Nobody stealing the name. Several different areas have a dance called jookin. In fact, jook is another generic name for dancing. People in Miami, where the florida version originated, have had little to no contact with people in memphis pre-SM to be straling anything. Hell, I lived in memphis from 2010-2104 and never saw one person jookin. I literally just learned about Memphis jookin in the last year.
