Since he started doing his "prediction" of toothpaste (ketchup) before the reveals we can say that the trick requires toothpaste (ketchup) so the card is likely forced, maybe you hand him the bottom card instead of the selected card. Hide the toothpaste (ketchup) is misdirection for the salt switch which happens in the same place, and the card "selection" for that was a painfully blatant force.

Ketchup is a table condiment or sauce. The unmodified term ("ketchup") now typically refers to tomato ketchup, although original recipes used egg whites, mushrooms, oysters, grapes, mussels, or walnuts, among other ingredients
The word ketchup comes from the Malay word "Kecap" (meaning Soy Source) and refers to a dark coloured condiment. Ketchup was historically made with mushrooms (call Mushroom Ketchup today), and was primarily used in fish dishes. Mushroom Ketchup dates back to 1742, but there is many others Walnut Ketchup being another old and popular one. It was first in 1817 Tomato Ketchup (called Catsup) became a thing (still primarily used in fish dishes).
Really? Because I thought the etymology was from Chinese. I can't write it, but it does sounds like "ke-chap" where "ke" is the second half of the word tomato, while "chap" means sauce or gravy. I feel like it was really simple: he just swapped under the table: @ 4:58 his hand dips below the table to swap the tooth paste tube for one with ketchup in it and @ 5:34 he dips his hand back under the table to switch it for salt - and probably didn't give her a free choice the 2nd time.
Something that really stood out to me on first watching was that after giving Not-Penn his card, he reveals the next one and it says "Bread" but I spotted "Bread" at the start when he was showing the deck face up and it didn't look that close to the top. Maybe it's just deceptive how many cards he went through, but it really seemed to me like there were two "Bread" cards in the deck or the order changed between when he showed it face up and when he dealt it. If this is part of the trick then I think its a shame he showed the same card twice, would have been better if he hadn't.
Random fact about the Stones' "Satisfaction"... It was written by Mick having a pocket tape recorder recording in his pocket as he was blackout wasted and his ramblings about not feeling "Satisfied"... He checked the recording the next day and BOOM... a legendary song was born...

Ketchup is a Bahasa Malay word meaning spicy sauce. In Britain, they made ketchup out of all sorts of ingredients including tomatoes. Technically Worcestershire Sauce is also a type of ketchup. The name came from the colonial era when Malaya was occupied by the British.
Enjoyed your quick magic show for those with ADHD. British guy: smooth moves. Proves it’s best to make haste when dealing with tomato paste. Aesop: the snake was wise to realize the anger in the farmer’s eyes. Hmmm...that could be the start of a song. Maybe you could complete it & perform it (that would give me SATISFACTION)
I think that the first half of the trick he was dealing the second card from the deck and the card he needed was the top card. The second half was the opposite, he was dealing from the bottom but the second card up, and the card he needed was at the bottom. Once the ingredients were forced he just needed to have one tube with each and do a switch.

Hello Jason, I always hit the like button because YoU always get me to smile and laugh. I may be mistaken but there was a book and column writer I think that wrote for newspapers named Erma Bombeck, that came up with this amusing way of naming people like this. And this magician Lewis Starnes is "borrowing" this naming thing to be cute and funny. It is also a way to throw off a person for a moment. Lewis I believe had two three different tubes of toothpaste. One for toothpaste, one for Ketchup and one for salt. How he distracted and palmed them I have no idea. But that salt was very dry and clean so I say no membrane. I think in the Fable the snake was wise after the fact of hurting the child. I think you understood the fable well .... but if that was me I would wait some days until that bad old snake forgot and then WACK he would be Snake toast. LOL
Ít wasn't a too difficult trick to figure out, the move for the first card selection was performed pretty well, but the way he handed down the card confirmed there was a force happening. The second card was very obvious and I don't understand how there are people who don't see that when it's done to them, unless they are drunk
Jason, there are various ketchup(es), fruit ketchup is quite a popular one. Nowhere close to tomato ketchup but yeah.. And in the UK, the original ketchup recipe was made with mushrooms instead of tomatoes for over 100 years prior to 1850. Any magician of 150 year old and above should remember the taste and color.

