People make such a big deal of the word “postseason” that they fail to understand what the word means in today’s mlb. Postseason means end of regular season, in which there are 2 possible outcomes. You make the playoffs or you don’t. It doesn’t guarantee anything until you win your division as either the 1st or 2nd seed. Growing up in 90’s the word postseason means league divisional series. The Yankees haven’t gotten there yet. They are yet to clinch the division or the only wc spot. The wc series where you have to win 2 out of 3 is not considered postseason. You have to win that so you can go to the postseason. Furthermore, never should a division winner have to fight for their playoff lives in this rediculous wc series. Either add a 4th wc team (and play single elimination games to determine the wc spot) or remove the 3rd or even 2nd wc team and make it how we grew up watching baseball
Yes good thoughts. You could argue a low win division winner fighting for their lives is a fine compromise compared to the old days anyways. At least you still have a shot. The current system still rewards the best teams in the league. I get where you’re coming from though. I could look at it both ways. I agree that making the postseason isn’t nearly the same as getting a first round bye. Teams shouldn’t be that excited unless they get the bye.
Next year the Yanks have to get a dominant closer. My idea, sign Trevor Bauer and make him the closer. You can get him cheap and he will do anything to be in the MLB. Also there are many times you can use him in the 8th and 9th innings. (Think John Smoltz)
