Great teaching style - really appreciate the good explanations of what it takes to get a nice sounding blues riff sounding right.
Ive been playing guitar for a year now and only got into bluegrass since a few weeks, and i love it! You are a great teacher. You are very calm and take everything step by step wich makes it easier to learn! Thanks alot.
I have been playing guitar for 20 years, playing bars and clubs since I was 21yrs old...and Bluegrass is my new passion and boy is it a different approach. Your patience and calm explanations are much appreciated...I will be using your videos often...Thank You!

Eric just found you vids. Thanks for the lessons. These licks are very useful. I'm working them into a lot of the tunes I play, along with ones I know, it gives me a good variety.
Thank you.
Great lessons! You describe things so perfectly clear and are helping me progress by leaps and bounds in my lead bluegrass guitar playing. Thanks so much!
Nicely done. Very helpful!
Brilliant instructional video, absolutely brilliant.
Hey man, thank you so much for what you're doing. This is fantastic. Sending good vibes from Los Angeles!
These are the best lessons I've found for starting bluegrass, they've really helped me get going, thanks for taking the time to do it.
Dude!! Great Job. Nice way to break it down and teach. I can tell you're an excellent guitar instructor. Keep up the good work. Nice vocals too.
Fantastic lesson find for sure so fun to work these blue grass picking techniques into everything you play.
You break things down so they are easy to understand. Excellent teacher. Thank you!
Hey there and thank you for the time you spent to break this down. Easy to follow and sound really cool. Thank you!
Thanks for posting this. It's helped a lot!
Came across this video by accident, but thought I would listen and watch anyway. It was very interesting and patiently taught, so I 'liked' it and subscribed. :-)

Man I remember listening to this when I first picked up the guitar,I found this video after learning my basic chords from my cousin who was much much older than me . Like another grandfather to me. Man the memories playing all the local places... if only time could go backwards lol. Hope your still keeping it up,God bless
Definitely still keeping it up. Just focusing more on my electric guitar playing right now.
Did you know that I've been creating TABS for many of my most popular videos, including this one? Check out my official TABS page here: www.bluegrassguitaressentials.com/tabs
Love this, thank you!
Like this lesson Eric= really helping me coordinate my pull offs and synching with the strumming. The more I hear bluegrass the more hooked I am getting...really makes even a cheap acoustic sound sweeter and fuller. Thanks Eric. -Dave
Well done, this is a big help for me. Thanks
Great video, thanks!
Great lesson. You make things very easy to follow.
Awesome man. You are a great teacher! Thank you.
very nice and easy lesson to follow thanks for sharing your the man
Brilliant. Cool and simple licks that have made my playing instantly better (and led me to discover other things) taught really well in a simple easy to follow way by a cool human. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MY FRIEND! :)
"...a cool human..." Awesome! Thanks!
I have with age widened my listen/like guitar ear and bluegrass sounds so natural and melodic. Your filler licks between chord changes here are so effective that I'm wanning to learn it.
Thanks man from Dan in London.
These are great. Thank you
Eric -Thanks very much for this tip about pull-offs and rest strokes. I've been playing for 40 years and this is one of the nicest things I've learned in recent years. I'll start looking for your other videos now. Best wishes and thanks again - from a Brit this time!
Thanks so much, John, for your kind words. I learned about rest strokes from Bryan Sutton. I had been doing them myself for a while but never really knew what they were called or that they were a technique all their own, lol! I'm glad the video helped you. It just goes to show you can never learn it all on guitar! :)
Eric Beaty you deliver the goods! What an awesome teacher. Greetings from the Gold Coast Qld Australia
Thank you for opening the door to blue grass for me. I've been working on a kind of folk rock style for a while that draws on a lot of different influences incuding some celtic. Bluegrass seems like the final piece of the puzzle for me
.
Great job you are a great teacher. Most videos try to show you how good they are its so fast you can not learn anything. You are very detailed and patient Thanks so much for teaching and not showing off.
Many thanks. Top tips!
Great lesson. Thanks!

Hi there. I'm in Dudley, England but love Bluegrass and Blues. Just found this video and I love how you explain it so well that even I can have a go at playing it. Thanks...Freda
Nice vid.
Im a rock/pentatonic style player who's been looking at bluegrass and country stuff for awhile now. Ive picked up a little here and there, but this is the kind of nuts and bolts stuff that you need to be consistent and grow as a player.
Thanks for posting. Ive subscribed.
tnx 4 sharing! its great the way u show us how a lick is actually used. i mean, most youtube vids' offer a ton of licks, but i don't kno how to use them (i'am new) i have been able to use these licks in my songs cuz u show us how to use them. i only recently discover how much fun it is to flatpick... and now i can't get enuf :)
thanks! you a great teacher.
So thankful I found this. You are so patient and keep the cookies on the bottom shelf for us slow learners! God bless you.
+rtgray7 Nice image :)
Brand new bluegrass player. Thanks for breaking it down for a newbie.
Awsome man, love from UK
Eric, I just discovered your web site while searching for bluegrass guitar. I also watched the introductory
video. As a result, I learned quite a bit in just a few short minutes. Thanks!
Awesome. You should totally check out my courses over at www.ericbeaty.com/courses. This video is actually a part of the "Beginner Bluegrass Guitar" course.
Great lesson, Thanks for your time...
Thanks very much! I was looking for how to give my playing a bluegrass sound, and this video was extremely helpful.
+Chris Blake Glad to help.
Nice info. Not hard to do, but really embellishes the tune.
I had to stop in the middle of this to thank you for such excellent instruction. Fantastic. Really. Chuck D Seattle
So awesome! Thanks a lot. :)
Thanks man, that helped
very basic, yet very helpful video. I'm a drummer who has been playing guitar for years...with no lessons, I especially just like playing chords and E-major blues on my acoustic. I find the licks you show in this video to be very useful, especially someone like myself who loves bluegrass/folk/blues guitar. Having heard these licks a bunch of times, it great to finally have them in my arsenal. Your 9 minute video has forever changed the way I play guitar. gunna be using that one a lot....
I like how you show what not to do as well as what to do so people know they are doing it wrong
very good, thanks!
Thank you for your great videos. You are a kind and altruistic person to share these great ideas. Best regards from the UK
Thanks, Jason, for the kind words. Wow, altruistic, I'm very honored to hear this.
nice lesson man. thanks. Greeting from Bristow, VA

That's what it's all about, Zach! Thanks for the shout out.
I can't believe I just now stumbled upon your channel. Awesome lesson, brother! You explain things in an easy to understand way and are cool and laid back. I dig it! Thanks a lot, man! Take care.