Ok, I'll bite. One of my favorite computer games growing up was the secret of monkey island. As I was writing this I just heard you say that exact same game(DOH!). You should check out Thimbleweed Park. It's a modern game in the same style. I'll add I was also a fan of multiple apogee games (commander keen and monster bash) and there was this game I played but never quite beat called "heart of china". I think I found that one in a bargain bin.
For the second card selection, he should have done "2nd dealing" or he should have waited for a while before showing the card and maybe people would have forgotten or done some sort of force-shuffle to put the card he wants to show, where he wants it.
I'll chime in on ketchup. Everyone knows what you mean if you just say ketchup but we'd normally call it tomato ketchup. And some call it tomato sauce but they're WRONG. Tomato sauce is what baked beans come in. There are other types of ketchup though, and beetroot ketchup is surprisingly delicious.
The top card and every other card had Tomato Ketchup on it. Had he said stop 1 card either way, he would have picked up the card just put down. At 5:30, the tube goes out of sight where it can be swapped. From then on, it is a tube of salt. Salt was on the bottom of the deck all the time for the 2nd half. He was drawing cards from the top. Simple always looks good.
Hey man, great video as always! I found this about tomato ketchup: "'Ketchup' now typically refers to tomato ketchup, although original recipes used egg whites, mushrooms, oysters, grapes, mussels, or walnuts, among other ingredients." One of my favourite old games also is The Secret of Monkey Island, along with The Curse of Monkey Island, that's really cool! I am a big fan of the Tomb Raider games as well!
Acording to Wikipedia, tomato ketchup is the Johnny-come-lately in the ketchup world. Ketchup was originally made with mushrooms. Maybe that's why. "Two countries divided by a common language" still holds true.
Re: ketchup or catsup. Origin of ketchup is from Indonesia via the Netherlands, called ketjyap, which is made out of red peppers and brown sugar. Tomatoes would be a new world item.
This trick is kinda rare one to me. I was left yearning one more round. Something liquid like orange juice or something. Also tomato ketchup is not same as ketchup but it is so popular so people just make it short. Checked brands on my country and almost all of them says tomato ketchup even tho every one speaks about just ketchup.

Yeah, the second one, the "shuffle" for salt. was pretty sad. As for ketchup, we have a few kinds in India. Tomato is the plain one. Then we have tomato chili ketchup and hot-and-sweet ketchup.
My favorite video game as a kid was Willy Beamish. Here in Sweden we tend to say _tomat ketchup_ or just ketchup. But I dont know if there is any other kind of ketchup. All the other simular stuff is either different ķinds mayo or dressing.

So for the first part of the trick there were "35 items last bought" when shopping. I think he mistakenly showed too many examples at the beginning as "bread" was the 10th card from the bottom, and was also the "5th card" from the top. I think after OJ we all like Red Bread, Red Bread, Red Bread.
I used to design levels my own custom maps for Doom II. And played Duke Nukem 3D quite a bit too :) It's time to kick @$$ and chew bubble gum.... and I'm all out of bubble gum 😆

It's simple, they say Tomato Ketchup because that's the whole name. They do stuff like that there in England where they say the while name. Look at any bottle of ketchup in America and it says on it "Tomato Ketchup" Although I am sure it started because there were other types more common back in the day.
There are many types of Ketchup. Townsends did a video on making Mushroom Ketchup. Apparently Walnut Ketchup used to be popular. I swear I've heard of Anchovy Ketchup. The word Ketchup used to just mean sauce.
There’s banana ketchup in the Philippines. But I would assume that since most,if not all, ketchup are made with tomatoes. The one thing I question today is what is the difference between catsup and and ketchup. 😂
Don't like ketchup, but at the store this morning I noticed every brand was labeled Tomato Ketchup or Tomato Catsup. I wouldn't have looked had it not been for this video. 😂
Aside from monkey island... Doom 2, Duke Nukem, Mario, Quake, Zelda, old Final Fantasties, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Bad Lands, Star Fox, Smash Bros .... the list goes on :)
@@Blondie42 Brown sauce is essentially what we would call "steak sauce". Coincidentally enough, I actually had occasion to look this up once. The well-known (in America) brand A-1 Steak Sauce, was actually invented in England, and served to King George the Fifth or the Sixth (I forgot which). His Majesty was asked how he liked it, and he said it was "A-One!" So they named it that. Over the years, the company that made it moved to America, and today, it's not at all well-known in England. This came up one in an online puzzle where the clue was "Steak sauce" and the answer was "A-One", but none of the Brits had ever heard of A-1 Steak Sauce.

