I’ve been using throttle-by-wire bikes for years and I love it. Never had an issue.
Yes, and i understand such devises won't break or malfunction for years. But, on an off-road bike in Latin-American Andes or desserts, which i intend to travel, what will happen when you are away from civilization, and the damn thing stops functioning? If it was by cable, i could fix that easily.
Another thing i really don't understand is the absence of a kickstarter. If muddy, or in the sand with an empty battery, no way you can start the bike by pushing it.
I love off-road bikes, but i have no intentions to play Nintendo with them. For that, a cruiser or standard bike is great.
@ I rode from Portland to Ushuaia Argentina on a KTM 690. Its throttle by wire was the least on my worries.
It’s a fear that will probably never be realised.
Reviews can be critical about functionality of the ABS switch and how its state is not being memorized between motorcycle restarts. This is not something that Royal Enfield or any other manufacturer can fix. EU regulations mandate ABS for every motorcycle above 125cc. Therefore, the ABS by default must be switched on. I had a Honda Africa Twin and the ABS switch works exactly the same. However, it is a physical switch, which is good. I don't want to go through the menu to deactivate ABS. Royal Enfield did what must be done with an additional feature of mechanical ABS switch and that's something positive. Regarding the dashboard, I don't like noticeable flicker it produces on motovloging cameras. Otherwise, the dashboard looks fine to me. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks for this advice with reviewing many older bikes I was not aware ☺️
Good review on the off-road use, with the correct tyres for that task. Obviously this more nobbly tyre than the OE Ceat units, with the lower temperature, restricted a road test to some extent. Bike definitely gets better with mileage after first service and then 1200 miles with the 6k rev limit before full engine use. Can't say there is a problem for me with engine vibrations after 800 miles and many owners do advise it does need more miles before it reduces even more. Very happy with my new bike, fit, finish and for the cost I see this as a great second machine for me.
Happy that you really like yours☺️
The black and gold model is a beauty. Rode it. Very enjoyable bike to me. :) Cheers.
That one is really cool
in mexico a Tenere 700 cost almost 3 times what the himalayan cost. I owned the 411 and now I have a 450, it is better in every way, I hope the engine will be reliable. it’s like a modern klr. regards!
I hope the engine is good too
I thought you were munching on a turkey leg when you stopped for a sec , nice review can't wait to get mine
Well done ... and WELL put, Laddie ! 😊
Thank you ☺️
Nice review, informative, entertaining and straight to the point!
Thank you
Thank you. Looks like Royal Enfield used the new Scram 440 for all fans of the 411´s. So in case of the Himalayan it`s a step forward into something more "modern" or "different" retro style. The new Scram 440 and upcoming Himalayan 650 will do the job for the 411 fans. I see the 450 can not be compared with the 411. It´s surprisingly retro for the indian market with about 1.4 Billion people who like to have more modern bikes like BMW and KTM etc.
Curius about that one too
Great review! Awesome!!
Thanks ☺️
Ride by wire is made for the hymalajan. You can drive it from the sea to the top of a montain. To ensure that, you need to adjust the fuel-air-ratio on the way to the top of the world.
Also the "abs on"-on start is just a safety feature. As well as switching only while standing.
You need to remind yourself: It's made for the unexperienced user imaginable, not for the experienced one.
I like this bike, because i forget the bike while driving and i have all my mind to focus on the way.
Sad you couldnt do some highway riding but im happy you reviewed it
We did some cross country road riding and like the old Himalayan it feels comfortable at 90
I totally agree with you, ride by wire is ridiculous on off-road machines. The more electronics, the less appealing for me.
For me to
Amazing bike and excellently detailed review! Just wondering, have you ever ridden the Africa Twin?!? If so, do you have a video review of it? 😎🏍️💨✌️
I have not gotten the chance too but I hope I can at some point but I have reviewed an older transalp that’s a very similar bike with a vtwin
@@FreeMilesMC Yes, I’ve seen that one. 😎🏍️💨✌️
I own a 411 Himalayan, and I'm not going to switch to a 450 for precisely the reasons you mentioned: I don't like the electronic gimmicks or the less do-it-yourself-friendly engine. There are so few simple bikes like the 411 left on the market, but a lot just like the 450.
I love the 411
Yep - when I saw the numbers, the geometry and the setup, I was excited about it.
But when I learned about the rider modes and throttle by wire, I lost most any enthusiasm I'd had, cause I immediately understood that Royal Enfield's lost the plot..
Wonder if they'll get the message with this one, or if their future bikes are going to go further and further down the electronics up the wazoo rabbit hole.
I mean, maybe it works out for them as a business decision, but it sure isn't what I'm looking for in a motorcycle. A car maybe, but not a bike.
I mean they still have all the other nice enfields☺️
So you don't understand how manufacturing and regulation works then, all newly designed vehicles have to meet upcoming emissions laws which are are so tight it means the use of ride by throttle and lean running engines, the fact that they can still produce an engine that doesn't suffer a snatchy throttle and doesnt have flat spots in the power curve is testament of good design, as for not including cruise control well this would mean it would have to a radar and auto brake to stop dummies ploughing into the back of other road users, the world is changing, manufacturers don't build sports bikes anymore and the focus is on smaller capacity bikes singles and twins all to meet regulation, we should be grateful we can still buy motorcycles
RE Himalayan is the Evolution from the first version, they lissend Clients feedback and deliver. There are view Drag Race Videos that show the new Himalayan pull in the begin away from the Interceptor but later the Inter650 it catch up. I drove the new Himalayan too and i was supriced how well suite it. I must say that i had the old Himalayan too so i can copare it well. RE deliverd a very good bike that is a strong competitor for all 450 engine outside.
I think it’s cool that they listened so mutch to their comunety ☺️
I had a Himy 411 (fell for the looks) and currently own a meteor and classic 350 (fell for the engine). The 350s give a much bettter experrience then the 411 enginewise.
BUT if you only do moderate offroad I think you'd better off with the bear 650. That looks much better then the new himy.
Is there any possibility to do CFMoto 450MT review in the future and compare it with Himalayan 450? I'd like to hear your opinion :)

Yes I hope I get that Chance but ktm is not going to give me one as they are facing bankrupry Right now but I try to get my Hands on one
You mentioned you're 6.5 high (I'm 6.5 too). How comfortable it was for you? Did you feel cramped or was it ok? Thanks for any feedback on this.
Yes it was completely comfortable
I heard on another channel that you can pull the clutch in or something like that to change modes on the Abs switch I will look it up if I can find it
For me any royal bike is ugly, just my opinion.
Overrated, weak bike IMHO. Also the single cylinder these days is a no-no due to vibrations
loooool
Single-cylinder isn't the issue, modern ones perform well. The real drawback is the near 200kg weight
Less weight costs more but it's within financial reach to a larger majority of riders wanting to taste some off-road conditions plus destinations they've been dreaming of.
Excellent review Miles on a very tempting bike 🐫
Enjoyed your video agree on all the observations you made on the 450 especially about the ride by wire and the ride modes .👍 Alan Northern Ireland.
My KLR grumbles in your general direction!
