"sometimes he's a little old-fashioned" . So what? He's the coach, he has a lot of coaching experience and he knows how to win. What do ya want him to do? Hold the players hands and give them big hugs when they play badly?
Torts should call out the so-called fans who are making the death threats. But let’s be honest, he doesn’t have the guts. Easier to go off on someone who’s already got a bunch of other people calling him out.
I saw this from Torts when he was in Van. Lesser fans never appreciated this man. Every call he made about the Canucks team was right. Too old. So and so had to go. All true. How many Canucks coaches, past and present, have a cup and could have taken that jackets team past the lightning? This man isn’t the goat nor top tier, but he’s def a small small step behind That. Missed you in Van until Tocchet. Thanks Torts.
Good on Torts shafting that BS reporter. Gauthier may be against Briere's son's inexcusable action toward handicapped people, pushing the wheelchair down the stairs and damaging it. Did Briere apologize for his son's action or even say something responsible or compensate those innocent people? Even though his son was not in the Flyer's organization, how can the GM deter others from copying cat his son and linking this incident to his Flyers? it was a private decision by Gauthier not to play for the Flyers and this seemed like the most plausible reason, given Danny probably did not do too much to diffuse his son's inexcusable action?
This right here is why people are hateful and distrustful of the media. You're supposed to report FACTS not facts with your personal or corporate agenda mixed in. This goes beyond sports reporting and is really why our political discourse is so broken. Too much emphasis on being first and getting clicks instead of being right .
Keep in mind Keith Jones is running the show. Jonesy played with Lindros and saw what meddling parents/advisers can do. So after going to SWE on a last ditch effort and being snubbed, I think Jonesy said “hell no” and pulled the trigger…
This is what I should be saying about the people on Twitter, UA-cam and Deviantart that who complain about everything celebrities do and support. Such as controversy. Even if it's an understandable mistake. Or supporting a different side.
Torts has always been a coach that just loves the game. Hes willing to do hard things with his team that u have to do as a coach. When a coach starts making decisions based on who he likes off the ice the team will get pissed on the ice they arent making the tough decisions. I had a coach like that who wouldnt play his best lines on pp but on pk he let the D coach run lines and he ran the right lines. The head coach didnt wanna hurt feelings but the team wants to win play the best guys for the job. If u cant do that u cant coach. Torts is a coach u want. Fight for u off the ice but will tell u ur shit on the ice if u are
Why Tortorella will never worry about being out of a job in any market. He knows exactly how to handle the media and doesn't give a s%^$ about how far his foot goes up someone. Would love to see coaching the Leafs, but let's face it, he'd have a heartattack, stroke, and multiple ulcers before the first question got asked 😔
Good for Torts. As newspapers and magazines fade away " journalism" and " reporting" are becoming more and more sleazy just to be relevant. The Toronto Sun was recently outed for a clickbait headline that was totally misleading to readers and offensive the the player. This repoters actions regarding his salacious story on Kevin Hayes should see him fired. Just putting this out there because I havent seen this mentioned yet - Gautheir's agent is known to push player- team boundaries very aggresively, so maybe it isn't suprising what happened here..Trouba and Laine both forced their trades from Winnipeg, for different reasons, both are clients the same guy. He looks after the true desires of the player no matter what. Like him or not he's a good player agent.
I have no connection to the Flyers but I will always root for any team that employs Tortorella after his comments back when he was the US Olympic oach. He made it clear that anyone who knelt during the Anthem “wouldn’t see the ice”. The POS media gave him flack for it but the man flat-out has morals.
He's from a time when the american flag didn't stand for religious zealots cracking down on womens rights. Totally see where he was coming from. Political climate has been changing way quicker than the actual climate.
Uhhhhh no. If torts can't get with the times and understand the current political climate and not get why someone wouldn't want to respect the flag- that's on him and his boomer ass lmfao. I get what he was trying to do- and i understand his motivation for his words, especially at the olympics. That does not mean he had the correct picture in mind when he was speaking about this. I don't think he's a bad guy for this, it's the Olympics... you're representing your country. If you don't want to, literally why did you accept the position unless held at gunpoint (lol russia).
@@filelps1178 at least he doesn't claim his way is the "correct" way 🤷 Looks like ageism to me.. They come from a different time, different perspectives aren't inherently bad or wrong.

