  • Nick Shepherd is a 7th grade math and English teacher at C.S. Porter Middle School in Missoula, Mont., where he has been teaching for five years. Born and raised in Missoula by a family of educators, he tried to break that trend and graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration. After working in the insurance industry and living in Seattle and Boise, Nick returned to his education roots in Missoula. He joined AmeriCorps and worked for two years a tutor at Franklin Elementary and then earned his teaching degree at Boise State University. Nick has a wife and three children, and his passions include camping, skiing and entertaining others through music.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

A clean desk is a sign of a messy mind? This is a really flipping of common wisdom. Or maybe somebody's mind is so messed up that they just can't get their desk organized in a meaningful way. They just wipe out the desktop "clean" - throwing out the baby with bath water! Now that makes sense!
