As a Pennsylvanian, Dean and Zach warm my heart so much. It's awesome to see them so excited about the geological history of the state and going out fossil hunting! Hey milo, just wanted to say I appreciate your channels, they give me something to look forward to, just hoping spring in Maine comes soon, to do some exploring of ancient cultures hidden in the Maine woods. Things that will rewrite history as we know it. 💯 Thanks again.
Maine reprisent! Tons of great history in these woods. Had a professor at UMO who was Abenaki and really opened my eyes to the history in this part of the world. If you are ever stumble across anything you want shared with the world shoot me an email! Would love to do some spelunking.

There are only a small number of caves catalogued in Maine for some reason, I don't think any are in southern Maine either yet. There's one behind my house and up in the woods, and I think it leads to an underground cave within the rolling hills. I also have a theory on a lot of the mounds in the woods. And I'm going to be exploring that as well to investigate. Our community isn't known for explorers doing this. So it's fresh territory It'd be an honor and privilege to do some spelunking with ya bro. 😇 I can guarantee you'll be apart of something truly historical. yeah smashing rocks is cool and all (i love it!!) but i got so happy seeing that your partner and you are very happy together 😭😭 the little segment where she promotes her artwork/hoodie is my favorite part of the video, yall are giggling like highschoolers fjsjdk please keep featuring her milo!!
It is so awesome to see guys half my age be so knowledgeable and excited about a subject. It really contrasts against the full on adults that push conspiracy BS and bad archeology.
When I was a teenager (some fifty-mumble years ago), my bio class went on a trip to New Paltz, New York, where we did some fossil collecting in a road cut. I found a gorgeous pyrite brachiopod over an inch across. I had no idea they were all that unusual. This was a wonderful episode!
It's awesome to see how knowledgeable that dude is at just 17. Their passion and enthusiasm is a bit infectious - makes me want to get a hammer and go find fossils! Really great video my friend, hope we get more fossil hunts in the future. I'd also really love to see you hunt for saphires, too!
I love Milo's hyper-focus on all his interests I love it so much. Combined with his love of talking and getting to know people he meets absolutely gives me great joy. Thank you for sharing your love of so much with all of us!
I love Dean's energy, so full of excitement and happiness to meet Milo and making friends. I love this kid! He is going places chasing his passion for fossils!
I absolutely love to see the combination of boys breaking rocks and simultaneously info dumping about their special interest. That kid is SO knowledgeable and I loved seeing Milo’s respect and excitement listening to him. Such a great video!
I started watching your channel because I found HILARIOUS how you treat the "conspiracy/main stream science is lying to us" etc, but now I'm kinda getting interested in fossils, besides the dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are freaking awesome.
Genuinely impressed and glad to see these young guys' passion, knowledge and intelligence. For 17 and 20 year-olds they are both incredibly good in front of the camera, and they also have the enthusiasm to communicate their extensive knowledge. I hope they have a great career, go to college or move towards science communication, because it seems they can do both very well.
I am absolutely interested in more content like this in the future. Meaning both fossil stuff and just bringing on people who know their stuff like these guys, regardless of the topic. It's fun to hear someone who clearly loves what they know and want to share it.
Your timing in publishing this video could not be better - I just took my 11yo nephew to the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, & they had some particularly beautiful examples of pyratized fossils on display, which captured his imagination. So being able to watch this video with him to see how people look for, dig, & the process to bring them out of the rock is fantastic. Thank you so much!!
Halfway through, I had a moment of realisation that I watch some insanely nerdy shit that would be boring for pretty much anyone I know. But also, I love it. You three seemed to have a really good time and I had a big grin all through the video. I'm happy for you, and thank you. Also, Milo, you and your girlfriend are cute together. Thank you for your great content, I like it!
I need more of these types of videos. Especially the process of revealing the fossil burried in the stone. I don't think I blinked once, I was so enthralled.
DUDE!!! My father in law (who is also a motorcycle guy) goes on searches for bediasite here in central Texas. He's also a USDA entomolologyst who basically created the central American screw worm iradication project. You guys would have INCREDIBLE conversations looking for meteorite rocks.
On a different note, is it possible to make molds? Seeing a big collection of fossils in one rock makes we want to do an imprint, but I know itd be insane to coat it in paint just for a piece of art
Only legends because you helped us throughout the way. I wouldn’t be nearly as good at prep if you didn’t provide me very special opportunities to improve my craft!
I can't begin to tell you how happy it makes me to watch three nerds having such fun!! The brain power of you hammer weilding young men is impressive. My three sons are exactly like you three. Watching you guys makes me want to rustle up some snacks or shout, "Turn it down!" across the house. Then texting TURN IT DOWN when they obviously can't hear. me. The youngest is 20, so they aren't together very often anymore, but what fun it is when they're all together again!
