    So, design as a sort of mental/ emotional cue to gain perspective when looking back, perhaps? Ingenious!
    I like the idea of teaming colors with needs of the people, so that necessities could be instinctively be brought to them in crisis. This could lead to liberation of entire societies.

    What I said about the phone was not to highlight what people would steal, rather, the difference between a "want" and a "need".

    Just to add... his ideas are about creating a constantly emerging and improving society ...Utopia is a fantasy 'perfect' society that doesn't need to be improved or changed.

    I wonder what do people who can't see design in every man-made artefact think... these things just invented themselves? I take the point though. Many people just don't give it much thought, conflating design with styling... the iPhone generation, perhaps?

    What happens if the distributors decide they need a bigger share of necessities, and they refuse to work? Who then would fill in to get me my much-needed i-phone (I happen to need several, I wouldn't want to be short come the end of the world)

    What? She does...more toward the ayn rand end with her look--but she carries forward with a whimsical charisma and a certain wide-eyed curiosity that she could have only picked up from eddy.

    "Hello world"? A term originating from the telecommunication/computing world?

    and ?...so what does the difference between a want and a need explain then?

    I've watched many of his videos, in fact I use to be a fan :) But I then read The Blank Slate by Steven Pinker, and it changed my mind. It is 'utopian' in a different sense. I know he is all for improving the world, which is what I love about him. But some of the stuff he says, like his idea of "if we create a resource based economy, then we won't need prisons" .. now seems silly to me. No matter how much money people have, there will always be some that would steal some more.

    People "want" not only because they "need". I want an iPhone, I don't "need" an iPhone. And to answer your question. Think back to the days when we were hunter gatherers, what did people steal from each other then? It would be a similar concept within a resource based economy.

    Anyone who is interested in design and society should look up Jacque Fresco and study his way of thinking.

    RBE says it will solve all problems by predicting and supplying for needs, but most purchases are based on wants rather than needs, i.e. stuff we can do without, and will only use temporarily; if there are no ways to make, sell, and buy these things, then a lot of people may be unhappy. Humans just aren't needs-based but also want-based, and other than lobotomizing the masses there is not much way to change that; and I view mass lobotomy as bad hence RBE as incomplete at best.

    There is no explanation of what people would be 'stealing' from each other in an RBE in your answer. I can't even make any sense out of it in relation to an RBE. When it comes to a Phone ..if you 'want' a phone in an RBE you would go to the distribution center and pick up a phone. Nothing or no reason to 'steal' in that example.

    Seriously, you say you have looked into the Resource Based Economy idea ..and yet you keep showing you have absolutely no understanding whatsoever of what it's about or how it would work. What exactly are the resources people would steal from each other if everyone has access to all they need? Please explain.

  • @peterjol
    @peterjol 11 років тому

    Sorry but if you have watched his videos then you can't have understood much. There would be no 'money' in a Resource based economic system and without the ideology of 'money' it would be impossible for anyone to steal anything in the way of resources regardless of greed.

    It's nothing at all to do with creating a Utopia, you can't have bothered to look into his ideas much or you would understand that and not even make such a statement.
