Hello, I am using my wife's channel; my name is Stuart. I purchased a Henson aluminium shaver and was not having much success, but I figured out it was the cheap RK blades that came with it in the box. I don't have the TI version, but I purchased Voskhod Teflon-coated blades, and oh man, what a difference. Its like night and DAY really good shave, really Good. the the blades make that much of a difference, hands down Voskhod baby!!!!!! Love your videos Stuart Naples Florida.
Anyone that’s on the fence about buying a Henson, just go for it. I highly doubt you will regret it. I have close to the same beard and I use the AL13 mild too and it performs perfectly!! I typically use the persona lab blue blades and always get BBS shaves with 2 passes. Second pass for me is against the grain. I even bought one for my wife and she absolutely loves it too! Henson AL13 is my go to razor. Have to be something pretty awesome to top it in my eyes.
If you want to try a razor that offers a unique shave like the Henson AL13 try the Karve Overlander. I cannot decide which of these two razors is my favorite. They are both mild but efficient and have the best ATG shaves. I have both the Ti22 and Karve Overlander brass and I love them both. Still need to get my hands on the Aluminum Karve Overlader.
I just got my first safety razor yesterday (AL13). I shaved immediately. Absolutely loved it. Shave again today and also did a head shave. I’m a big fan. I also bought same brush you are using and I’m very impressed. I ordered some TOBS Sandlewood soap and can’t wait for it to come in tomorrow. After watching a bunch of your videos I also picked up a lathering bowl. It’ll be nice to pamper myself with a great shave.
They’re OK. For every day shave, they would work for me, but I like to grow up my hair. I don’t know 3 to 7 days of growth so I need a little more of a aggressive razor blade.
@@timjones8295 I hated them. I had bought 100 when I bought my first Henson but ended up giving them away. I use Gillette Platinum, Wilkinson Sword, Personna, Tatra, Permasharp and Derby. I have about 2200 blades at this point and 75 razors. 🤣🤣 The rabbit hole is deep.
Love the videos! I like the honesty as well. Alot of videos swear by the 'mild' Henson for a close shave. As someone that recently started using a Henson, im trying to learn the correct angle consistently, and feel like over time itll become second nature. Your videos pushed me to try the Henson, as previous safety razors created ALOT of irritation on my face. Awesome video!
@OhioShaves I'm so happy to see you, my brother. As usual, another great detailed educational breakdown of wet shaving products. I agree with your pre shave oil assessment. I kind of found a way around the clogging. I tend to have a wetter lather using a pre shave oil. I wish the family and you a blessed Memorial Day weekend, GBY.
I had been using the Medium AL13 Gen 1. Just picked up the Ti Gen 2 medium. Love it. The Ti hits the perfect balance of weight and grip. It's moved into my fave razor slot!
Besides the weight, are there any discernable differences in aggressiveness between the two? As far as I know, aside from some cosmetic changes, the gap/exposure measurements have not changed since the gen 1 razors, but many claim the gen 2 Hensons are a step up in aggressiveness compared to their gen 1 counterparts.
@@jordanpogon5512 I never had the mild. My AL13 was a medium and I picked up a Ti Medium. I find the medium to be a great daily driver. I don't have a heavy beard at all. I never have any irritation issues. Using RK blades or any really, it takes down 3 days growth or 1 days growth smoothly without any issues.
Hey guy I finally got my Henson razor angle right. I’m not going back. I love my al13 razor I love the blade that come with them I’m not going back. Maybe at Christmas I’ll buy the ti22. I don’t get irritated anymore just a great shave
I've been pushing my brother and brother in law to buy a henson. They use cartridge razors right now and I think with that razor having the shave angle built into the head design it would be great for beginners.
I’ve decided to treat myself to a “buy once, cry once” razor. I’m new to DE razors. I’ve tried the AL-13 +, and found it to be too light. I’m really torn between the Mild, Medium, and Aggressive. Also wondering if there are any other high-end models you’d suggest I consider? The AS-D2 looks really nice too.
Henson is one of my favorites I have the titanium and aluminum in medium if I could only have one razor i think I’d pick the Henson AL13 ++ as I tend to put to much pressure on my razor so aluminum works great for me I do the same post shave routine never been a fan of shaving oil maybe I just haven’t tried the right one
I prefer mild safety razors too. I think aggressive DEs are way overhyped in terms of efficiency and performance. In fact, Kevy Shaves used the Rockwell 6S R1 plate only with heavy beard growth to prove that he could get a BBS result. Having said that, it would still be interesting to see a 10-day comparison shave between the R41 vs the AL13 and the 6S vs the AL13.
Great video again ! I've had the Leaf Thorn at home for a week and it's by far the most comfortable razor I've used since I started shaving with safety razors a year ago. I'm afraid my Rockwell 6C will stay neatly stored for a long time.. Hopefully I'll really stop buying razors now. Last time I said this was in November with the Merkur 37C Slant 😂
Я тоже так думал после покупки Паркер вариант .... но теперь и хэнсэн медиум купил ... правда ещё не брился .... как вам эта бритва ? Каким лезвием вы берётесь в этой бритве ?
Finally got a couple packs of Astra blades to try with my AL13 mild, and finally got a close shave with it. I’m going to have to try those Personna blades. I’m feeling a lot better about my Henson mild now that I tried different blades with it. So far, for me, RK blades only work well with the AL13 medium. Feather is too aggressive, even with the AL13 mild. So Astra is the way to go with the mild (so far).
Got a nasty nick my first time using the Henson...totally my fault...I'm so used to trying to find the 30-degree angle with any other razor that I forgot that I don't need to do that with this one... good old muscle memory! LOL
I'm surprised you got 10 days off with the mild razor. Even with the leaf oil, with the henson i could only get 3 or 4 days off with it before switching to a different razor (even with the aggressive one). I usually pull out the game changer or the rockwells if I have to cut down that much growth. Does the titanium actually work better? My wife found the collection and wants me to cut back on getting more razors at this point but it is a hard buy when I have both the medium and aggressive versions already.
I love a hot towel Shave with an open razor when I visit my barber. When he’s finished he insists on using a Braun electric foil shaver to ‘finish’ the shave. Do you feel that this is necessary? Greetings from the UK.
Yo you ever try any of the proraso soaps? You can find them just about anywhere and they have been around for a long time. The lather that generates from the soap is incredible, I highly recommend!
Have you completed a head shave with the Henson yet? I tried a head shave with a Rex Envoy and cut the hell out of myself. I use a Pit Bull skull shaver but wanted to try a safety razor. Big mistake with the Rex. Which I should've known better being the Rex nicks my face almost every time.
Obviously, when your head heals, you could try another head shave but with a different razor; most preferably a MILD double edge razor. I have three different razors (or razor heads): one mild, the second less mild, and the third aggressive (in my sense of it). The mild one gives me the best head shaves, often without needing to go over missed or lesser shaved spots. The aggressive one always gives (now "gave") cuts.
If you just want razor and don't want to mess around with changing plates, definitely go for the Henson. If you want the ability to change the blade gap for different razor blades than the Rockwell.
I have an adjustable Konsul and I can get a great shave dialed down to #2 or less. If using a Feather blade I dial it down all the way to .5. "Aggressive" is not all it's cracked up to be.
@@OhioShaves On rewatching? Do you think you could have cut through that 10 day growth faster and more efficiently using a Feather or Kai blade? Both are extremely sharp and make quick work of a lot of growth. I won't use a Feather for even 3 or 4 days growth but I've seen it make quick work of a 7 day growth.