I love that you're so eager to learn and you listen and show so much respect to the other guys when they tell you what they know. Thank you for this fun look into digging up trilobites. Please never stop making your wonderful videos!
Absolutely loved it! As someone who picked up rockhounding as an adult hobby, I’m so happy to see how excited everyone is!! It’s such a fun peaceful outdoor activity, if you aren’t afraid of getting a bit dirty!
Milo is one of the few creators that diversified his content and I love everything. Like it's not a quality thing it's just a taste thing many of my favorite creators I only watch their niche that I initially followed or subscribed for, but with Milo everything is just so genuinely entertaining that I watch all of it
That was great You're forgetting one thing though: EYE PRO!! Seriously, you never think about the need for safety glasses til you get a rock chip in the eye., then you'll never forget it.
Milo, the visible delight of you, Dean, and Zach- and also the astounding familiarity the two of them had with these fossils- is great to witness. It's the sort of thing that really does inspire people into the sciences, and I think it's something that is incredibly important, because without good science communication then this kind of passion and dedication never gets passed down, and the public never understands why these kinds of jobs are so important. Good on all three of you for what you do.
If you cross into Canada at the Peace Bridge, there is a conservation area in a little village called Wainfleet, maybe 30-40 minutes down highway 3. It's a former limestone quarry, that limestone is absolutely full of coral, ammonites, trilobite fossils. The stuff is just everywhere. I swear every rock in that place has a fossil in it. Realistically, you could see that fossil bed and Niagara Falls in a single day with time for a pint and dinner. Food for thought.
This is SO COOL. I was going "ooh! ooh!" at least once a minute--what beautiful creatures, and the preservation of them is so amazing. I'm really impressed with Dean and Zach's expertise and wisdom--folks like them give me hope for the future!
I love the collaborations you do, Milo. These gents were so passionate I couldn't help but smile ear-to-ear the whole time, my face is a bit sore right now. Incredible work as always, hats off to you, and these talented, smart fellas. Will definitely check them out.
I love your content! Especially the debunking part. I was going through you videos, trying to see if you had anything on the water erosion idea on the Sphinx, but I couldn't find any mention of it. It would be interesting if hear your take on that idea, if you haven't do so already. Thanks!
Hey milo, about a week before i saw this video my mom gave me part of my grandfathers rock collection (i come from a family of geologists) and among the rocks i got i found a pyrite fossil. Its kinda big like about the size of the palm of my hand and its encased in mud. This video made me go find it again and remember my grampa thanks.
It's so funny to me how this guy has so much incredibly detailed knowledge about all these trilobites and can tell them all apart so easily, but has absolutely no clue what any of the plants are. And he's so young too! What a cool hobby to have developed so much while so young
It's utterly impossible not to see Dean's passion for fossils shining through in everything he does. After all, the true key to having the happiest and most fulfilling life possible is to find the things you're most passionate about and indulge in those things as often as you possibly can.
What an absolute joy it is to listen to a 17-year-old discuss intelligently and with a discernible love for what he's doing. I have many many years on him and he is already more intelligent than I will ever be.
Always good vibes to watch Milo. I’m quite ill at the moment, and being able to watch this while wrapped up and trying to not die is a real comfort. The enthusiasm and the knowledge and just… I love how the videos are fun and entertaining, but does not DEMAND you to know it all after watching. I don’t know how else to say it other than same vibe as Attenborough, but with more expressed enthusiasm. Like comfort. Knowledge passed on through kindness and enthusiasm.
I'm in OH, plenty of fossils to be found in the rocks near my house. Usually Plastocene plants and gem starts. There are possibly some fish fossils, but I haven't personally found one yet. Also lots of broken glass, etc. from a hundred+ years of the people in this small town throwing their crap down the ravine (even if we put up a 'no dumping' sign, they just throw the sign down there too). Occasionally find old cork medicine bottles that are in one piece, and even a glass bleach bottle.

The attention to detail, the relaxed and fun tone, and the Milo's charisma make me think that many more budding geologists/archeologists/heck a bunch of 'ologists will be inspired like Carl Sagan used to inspire the folks around my age!
Is it bad that I could tell just from the way he swears at the road that Milo has lived in New England for a significant portion of his life?
This stuff is amazing!
I live in Romania and, honestly, your videos got me interested in archeology and helped me discover all the marvelous things this land has to offer
I can't overstate how big my excitement was when, while on a roadtrip to Turkey, while sitting on a seaside rock, I stumbled upon a tiny shell fossil that I took home with me
Everytime I stumble over it in my room I have to rewatch your videos
Thank you for showing me how to properly apreciate our ancient past!
