centexbrass.com/ Clay is a great guy at CenTex Brass, and he knows a LOT about Olds horns. If you want something - check his site out and get in touch. Great guy! :)
A great Olds Studio Cornet is reviewed here, and then compared to the Olds Recording Cornet, an Olds Special Cornet, and an Olds Super Cornet. I think the Studio cornet has a breathy, dark(ish) tone...Very appealing sound, in my opinion. Each of these seem vastly different; their wraps are quite different - as is the resulting tone. Enjoy! :)

Cornet is great, but its the man behind it that makes it sing, great job sir. I just picked up a 1948 Ambassador cornet for a song. Sadly all the slides are stuck along with the caps.

Alex... Patience. :) Lots of lubrication; WD40 and Penetrating Oil are probably best for tough tasks. A leather mallet to tap along the slides and a shoelace to put in the crook of the slide, gently tugging, not really steady pulling, but soft(er) jerks; then more oil, more tapping and more patience. It took me almost a week to get the last slide. In fact, I thought I might have to take it to a brass tech, and then it popped off with one good jerk. Ambassador's can be SUCH nice players, too. Good luck with yours - and thanks for the kind words. :)

Hi there,John. Been watching your vids for a while. Hi from the Ukraine.
Wanted to ask you ,if you know some information that you can share with me regarding the Olds special cornet, but nickel silvered one.
When was it produced, and if the quality is similar to those older models that you own. Thanks in advance. I have purchased one not long ago, been searching for it for a couple of years.... wanted to find an Olds trumpet, but found an Olds special cornet. Vincent Bach 7c mouthpiece with it.
Would be thankful for any information.
Could not find alot of info on internet about the Olds special nickel silvered cornets. Generally,i like the sound .Haven't played on it a lot because of war. 1:26

Andrew, Greetings. The Olds Special cornet with its nickel-silver bell and bronze tip is one of my favorite cornets! I've had maybe 4 of them and they have all been well made. Really, Olds produced a quality product until they closed. Their early horns were rather special because they were more hand made, but I've had Olds horns made just before the factory closed in the '70's that were extremely well made. This particular model cornet, some call it the 'three color Special' was started in the late '50', very close to '58 or '59, and I think they continued making them for several years. Most of these cornets are from the '60's. I think mine is '61 or so. Prior to this particular model, the Special cornet was all brass. Here's a great site with lots of info. olds-central.com/

Also, I am so very sorry that war has come to your country. You are with us in prayer and in our thoughts.

@@JonathanMilam1 thanks for sharing the info. I guess the nickel silver plated Olds cornet is a student model from around 70s, can be? Have you met one of those.on your way?
