That is the best intro for a female performer I have ever seen. Angel not only can write and perform great songs, she can also rock the the sun suit and sunglasses.
I like them, but I don't know that she needed to have her levels upped as much as she did during the first song. She sometimes overpowers Angel's vocals.
Albin Lundholm love the back up vocals. She helped make this one of Angel Olsen best concerts in my opinion. Have watched this concert 100 times or more❤️❤️❤️
Half way through it I'm already amazed so psychedelic and personal great lyrics and band perfect energy thanks pitchfork! She's very beautiful by the way
I understand why some people don't super lean into the performance aspect because they're shy or whatever, but people definitely notice when you're engaged and put on a show. It's way more interesting.
New to me artist but better late than never. Only to describe what's so hard to, at different points, she reminded me of Mazzy, the Bangles, Bjork, the B-52's, Joni and yea Stevie Nicks too.
I envy the back up singer who gets to jam it live with Angel and duo chore in "SISTER". It is literally my fav song in 2017 and she gets to live it. #HIPSTERJEALOUSTOTHEMAX!!!
00:42 - High and Wild 06:04 - Shut Up Kiss Me 09:34 - Give It Up 13:44 - Not Gonna Kill You 21:40 - Acrobat 31:10 - Sister 40:15 - Those Were The Days 45:25 - Woman
The girl singing with her is really impressive. They sound amazing, just found out about them and well now new songs will be added to my liked music on spotify tonight 👏
I know ! Her name is Heather Mcentire (pretty sure that’s how she spells it) and she’s not with the band anymore. Sadly. Hopefully it was an amicable change. They sounded amazing together - their harmonies! - and their energy together was smashing as well. Heather has done quite a bit on her own (since?) but I’ve done some sleuthing and I haven’t found anything as high energy as this. More folk-ish , but nice. The backup I last saw her with has a great voice too. Talented keyboardist. But if I ever have the opportunity to see them live it would’ve been fantastic to see them with Ms Mcentire.
Jefferson Airplane, that Marc Bolan vocal quiver, Nirvana, Souixsie and the Banshies, those cheap Residents tuxes, Roy Orbison, Edith Piaff, Hayden/Beck - just beautiful! And the band is just getting better and better breaking out creatively, can't wait to see what comes next!
Yes. And also Roy Orbison, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Daniel Johnston, Fleetwood Mac, Patsy Cline, the Everly Brothers, Nina Simone, and Buddy Holly. Angel's timeless music already belongs in the pantheon of these greats.
Nathan Baker - I know, and some of the things she does with her voice I just go Gaah?!?! never heard anything like that before. I think she is going to break out into the mainstream very soon, she's gonna be Yuge. Her songwriting is great, her vocals are simply amazing, she's got a great band, sense of humour and a natural beauty she's the most interesting thing going on in music today. Got it all. Hey I got the Roy Orbison influence too. Maybe we should start a fan club lol.
Nathan Baker Daniel Johnston? why does he always get sited as an influence when music sounds in any way lo fi? this music has nothing to do with Daniel’s.
Apart from my absolute admiration for the wonderful artist and woman that is Angel Olsen, I'm really digging how the whole band brings a more psych-infused sound to these songs (esp. on High and WIld). And that version of Acrobat was breathtaking. This is a really good set, great mix and camera work too.
This is the difference between real music and unreal music videos...it's where the real deal comes alive! She is just an amazing performer and guitar player! The whole band is amazing! Met them some years ago after a gig in Munich's Ampere, and that night is forever tattooed in my soul. Without any doubt one of the greatest artists of our time! Rock On!
The band sounded so damn good here ...they've gotten better since the beginning of the tour (not that they were bad before they just seem 'tighter' or whatever). Also I dig Angel's foxy gay swagger sexy times vibes with the Annie Clark mic molesting and guitar diddling and that breathing thing. Can't wait to see her this October for the 4th time this tour lmao 💦
Unlike 99.9% of people who listen to this, I am 64 yrs old. Heard of her the 1st time today. I must say I like the music but have a hard time understanding her. Style reminds me of 68' Jefferson Airplane lol
You would be surprised, I've read comments of people your age. I think you must like her because of her folky songs, records as Half Way Home or songs like Unfucktheworld, Iota... Even her loudest songs are moderate rock and have a somewhat vintage sound, so it makes sense. I also have a hard time understanding her: she evolved from a folky and calm style to a rockstar one at her thirties.
Hey, we're all the same age only born at different times! I'm in my lm in my late 50s and I listened to her music all through my heart surgery and stroke recovery......she soothed this old dog!
Personally I hate it, the "explosion" was cool but the rest was exceedingly messy and the "little laughs" were exaggerated also. I prefer the live version, and I think it would have been great to play it as a slow and calm song in between the more electric ones, but well, that's my opinion.
My love for Angel is deep..wow, what an amazing artist.. just saw her do a solo show in Ojai CA, just a guitar and an amp and her beautiful voice.. mesmerizing..in my top shows of my lifetime..
'crimson & clover over and over' @ 33:00 something or other on 'Sister' gotta love Angel Olsen and this band especially -no matter what naysayers say, back-up singer & all, this Band altogether, perform a magical musical experience Excellent to listen to THANK YOU for sharing with All of Us ! please don't stop but still ( maybe 'cause I'm older ) am hearing ' Crimson & Clover Over & Over' big time vibes. The back-up vocals definitely add something and everyone complaining about her is wrong
I like them, but I don't know that she needed to have her levels upped as much as she did during the first song. She sometimes overpowers Angel's vocals.
If I ever have a band, the back-up vocals better rock that hard.

Correct!
Unsurprisingly, this is awesome. Angel seems to have the Midas touch. Everything she touches turns to gold.
she can do whatever she wants with her voice and i think that's beautiful

I keep coming back to this version of Acrobat, it’s just so hypnotizing and sensual, it channels the lyrics in a way that blows me away to this day

'My Woman' a modern classic