UA-cam, we need more young-ish history, science, etc.. channels with people being real and goofy while getting excited for their work. This was awesome. We have enough "professional" uptight people, more goofy ass relatable people
In Australia, They Found A Fossil Dinosaur Skeleton Made With OPAL!!! -During The Fossilization Process, Water With Very Fine Opal-Making Minerals Dripped From Cracks Above Onto The Dinosaur's Bones During The Fossil-Making Process, Mineralizing On The Bones And Thus Encasing Them In Gemstone!
Sounds beautiful
I know this content doesn’t do as well as some of his other videos, but I hope he keeps doing videos like this to break up the awful archeology. I wish his dark routes series did better, the production value was crazy
Yoo that 17 year old is wearing a SeaBase belt!! I’ve got the same one! It’s a BSA High Adventure camp in Florida where you go out on a wooden sailing vessel for days with your scout group and it was one of the most incredible trips of my life!
That caught my eye too! Never went (I was a Philmont kinda guy) but my friends that went were always rocking those belts.
@@sleepingbee8997 I was always rocking that belt cause we were allowed to integrate it into our Class A’s. Looking back I definitely thought it was so friggin cool lol.
I was supposed to go to Philmont as well, but instead I tore my ACL about 3 weeks before we were due to leave.
Had to scramble to find someone to replace me so we didn’t eat the whole cost, and my best friend ended up tenting with a rando from the next troop over instead of tenting with me as we always did on trips like that 😂
My Troop was so great about getting us on trips like that!
@@theinformationstation5328 Same same, I always wore my Philmont belt at any Scouting event.
Shame you missed Philmont! If you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend spending some time in the mountains in New Mexico.
My brother did that over winter! And he did Philmont too I think! It was his last boy scout trip he ever would do because he is in college now and a Eagle Scout.
He said that a few of the groups on the boats ran aground and one sunk and got damaged. He got lucky. I think that is the one he did
As a Pennsylvanian, Dean and Zach warm my heart so much. It's awesome to see them so excited about the geological history of the state and going out fossil hunting! Dean is 14 years younger than me and knows so much about the identity & significance of fossils. I hope he ends up going to school for it if that's the path he wants to take in life. (If he wants to hit up the University of Pittsburgh, I work there and the Carnegie Museums nearby have a great paleontology department!)
This takes me back to when I played in the old abandoned Quarrys in PA. Shale just everywhere for what seemed like miles, we'd play castle siege etc etc and the shale was the ultimate backdrop for battlegrounds. Thanks for the trip back Milo.
Me and my friends used to do the same thing and ride our dirt bikes in small shale quarries as kids. Sure we’re some fun times.
Dean Rocco, Zachary Fink …. Commendable work and exceptional knowledge base to the world millions of years ago, and the geological events that entombed creatures of all sizes. Great collaboration with Milo bringing science, facts, and life’s most curious lessons to reach and teach many.
John
Hey milo, just wanted to say I appreciate your channels, they give me something to look forward to, just hoping spring in Maine comes soon, to do some exploring of ancient cultures hidden in the Maine woods. Things that will rewrite history as we know it. 💯
Thanks again.
Maine reprisent! Tons of great history in these woods. Had a professor at UMO who was Abenaki and really opened my eyes to the history in this part of the world. If you are ever stumble across anything you want shared with the world shoot me an email! Would love to do some spelunking.
@@miniminuteman773 yessir, I love Maine history 😇 that's really cool about your professor 🌞(such a beautiful campus at umo) I'm Mi'kmaq, which is nova Scotia and surrounding areas, abenaki tribe knows some secrets in the Maine woods, Men that have lived a thousand lives 🙏🏼 their territory was so much bigger than mine lol. almost all of Maine I think.
So it's fresh territory
It'd be an honor and privilege to do some spelunking with ya bro. 😇
I can guarantee you'll be apart of something truly historical.
I get wheels on the road in a couple months too, so I'll actually have a good amount of info to email you. Including pictures of collapsed rock houses that are thousands of years old, now that I can get to them again.
I apologize for the rant. Lol
I love how much more comfortable the 17 year old got throughout the video. He’s very smart.
yeah smashing rocks is cool and all (i love it!!) but i got so happy seeing that your partner and you are very happy together 😭😭 the little segment where she promotes her artwork/hoodie is my favorite part of the video, yall are giggling like highschoolers fjsjdk please keep featuring her milo!!
Your interactions around 18:20 are so adorbs!
Chasing Ghosts is a pretty sick name for an arch/paleo/anthrop/etc channel 👏👏
17:55 an enjoyer of Bojangles? That just bumped you up from a 9/10 content creator, to an 11/10
Genuinely impressed and glad to see these young guys' passion, knowledge and intelligence.
