Hi Amanda, I agree you are spot on, I would love to see branded craft items back in the Range. There is just nothing to buy, I'm certainly not spending my hard earned money on the selection of their own brand in the Range at the moment, I hope they bring back quality products that crafters want.
Same!!! I also used to demo for Docrafts and Trimcraft in the range. The store was so vibrant back then - its really gone downhill since 2020. Such a shame
Yep not even any Docrafts in there now !! No papermania zilch .. they didn’t even have X-cut things either and they did last month .. gotten rid of all brands but their own x
They even took away all the die cutting machines .. absolutely no branded anything except the one lonely creative expressions die ha ha .. even taken away X-cut !!
I couldn't agree more. I go to our local craft store and more than half the time I can't find what I went there for. We have Micheals here in Canada and I only buy when I have a coupon.
A great review Amanda which does reflect my own thoughts on craft products at the The Range. They have plenty of craft items for children which is not adequate for adult crafters/artists. The Range 13 years ago did sell better quality products, sadly this is no longer the case. The last product I bought from the range was some ribbon. Thanks for your review 👍
100% agree with everything you’ve said Amanda, I’ve taken a break from crafting and although it’s not the main reason, after visiting crafters companion at junction 30 of the M1, The range & Hobbycraft, The range being closest to me, instead of inspiring me, I actually felt deflated 😢 The craft section has halved in our Range & like you I found the quality of the products very poor. What they are missing is the fact that I would go in for craft supplies & end up buying pet supplies, kitchen ware, gardening products, cleaning materials etc but now I don’t spend a penny, because I don’t go in for craft supplies. Thank you for continuing to pursue this, I’m eager to see what happens next xxx
Great video, I'm an older person and love my crafting, it used to be a real treat to shop crafty supplies at the Range. My Range store is near Evesham in Worcestershire. The main moan I have, I don't think it's a new issue, the Range is very, very poor at displaying their prices for products. Yes you can ask an assistant, if you can locate one " how much?"or you can take item to the till, and make a decision as to buy it or not. I can see why we buy on line, but it is nice to see products in the flesh so to speak. I just think there is a general decline, things are not what they used to be.
Great video Amanda 🥰 in Denmark we have to buy online, there's not much crafty things in any shops here ❤ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx
Hi Amanda, i totally agree with all you say, i used to love giong for craft items when they used to sell Crafters Companion and other companies products but not any more, i purchased some blank cards and they were rubbish very cracked on the fold not fit for purpose , i sometimes pop into The Works but mainly on line craft shopping , such a shame, but like others have said its a lovely shop just not for crafts.
Totally agree with everything you have said Amanda, I used to love shopping in the Range but not any more. Hobbycraft to far away and a lot more expensive. If I need to purchase supplies I have to go online with I hate doing searching here there and everywhere for a decent price. I always said online shopping would be the death of shops. But I must say your Range looks better stocked than ours and I noticed you had PRICES gosh don’t think ours knows what price tags are. Yes the brand they sell is absolutely rubbish, I’ve complained at the till just get a dirty look so give them one back😆. I look forward to hearing about the outcome of your visit. Thank you for taking the trouble, take care x👍❤❤
I totally agree with you, I went to the range 2 weeks ago newly opened in my area, I was shocked as my partner hates me going there as I used spend too much but came out with just two dog chews.... I was so disappointed I didn't realise they had stopped other make products.... xx I hope you get some answers.
I agree with your views on The Range. Your store has more stock than my local store in Chichester. I think the products have changed since Lockdown and I do wonder if The Range had supply problems with China. I used to buy a few bits in The Works but that is also woeful. The Range would do well to support British based suppliers. Craft Consortium have wonderful papers and embellishments. The Hobby House have wonderful ribbons and flowers. If we could buy the physical products it would be a win win for everyone.