"'Ketchup' now typically refers to tomato ketchup, although original recipes used egg whites, mushrooms, oysters, grapes, mussels, or walnuts, among other ingredients."
One of my favourite old games also is The Secret of Monkey Island, along with The Curse of Monkey Island, that's really cool! I am a big fan of the Tomb Raider games as well!
My favorite game is Age of Empires 2. Can't think of a better game from childhood or adulthood. The Witcher 3 and Skyrim are my second and third.
Acording to Wikipedia, tomato ketchup is the Johnny-come-lately in the ketchup world. Ketchup was originally made with mushrooms. Maybe that's why.
"Two countries divided by a common language" still holds true.
One of my absolute favourite games of all time was Morrowind.
Jason, are you ever going to be in Penn and Teller?
Re: ketchup or catsup. Origin of ketchup is from Indonesia via the Netherlands, called ketjyap, which is made out of red peppers and brown sugar. Tomatoes would be a new world item.
This trick is kinda rare one to me. I was left yearning one more round. Something liquid like orange juice or something.
Also tomato ketchup is not same as ketchup but it is so popular so people just make it short. Checked brands on my country and almost all of them says tomato ketchup even tho every one speaks about just ketchup.

I can recommend the Banana Ketchup from Sinclair Ltd.
About that Ketchup thing, I know here in Canada, fruit ketchup exists. So that might be another part of the answer.
😯
In the UK theres also Walnut, mango ketchup...
I wish he would've said, " and frankly a person who looks exactly like teller" I would've laughed really hard, but the girl might not have liked the joke lol.
I don't see how the last card selection could have fooled anyone.
yeah it was cheesey
In the Caribbean we have banana ketchup. Its yellow and taste the same but a bit sweeter
Jason: one of my favorite games "the secret of monkey island"
Me: En garde! Touché!
Jason: Oh, that is so cliché!
Me: *drops sword* i surrender i surrender
I did like the presentation verry well, this one actually comes out better in the pub as on the big stage.
Here in Brazil, we also have Guava Ketchup.
My first computer game was Dungeons and Dragons Secret of the Silver Blades, but the one I most remember playing was Doom II and Duke Nukem 3D
I used to design levels my own custom maps for Doom II. And played Duke Nukem 3D quite a bit too :) It's time to kick @$$ and chew bubble gum.... and I'm all out of bubble gum 😆
There are lots of types of ketchup, it's just that tomato ketchup has become the most popular by far. Fish ketchup used to be a big thing
Potato ketchup made me LOL! Also as a kid I used to love to play "Gizmos & Gadgets" "Oregan Trail" "Roller coaster tycoon" and I played this barbie makeover game I loved as a little girl lol!
Banana Ketchup - Filipino here!!
Love your videos!!!
It's simple, they say Tomato Ketchup because that's the whole name. They do stuff like that there in England where they say the while name. Look at any bottle of ketchup in America and it says on it "Tomato Ketchup"
Although I am sure it started because there were other types more common back in the day.
There are many types of Ketchup. Townsends did a video on making Mushroom Ketchup. Apparently Walnut Ketchup used to be popular. I swear I've heard of Anchovy Ketchup.
The word Ketchup used to just mean sauce.
ZX Spectrum game called Manic Miner, does ANYBODY remember it?
ZX Spectrum games were awesome except for the screech whilst loading from the tape - Daley Thompson decathlon!! : )
There’s banana ketchup in the Philippines. But I would assume that since most,if not all, ketchup are made with tomatoes.
The one thing I question today is what is the difference between catsup and and ketchup. 😂
You were as entertaining as the magic Jason - Enjoyed this
Don't like ketchup, but at the store this morning I noticed every brand was labeled Tomato Ketchup or Tomato Catsup. I wouldn't have looked had it not been for this video. 😂
Favorite computer game is actually ncaa football 98
Favorite ketchup is Whataburger Spicy Ketchup.
What games did you used to play Jason?
Aside from monkey island... Doom 2, Duke Nukem, Mario, Quake, Zelda, old Final Fantasties, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Bad Lands, Star Fox, Smash Bros .... the list goes on :)
Growing up, my mother would make a relish like concoction and call it ketchup.
We usually just say “Tomato Sauce” because we also have Brown (or HP) Sauce; which is the equivalent to the American Steak (or A1) Sauce 😁
Except that HP Sauce is much better.
@@RealitysSuccessor very much agreed!! 👍🏻 Bacon butties and pork pies all made better with brown sauce!
I am from South Africa and my family has always called it tomato sauce🤷🏻♀️
we (UK) call it "tomato sauce" we also have "brown sauce"
Is that soy sauce? Or just a different kind of ketchup?
Just curious 🤔
@@PhilBagels fascinating, than you very much.
