- Liverpool suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final at Anfield.
Two goals from Gianluca Scamacca and a late strike from Mario Pašalic condemned the Reds to a hefty loss, as Jürgen Klopp's side failed to provide a positive response to last weekend's disappointing draw at Old Trafford.
Liverpool must now climb a mountain if they are to keep alive their hopes of progress towards next month's final in Dublin. - Спорт

There's literally been NO defensive structure all season, conceding so many chances every game was always gonna eventually catch up with us! It also heaps pressure on the forwards because they know they have to score 2 or3 every game because we simply can't keep a clean sheet and that's why their missing chances even though we are still 2nd highest scorers in the league.

I say this admittedly as a non Liverpool fan but, he ain't that guy.
He'll score some goals cuz he's a decent player, but he ain't Liverpool standard imo
What upsets me most is that in the space of 2 games we’ve managed to lose control of our destiny twice! We now face the prospect of ending the season with the most minor trophy
Klopp is counting the days to his retirement
I wish for 2 things next year:
1. A high quality CB to partner VVD (Konate misses too many games & like today, has lapses in concentration)
2. A top goal scorer up front
Gomez, Matip, Tsimikas, Endo, Gakpo, Diaz, Nunez = we should consider any incoming bids
Szobo & Gravenberch = need a big improvement from both or cut losses next summer
They will need two centre backs if they play 3 at the back next year

Didn't really know what to expect going into this, but certainly didn't expect this result. Really shocking. Don't like the fact that in the space of a month we've been knocked out the cup, lost the advantage in the league and now possibly (probably) knocked out of the EL. Not good.

No joke. Exhausted the first squad against Sparta Praha in a match where the academy players could have got a draw. Now, we're going to have players making desperate on-field decisions trying to get to through to the next round. I only hope we get through the next week without any injuries.

Getting embarrassed at Anfield is unacceptable. We got we deserved. That was the least inspired side I can remember in years. I think the mood is finally showing in our play with the announcement of Klopp leaving.
Nunez, Salah, Gakpo, Diaz and Szobo just not been delivering the goods lately. Terrible performance from pretty much the whole team. Just awful tonight.

Arsenal away and basically all games this past month
We need to find a new way to play. As ancelotti said we are easy to play against. We have no real control of games. Other than having sterile possession. We do not have a very fit team. We have at most one good half in us. Kelleher is good but he's not an Allison becker. So problems start from the back and go through the team.
As for needing a new way to play this is going to be possible because klopps leaving ,when I first heard klopp was leaving I was devastated however the more I watched this team over the last few months the man united games , playing against arsenal,man city the way we have to fight life and death against teams like Sheffield United Brighton Fulham etc the way we defend the way we play football I'm looking forward to change his style of football has run it's course we are better than that . Hopefully Ruben amorim comes in and gets us defending properly and playing better ball .
Something stinks around the place and has for a few weeks now. Unreal that we are still up there with Arsenal and City. Could be 6-9 point gap by the end of the season unless they get a boot up their arses.

I think your man in charge of Atalanta done a job on Klopp, tactically and during the game. He didn’t know how to shift the momentum with subs & tactics. The players were poor aswell ofcourse. 1/2-0 would have been okay but your right Neil we have a mountain to climb now.

Not a Liverpool fan but what was up with the home support I never seen anfield so dead no flags nothing. I know the team gave nothing to shout about but the crowd would usually be none stop all game. Maybe klopps mind is on his retirement and not on the game and really under estimated Atalanta.

Deserved. Been defensively poor all season and unable to keep clean sheets, especially at home. Again the opposition had a glorious chance to score in the first 5 minutes, that seems to be a trait of this team. Don't want to hear the usual scapegoating of the likes of Tsimikas or Gakpo, Gomez, etc because the whole team has been in poor form for weeks on end. Nunez in particular never seems to get singled out by these same people, again he missed a sitter. A poor finisher who is out of form. Diaz is as poor a finisher, if not worse.
At the same time, this team has over-performed this season to be in the running for the league. Unable to to beat an awful Utd team, unable to beat City, unable to beat Arsenal. In short, we are not the best team in the league, as it stands. Having to pull out last ditch/late goals consistently to beat mid and lower table teams through sheer persistence and will. Can't fault the effort but not quite good enough. Can't see us winning every remaining league fixture, not without a significant improvement in form and an injection of energy. The team looks very tired, due to the flat out flog the horse style that Klopp has, which is unsustainable over a season. At some point players will hit the wall and during Klopps tenure we have had 2 write off seasons due to player burn out. I hope the next manager has a more efficient, sustainable style of football. It is the equivalent of trying to sprint flat out for a mile. You won't reach the end unless you pace yourself, you'll collapse and run out of energy first. This is why we have won only 1 league title and only 1 of the 4 European Finals during Klopps tenure.
Agree with almost everything you said. We’re over performing considering our squad quality and woeful defensive structure.
But can’t agree with you about the PL & CL trophies. Getting 96,92 points and not winning it. It’s harsh to say we should have done more. We were up against a side that is accused of cheating.
Perhaps we could have done more in CL v Real Madrid (obvious the first one! And I felt we were the better side in Paris but could not score sadly).