I will never shop in the range again!! I used to love it but their craft products are dreadful unless you have small children. I now shop online or at hobby craft having a day out to include lunch xx thanks for the review Amanda. xx
I agree the range has went downhill for craft items and so has hobbycraft , there is only 1 shop I know of that stocks a variety of craft items but it is more than an hours drive from me , i have visited once and I just didn’t know where to start lol I also had delivery prior to visit but some items you want to see things before you buy so for now it’s online buying for me . But that’s the great thing about following you because you give the best reviews . I hope you get somewhere with your query x
Thanks lovely I will keep trying. I wouldn't mind driving if I knew of somewhere. I try buy what I can from smaller UK based online craft shops like Buddly crafts or Emerald crafts but I do like a good browse ha ha x
Totally agree with your comments, places to buy craft items even fabrics is a disgrace in here in Scotland as well. I do many different crafts and it is a struggle to buy items i need. Think I'll move to America, 😂😂 they seem to have it all. Thanks again for sharing. 💕
I was watching and thinking yep same stuff we have, I also do not have a craft shop near me. I did find 3 paper pads which, I Really liked, but the card stock is so thin, and the pre made cards awful. Yet go to the rest of the shop for everything not crafty, and it has an amazing array of colour and I dunno just not bad, but thanks for giving us a tour, makes me totally not in awe, that you have a better Range than I. Lol! Enjoy your bits. I’m stuck in the house, so for me it’s a great adventure to go out, but I have to admit, my visit was crap! Xx🦋🦋
You did right to stick in your beak Amanda. I too would like the Range to stock more of the products that used to stock (when they were trying to attract our business.) I m backing you all the way xxx 👍
Well said Amanda. The last time I visited The Range at Chatham the craft section was reduced to a small corner upstairs. I have not been back since. I've have said for a while that the only creative thing about Hobbycraft is the prices. They both seem to concentrate on childrens supplies. Good luck with pushing further up the ladder, I'm right behind you. 🙂
Very interesting video! I tend to buy online as there are no shops around where I live to buy craft items, The works has declined in the amount of stuff they sell and The Range and Hobbycraft are both over an hour away... Such a shame to hear that things are declining as in my opinion there are a lot of crafters that now have no choice but to buy online... Thank you so much for sharing, take care x
Spot on Amanda, I used to shop at the Range often for crafty stuff, each re jig of the store the craft area has suffered. Almost zero choice now, they might make multi millions of pounds in profit but let’s face it profits are never enough so by stocking more quality craft products they’d make even more. Art studio brand is pretty rubbish across the items. 🙁
Here in Ireland we have The Range & The Works. also we have Art & Hobby and some Independent art shops (which are expensive). Also we have a shop called Mr Price, which is quite good. And also a shop called Sostrene & Greene (sisters green)
Hi Amanda! I’m in Plymouth - the home of The Range! Often see Chris Dawson’s flash cars in the car park of the Derriford flagship store and head office - there are two others in Plymouth too! One of them being the very original CDS Store! I couldn’t agree with you more! Some lovely home decor and accessories, kitchen ware, bedding, towels etc! Their Christmas displays and selections are amazing! We have ‘Iceland’ within our stores too! However… the craft section is exactly how you describe it - very limited choice and certainly not great quality in what they do have! So disappointed that they no longer stock Craft UK brand! I’m exactly the same as you - go there with some crafty pennies to spend but come way with nothing! We have no independent craft stores in Plymouth or the surrounding area. We do have a Hobbycraft near the city centre but I do find them quite pricey! That said I don’t mind paying for quality product but find ‘own brand’ in the range and hobbycraft are not particularly great quality! There’s several online shops I use but usually have to pay P&P! But what choice is there otherwise! Cannot wait to hear if you hear back from anyone! 🤞☺️
The Range used to be my go to place for craft products, I still browse but the amount available now is definitely not what it used to be. Love to be able to physically see items which is a shame that the variety is not there now
Yeah I will still browse but won't waste my time and fuel going there JUST for craft things. I will only go now if I want something for my home as it is good for all that x
Hi Amanda. Is there a Boyes near you? They don’t have a lot but I can normally get what I need from their shop. Sadly they are only up north so I have to wait until I visit my daughter 🥲
The range near us is about the same, they got rid of the good brands , paper pads are naff now, along with card stock, glues etc, but I do love to go to the range to look and fill my basket with other things😁
thank you for doing this! ive always been curious about the range. Their ribbon is a great deal, other than that, i agree wtih you! They want us to go online, i really think they do!!! its weird.
