Only one who beat our asses this bad was Ghaul, and that man was a simp for the Traveler. The Witness does NOT fuck around lol.
Got straight to the point in Lightfall.
Got to ball.
Ordered Disciple.
Waited patiently as Disciple got the thing.
Used the thing.
Entered ball.
Violated ball.
In the manner of technically a single DLC if most of Lightfall wasn't filler.

@@fallen5983That's a very fair point. Crota kicked the Guardians where it hurt in The Great Disaster. He's probably responsible for the most direct Guardian deaths in my understanding.
I guess my point is the Witness hit us HARD and FAST. As I said, it destroyed us within a single cutscene, and also ripped apart the Vanguard from within within 3 hours in-lore time (keep in mind that The Final Shape campaign was maybe only a day or a day and a half).
It’s crazy how much creepier the Witness sounds in Final Shape than in Lightfall

That's because the Witness *thinks* it has won, so it has that sense of confidence in what is says, and all it has to do is persuade the lightbearers that it's ideology is right
I love how you can audibly discern the angrier voices we hear in the raid behind the rest of the conglomerate
The voice actor(s) know EXACTLY how to convey the lure of the witness. In my study of hypnosis, methodical pauses when talking make people begin to listen in more and more, pulling the listener deeper and deeper into a trance. If you listen for long enough you will realize you begin to zone out into that trance-like state. It really shows how terrifying the witness is, with its hypnotic, cunning nature trying to pull the player and the characters to focus on its side. Because whatever you focus on becomes your reality.
The actor is Brett Dalton (also played in Agents of SHIELD and Until Dawn)! Bungie's sound team did an excellent job editing his voice to make it sound like multiple different voices!
Also thank you for this explanation, I thought the Witness's voice sounded hypnotizing, but I didn't realize it was an actual method used in hypnosis! Very clever.
UPDATE: Oh I just remembered, in one of the physical lorebooks (Chronicles, I think) the lore does actually mention the Witness corrupting Dark Timeline Ana Bray, specifically using the phrase "hypnotizing its way into [her] mind" to lull her into a trance-like state, so the Witness using hypnosis is canon.

The Witness is itself a veil, a cage, a box/cube/triangle/sphere/cylinder containing the masses within who 2/3rds of DID NOT want to become Witness. Most of their dialogue can be recontextualized to be almost reflective of the First Knife / Witness proper.
Witness had always been able to kill us; they just preferred to be objective-oriented. Why else did they skip everything and everyone along their narrow path?
To that end, if given enough delays and encouragement, the Dissenters could have found a way. Even now that the Witness has been unwoven, they will take on numerous new shapes, and multiples of it will exist, exhibiting new and opposing agendas, emulating the tale of three kingdoms ruled by queens.
The Witness' voice is like a masterclass in sound design.

13:13 after everything in the campaign it felt like the witness was invisible, i know it sounds twisted to say this but it was so satisfying hearing this, also hat of to the va you can really hear the pian in it voice, sent chills down my spine.
I can't explain why, but I get absolutely terrified looking at the Witness up-close.
I think it's the eyes. They look human, but not.
Fun fact: The witness is voiced by the same guy who played Freyr in God of War Ragnarok

@@JosiahKeesling-qj2ef I don't think so, there's plenty of videos showcasing just the SFX, removing the music and dialogue from them. I don't see why they cant just remover everything else and keep the dialogue.
