A2 is scary sharp out of the box, and as always stays fairly sharp and restores very easily. 3V is not very sharp out of the box, but as always holds my home made angle pretty long.
I think Desert Ironwood is the best wood for knife handles. It is dense and hard, and no prone to shrinking. And it is very beautiful and is not boring. Thanks.

Wako, that is VERY exciting about your rife permit! I remember your mentioning in one of your videos that you have to use shotgun slugs for several years before being eligible for a rifle permit. The wait is almost over! My favorite is the .308. I reload, and have developed a favorite .308 cartridge. I wish I could send you some to try. -Scott
Ease of split, is determined by the number of knots in the log piece at hand. The number of knots and the way they have grown. More knots, the harder it gets. Your birch samples hav very few knots, therefor they are easier to split. To make such a comparison, the number and order of the knots need to be as similar as possible, from log to log. A2 Has smaller angle: A geometry that fits Bushcraft. 3V: Harder steel; and to get sharp, but stays sharp long. A2: Softer steel, easy to sharpen, easy dulling. Why don't put a A2 Angle on a 3V knife? Will there be problems in microchipping or such, because 3V is harder - and with lesser angle, lesser material to support the edge?

I have decided to get 270 and 308 at the same time, 270 for long range shooting on the pasture, and 308 in case I need to shoot a bear in the forest. The short action of 308 is light and well suited to carry around in the forest. I will have them near the end of this coming season. So I will have few chances to use them this season. Thanks.
I ordered Winchester M70 Featherweight 270 for pasture and 308 for woods. Deer most often stand 300 yards away on pasture, and I can meet with a brown bear in woods. These are the reasons for the two calibers. My rifle permit will come in March next year. So I will have few chances to use them this coming season. Thanks.
Good choices. I own both those calibres and your reasoning is sound. I bet youll be surprised though at how well the 308 can do for longer range pasture shots with the right bullet. The 270 is a great long range deer rifle though for sure.
I don't think large angle is great for hunting. I just found the most appropriate angle for hunting to avoid edge troubles is a bit larger than the best angle for wood whittling to bite wood nicely. Anyway you say what I wanted to say very well. Thank you! 3V is harder but is not more prone to chipping in my current experiences. Therefore I cannot reach the true reason. I don't think 3V needs more supporting material than A2 not to chip because 3V is tougher. Current 3V doesn't chip but rolls.

Sir. I know you thinking about "edge angle" on hunting knives and i have nothing to argue about that, but... For survival a more obtuse angle is a must. If you get "micro rolls" with that kind of wood (really soft), what you will get in a "real survival situation"?! My advice is to test it out on your forest wood and "close the angle" until it stop to roll. With time and "real life survival practice" you will get to the same conclusion. I wish you all the best...

Good choices. The 270 shoots very flat and is comfortable to shoot. I have both calibres also. Have fun finding which ammunition your rifles prefer.

CPM3V is pretty rust resistant unless you keep it wet over night. A2 takes rust after 2 hours in a wet sheath.

I have a 30-06, it's like a 270 but with a much bigger heavier bullet

When you baton, try pushing down hard on the handle of the knife. Make a big difference and is safer too