The reporter was doing something called reporting. If John Tortorella thinks the report is false he should say so. But he doesn't do that. He only berates the reporter for doing his job-namely adding context and specifics to a story that was already out there. And by the way, it was The Philadelphia Flyers organization who put that story out there, establishing a narrative that invites obvious questions some of which the reporter was attempting to answer. But Torts is apparently only interested in the damage to Kevin Hayes' reputation. What a guy!Okay let's talk about that. Two things people have to remember here: 1. The reporter in question did not send death threats to Kevin Hayes. That was done by wack job Flyers fans and if there is any one group who should be publicly shamed and excoriated, it's that particular sub-species. You might say yes well the story set the stage for the reprehensible behavior of some fans. Torts goes even further than that in assigning blame but this is disingenuous and just plain wrong. The mean, unhinged and frankly psychotic comments of some Flyers fans sprang from the mean, unhinged and psychotic minds of those particular individuals. They are solely responsible for their own comments full stop. 2. The notion that John Tortarella is appalled by anyone who uses a public forum to personally attack another individual and potentially harm their reputation is both ridiculous and outrageous. Young players entering the NHL should seek advice from veterans who have been around and seen a thing or two. I suspect it happens all the time. If Kevin Hayes held a dim view of the Flyers organization and shared that with young Cutter Gauthier he was perfectly within his rights to do so. And Cutter Gauthier in turn can do whatever he wants with that information. I'm not saying I agree with Hayes supposed advice or Gauthiers apparent refusal to give the Flyers a chance. I'm saying that players do (and should) have these conversations based on their own experiences. Many comments here lauding Torts' for bravely going out on a limb to protect and defend a former player and i'm sure that is a narrative that John Tortorella loves. I see something else; the tired schtick of a self aggrandizing jerk who cannot pass up an opportunity to bully a reporter.
Awesome he stands up for a former player. But I think he’s attacking the wrong target here. Maybe the reporter was irresponsible about their sourcing, but reporters are supposed to report things even if they might “cause trouble.” So to hold the reporter responsible for other people sending death threats is crazy to me. Those fans need to check themselves and do better. Torts shoulda called them out.
All I got from this video is a coach who stood up for his player and that people on social media are mentally ill. Seriously bringing up his dead brother? The real scum aren't the reporters it's crap peope like this that's the real problem. Calling them passionate Flyers fans is bullshit. You need to call this out as well.
Love Torts. Him becoming head coach was one of the best things to happen to Philadelphia hockey in... probably a decade. He's been a large part of turning a listless, hopeless club with little going for it into the highlight of Philadelphia sports (sorry, Eagles, maybe do better than losing 6 games in a row in spectacular fashion). The worst part of him as HC are the soft Flyers fans who whine about him being too harsh and are doing a victory lap claiming vindication now that that Gauthier hoser is in Anaheim now.
I am soooo tired of so-called reporters speculating. Setting up a player to be the fall guy like Hayes is BS. To set him up to the idiots online who attack the player, his family, his deceased brother is all on this one prick of a reporter.

He stood up to a sports 'journalist' give this culture warrior a purple heart...
who was the reporter that started the Kevin Hayes story ?
How can you not love this guy?
"sometimes he's a little old-fashioned" . So what? He's the coach, he has a lot of coaching experience and he knows how to win. What do ya want him to do? Hold the players hands and give them big hugs when they play badly?
I didn’t know Henry Winkler was an NHL coach.
Who in your mind are the top 5 coaches and don't give me a coach with only one cup and less than 300 games coached!
Do you think Cutter would have refused to play for the Flyers if Ed Snider was still with us? I don’t think so either!
Sticking up for players. Torts is a good guy.
Reporters should be held accountable for their resources in street justice way!
Fight for u off the ice but will tell u ur shit on the ice if u are
Torts is a legend. A man of character, and he loves dogs. We miss him in New York.
After all this i still dont get what happened or why it happened..all i know it involves Torts and Hayes
@@antonforsman8099 haha what? M8 idk if you're being fucking stupid on purpose or what, but if he's telling his team that under no circumstances can someone do that under him, YES he thinks his way is the correct way. Different perspectives CAN be bad and wrong.
Don't be a dumbass fence sitter.
Torts would take a bullet for his players, he's an awesome coach. Just so happens he's hilarious too
Just makes me love Torts more
Imagine going to school and thinking “I wanna be a news reporter” in todays day. Gotta have a screw loose
I always loved torts. He’s old school and hockey needs that. Always
Torts is a legend, period!
Two things people have to remember here:
I see something else;
the tired schtick of a self aggrandizing jerk who cannot pass up an opportunity to bully a reporter.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Tort is a great man, sticking up for his team means "coach". BTW, "Tort" in many Slavic languages means "Cake".
I don't agree with Torts most of the time. But he was spot on with this one.
Gathier has stronger ties to York and Brink because they all played in the USDT system.
I am soooo tired of so-called reporters speculating. Setting up a player to be the fall guy like Hayes is BS. To set him up to the idiots online who attack the player, his family, his deceased brother is all on this one prick of a reporter.