This man went to Scranton Pennsylvania and didn't make an Office reference, absolute legend.
you and your partner have such a fun and healthy dynamic! I look forward to more really cool merch!
0:01 that doesn't look like a motorcycle
DUDE!!! My father in law (who is also a motorcycle guy) goes on searches for bediasite here in central Texas. He's also a USDA entomolologyst who basically created the central American screw worm iradication project. You guys would have INCREDIBLE conversations looking for meteorite rocks.
Oh my gods, her outfit is AMAZING. That aside, the fossil prep looks so satisfying. I could hyper fixate and do that for hours given the opportunity
On a different note, is it possible to make molds? Seeing a big collection of fossils in one rock makes we want to do an imprint, but I know itd be insane to coat it in paint just for a piece of art
the lovers hoodie segment is immaculate, your guys energy is great
Dean and Zach, legends of the East Coast. Hell digging boys!
Dude!! Do a colab with Forrest Valcai or The Renegade Science Teacher, show him your fossils and shit it is gonna be lit
I knew we had some neat fossils in PA, but this showed me I didn't know enough. That's so awesome.
I like your funky rocks, history man.
What a frickin cool couple a guys! What a fun time!! Just a few guys diggin around finding cool stuff. Wholesome af
Absolutely loved it! As someone who picked up rockhounding as an adult hobby, I’m so happy to see how excited everyone is!! It’s such a fun peaceful outdoor activity, if you aren’t afraid of getting a bit dirty!
Milo's rode rage is the most new england thing ever I love it
Milo is one of the few creators that diversified his content and I love everything. Like it's not a quality thing it's just a taste thing many of my favorite creators I only watch their niche that I initially followed or subscribed for, but with Milo everything is just so genuinely entertaining that I watch all of it
Absolutely love this channel. Im always on the edge of my seat waiting for the next upload! (Eta typo corrections)
That was great You're forgetting one thing though: EYE PRO!! Seriously, you never think about the need for safety glasses til you get a rock chip in the eye., then you'll never forget it.
I feel like it's people like you are what gives me confidence in humanity. Educational and badass don't usually go hand in hand.
0:33 remember: you pay for that cop’s equipment with your taxes, you bought that gun which means it’s yours and taking it isn’t a crime 👍
Milo what are your opinions on the geopolitical, socioeconomic and religious aspects of cheddar cheese?
Thanks!
Love this dude's energy.
These guys are simultaneously so like actually cool and funny and also such nerds I love them so much
It's so funny to me how this guy has so much incredibly detailed knowledge about all these trilobites and can tell them all apart so easily, but has absolutely no clue what any of the plants are. And he's so young too! What a cool hobby to have developed so much while so young
These guys were exceptional! You should definitely have them again sometime. You three were a great team and vibe together.
It's utterly impossible not to see Dean's passion for fossils shining through in everything he does. After all, the true key to having the happiest and most fulfilling life possible is to find the things you're most passionate about and indulge in those things as often as you possibly can.
Crazy hearing all these towns i grew up around, and knew nothing about this
What an absolute joy it is to listen to a 17-year-old discuss intelligently and with a discernible love for what he's doing. I have many many years on him and he is already more intelligent than I will ever be.
That kid is 17 and already so knowledgeable
Seeing a 17 year old so passionate about fossils, especially eurypterids is amazing to see!
This is the best type of “let’s watch a bunch of dudes hit rocks for a little while.”
I love this set up with the smashing and then discussing the various fossils from other areas. Also everyone sound very well versed in their stuff!
just 3 dude enthusiastically talkin about rocks, nothing more wholesome
Always good vibes to watch Milo. I’m quite ill at the moment, and being able to watch this while wrapped up and trying to not die is a real comfort. The enthusiasm and the knowledge and just… I love how the videos are fun and entertaining, but does not DEMAND you to know it all after watching. I don’t know how else to say it other than same vibe as Attenborough, but with more expressed enthusiasm. Like comfort. Knowledge passed on through kindness and enthusiasm.
I actually live right next to Hazelton and have loved your content and it made me really happy when you gave it a shout out lol
“Welcome to Chasing Ghosts’ Paleo Lab or The Shed in my backyard” caught me off guard. These guys are funny
This video really showcases the most important part of Archaeology: a bunch of Guys Bein Dudes
I think this is the first time I've seen you and your partner together Milo, and you guys have such great chemistry together.
Thanks for taking me along!
His theory of why there are enrolled on that site is interesting and amazing to hear from a 17 year old. 😮 amazing how passionate and knowledgeable he already is
I love the fact that its cold outside and you're cruising with your window cracked open.
