  • I made a micro comb for opening up wool locks. If one made two of them you could use them as normal combs. They are strong and cheap to make. Break one and you just make a new one. Quick and easy if you have some wood and small drill and a box of finishing nails. I used 3" hot dipped galvanized finishing nails without sharpening the tips. Tips are sharp enough for the job at hand. So if you don't have the budget to purchase those expensive combs you can make your own. They don't hold as much but they do get the job done. A drill press is good but a hand drill and steady hand is all you need. Simple and effective for any budget.

A gal mentioned in one of my posts about this that she did the same thing but used an old wood handled paint brush. She actually used two new ones she picked up at the dollar store then removed the metal band and brushes leaving the wood handle. The brush end is wide so you can make a dual or even triple row fine comb for your fibers. That will be my next project. I will also make a coarse single row one for my flax seed ripple so I can either hand hold or mount on a board then run my flax through the comb to remove the seed. The double or triple row won't work for that but a single row will.
