para ronjar como un trailer con 80 toneladas de papa por la reumorosa XD y no dejar dormir a nadie con los ronquidos XD
+
Plz tell me u sprayed after toilet... lol jk mmm cudles love it guys
Hahahha 😂
Hello hello friend how are you
We are great thank you, you? 😊
Don't think I'll be booking any third class travel soon, lol...
thank you so much for your kind words! :) xx
Top bunk seem really bad, low head space unable to sit up straight. Laying down all the time.. What a bad design, they should get rid of the top luggage rack.
Looked interesting---for the first 36 seconds, and then two masked people appeared and destroyed the whole thing.
This was 2020, John. We had to wear them, or get fined 👍🏻
В России нет классов, есть плацкарт, купе и СВ. Остальное это уже желания самого перевозчика.
Но по цене отличается.. плацкарт- это самый дешевый (как 3 класс), купе - средней (2) и св, самый дорогой - де-факто, первый класс