I totally agree! online benefits the companies. They will try say ohh well folks are buying online so that's why our stock changes. But online they don't need as many shops and as many staff they get the same money for product but their overheads are way less it benefits THEM if we shop online x
Totally agree with everything you said. Our local Range, Hobbycraft, and Works are useless. There are no independent craft shops anymore. You have no choice but to buy on line. We do have a Creative Craft Show twice a year where you can get to see more thing's but you have to pay to enter. Postage is costly if you buy on line unless you buy a lot. The Range never seems to bother putting prices and you end up having to go to the check out to find out. You tell them Amanda.🥰😊😂
I even went to the Creative crafts show in Birmingham last month fully expecting to stock up.. bout two things I spent more on the ticket and parking than on craft stuff shan't go again :( xx
You've just cleared something up for me regarding the cards and envelopes. I didn't realise they had done away with the decent Craft UK brand, that's really disappointing because I had been looking for them. Like you, I do like The Range, but I think it is very poor in the "crafting" department. It's one thing selling your "own brand" but not giving the buyer "choices" is pretty poor. Our nearest store is like an obstacle course because the aisles are too narrow and the people who work there are constantly leaving those big trolley things they use for wheeling stock around, in the middle of aisles, it's an accident waiting to happen. Our nearest Hobbycraft is miles away and we usually visit once or twice a year. Disappointing there too. I had money off from there and they asked me for my opinion, I told them. It pained me to say it, but they really need to take a lesson from our friends in America, they know what a craft shop is supposed to be and we are left with places who can't even do branded items. No wonder so many stores are closing and people are buying online 😒 Like so many companies too, they don't want us to contact them, it's pathetic. Good for you for speaking up - I will be trying to investigate somewhere to contact them and will be getting in touch to give them my view. Come on people at The Range, Hobbycraft and The Works, get your finger out and start listening to your paying customers
We have a lot of options in the states and are somewhat spoiled. I have been forced to buy online because I can never find what I need to complete a craft I’m working on or just some items I want in my stash. I’m a hands on buyer, I want to touch and see the product I’m purchasing. For me I think it’s just a matter of the craft that I do is in decline and too many competing entities out there.
I agree - the selection and quality of Craft products of The Range has deteriorated. My other complaint of The Range is that items are often not priced and even when they are priced, you are often charged a different price at the till. When I query the price, the standard response is that customers must have moved the goods and put them down in the wrong place. The last time this happened there was a stack of 9 identical paper pads under a £2.99 ticket- and the cashier rang up £4.99.Again, I was was told that the pad must have been put back in the wrong place .(What, all 9 of them?). I have now started to walk away when that price is different to that displayed or getting it refunded. Always check your till receipts there!
Never had that problem in my local store but I get it allll the time in my local big Asda it happens so much that I check the ticket on the shelf against the barcode on the product if I am not sure it's right. We kinda know how much things should be don't we. If the code on the shelf matches the product they have to sell it at that price by law they can't charge more at the till x
Well, I'm not in the UK. But Canada is just as bad. We have very few craft shops, and the ones we have hardly carry any papercrafting products; the ones online charge exhorbitant rates for shipping or mailing. So I feel your pain. Thank you for addressing this issue.
I had to go into Stockport a couple of months ago and the range and Hobbycraft are on the same estate. There was nowhere near as many things as you showed in the Stockport Range totally uninspiring. The only thing I bought was a packet of sequins and then went into Hobbycraft, and there was even less in there, plenty of art supplies and fabric, but virtually nothing in the paper craft sections, I didn’t buy anything. How sad!
It's awful isn't it ... I come out of there sulking like a spoiled child because I hardly got anything ha ha ha . I stopped going to Hobbycraft about 2 years ago as they had nothing what so ever of interest .. its a shame x
So sad to watch this and see how The Range craft section has deteriorated - I used to love going and having a buy up as I like to see and feel the quality of what I am buying. Not managed to get to a store so far this year and I'm not going to bother now after seeing your tour - not everyone wants to buy stuff on line and they need to realise that quality matters. Thanks for saving me a disappointing visit to their store!
Here in the US I've found that all the big box stores are just selling their own brand which to me is useless. If I'm going to spend money on craft supplies I want to buy something that is better quality. We used to have tons of small scrapbook stores and they've all closed. The closest stores that carry name brand quality craft products are either 30 miles or 86 miles from me. It's just not feasible to go to them all time, so I basically order most of what I need online. It's sad.
i totally agree no dies, only odd stamps,no 12x.12 no distress ink or oxide ink. I travel 40miles to range and hobbycraft and neither are any use.....i pop in as in area at the time
I have never seen Ranger or Tim Holts at the Range. I always get them from Emerald crafts or Buddley crafts online. They are UK based small crafty businesses prices are good and free postage if you spend a certain amount so I will wait and buy a few things every so often and get free postage . Amazon is ok if you have prime but I find they can hike their prices when items are low stock they rocket.. Amazon is my last port of call rather use small sellers direct x
Hi I live in Coventry and no we don't have much in the way of craft shops the range is to far for me to go as I don't drive we have a Hobbycraft shop and that it America is brilliant for there craft so I shop on line but it's still limited x
I agree with you. Their catch phrase used to be "If we don't sell it, you don't need it" - well that's definitely not true!!! I find The Works more inspiring than The Range these days!! That and independent craft shops (which are a dying breed). So very sad really.
