Oh, Ron... characters. It's tough being a character, I must say. Always love your videos.

Hi Ron, always loved that tune, really like that Ab7 at the end instead of the Bb7, I've been fooling around with that lV-7 bVll(7) sub for the ll V ,Thanks for the lesson...

I remember Freddie the Freeloader as one of Red Skelton's characters....predating the Miles Davis tune.

Great tutorial!!! I still have a question though on improvisation. I know in the head the tune is played twice. First time with Ab7 at the 11th measure then Bb7 on the 2nd time around at the 11th measure. However, it seems like on all the improvisations on this tune the Ab7 at the 11th measure is played throughout the improvisation. Is that basically what's going on?

Thanks and yes exactly. Most players only go to the Bb7 at the very end of the performance. Good luck!

Just caught a vidio on you tube called The Making of Kind Of Blue (reelblack) and they said Freddy Freeloader was a guy that was always trying to get in the club free, so Miles called him Freddy Freeloader...

is it a phrase of endearment or more derogatory?

@@nomennescio317 good question, could be either one, all depends how one looks at it....