Yeah there are zero independent ones anywhere near me sadly and the works in our town has very limited items sigh.. I like to browse and look and feel things hate having to get everything online xx
Sadly our Southport store has gone the same way regarding craft products. Just rubbish basically! I like to support local multi nationals as well as independent shops - but alternatives to online shopping are becoming fewer and fewer.
The Range for craft is absolutely shocking I wouldn’t waste fuel going there for just craft items. I gave the wax and seal set a try and it was rubbish- the wax smoked black it was awful.
I don't go to the Range for Craft products any longer ... like you I find cheap to be over rated especially from the overall finish of a project , made as either a gift or craft Fayre makes . It is a shame . They have done themselves no favours in excluding different brands . Kay xx
I know who he is .. I would doubt he would listen to little old me ha ha .. I have taged them in my video on Facebook and sent them a message via their page. I am also sending an email .. we shall se if we get any response x
Hi Amanda, I agree you are spot on, I would love to see branded craft items back in the Range. There is just nothing to buy, I'm certainly not spending my hard earned money on the selection of their own brand in the Range at the moment, I hope they bring back quality products that crafters want.
well said Gill .. there would be some pretty broke crafter if they did and a bulging Range till thats for sure x
Hi Amanda. I Used to demonstrate for Docrafts and Trimcraft in The Range in Ireland. The array of products was fab!! Shame how it's gone.
Frustrating isn't it .. we all want the stuff, we all save money for the stuff... but we can't get our hands on it sigh !! x
A great review Amanda which does reflect my own thoughts on craft products at the The Range. They have plenty of craft items for children which is not adequate for adult crafters/artists. We want it back how it was don't we .. sigh x
Yeah you certainly are not missing much by not going that's for sure x
Here in the US I've found that all the big box stores are just selling their own brand which to me is useless. If I'm going to spend money on craft supplies I want to buy something that is better quality. We used to have tons of small scrapbook stores and they've all closed. The closest stores that carry name brand quality craft products are either 30 miles or 86 miles from me. It's just not feasible to go to them all time, so I basically order most of what I need online. It's sad.
What a shame x
i totally agree no dies, only odd stamps,no 12x.12 no distress ink or oxide ink.
Yeah Americans are lucky x
nous en France nous n avons pas de magasins comme vous . A part Cultura, très chèr et Action bas game c est tout donc il faut commander😮💨😮💨😮💨

It’s a shame isn’t it xx
The range isn't the only place that has gone down hill. The works doesn't have the same amount/assortment these days.
No it doesn’t very limited x
What about the works?
I am not overly impressed with there either if I am honest x

I do understand where you are coming from. Apart from hobbycraft, the UK doesn't have a dedicated craft shop.
Well yours has more paper than mines does they barely have any
i think the same
The Range for craft is absolutely shocking I wouldn’t waste fuel going there for just craft items. I gave the wax and seal set a try and it was rubbish- the wax smoked black it was awful.
~🙏💙🙏~
here we only have ACTION.
The Range has really lost opportunities with their craft stuff now. It's no longer my go to for papercafts, which is a big shame
Yeah it it so sad as so many of us it seems love the opportunity to buy in store and not online x
I don't go to the Range for Craft products any longer ... like you I find cheap to be over rated especially from the overall finish of a project , made as either a gift or craft Fayre makes . It is a shame . They have done themselves no favours in excluding different brands . Kay xx
Yes it was a big let down x
You may want to go online and find the name of their CEO to send him an email 🤞
I know who he is .. I would doubt he would listen to little old me ha ha .. I have taged them in my video on Facebook and sent them a message via their page. I am also sending an email .. we shall se if we get any response x
I think the Range produces the poorest quality craft products I have seen anywhere.
They do now didn't used to such a shame x
