- Hey Friends, in today's video I will take you along the journey as I restyle my new Rainbow High Maria Garcia doll. Maria has been on the market for a couple of months now, but I wanted to wait until she went on sale to pick her up and give her a proper restyle. I was honestly quite shocked by the end result and you might be too.

I'm mexican and I think your restyle is waaaaay more accurate and interesting than the og one which I think leaned in a bit too stereotypical
Awwh thanks that’s definitely what I was going for. ✌🏾❤️
The restyle is so lovely. Her curly hair and the use of the bun gives her a more cohesive appearance. She’s decked out in celebratory clothing. She should have an equally celebratory and “fancy” hairstyle. The biggest mistake with this doll was PAINTING the face instead of making a mask. As you noted, the paint can be scratched. In addition, it makes her eyes look weird, like they aren’t looking in the same direction. Another entertaining and informative video. 👍🏻🌹👍🏻
Yes she definitely needed a more fancy look! Especially with that dress! Thank you as usual Carol! ❤️❤️❤️
Mexican here! I think the doll is okay, I'm not offended by her but I do think there were some weird decisions. First, red isn't really a Día de Muertos color. The celebration is full of yellows, oranges, purples, pinks, blues, but not red so I think it's weird that her dress is red. Also the purple hair is pretty but it's not really my cup of tea. I would rather have a culturally accurate doll with black or dark brown hair. And the roses... why did they give her roses instead of flores de cenpazúchitl??? (marigold) That's literally THE flower traditionally used for día de muertos but they didn't use them for her crown
Yeah I think thats why its so important for RH to commission artist from the culture the doll is representing so things like this doll happen! Maybe next time though. 😪✌🏾❤️
I think that purple hair color could've worked better if the dress was golden yellow or orange. As you said it's more accurate, and also yellow and purple are better combo than red and purple. It's hard to explain, but purple and yellow complements each other, while red and purple (especially shades that used in doll) to me kinda ruin each other. They fight, instead of working together
Mexican here, I do feel like MGA could've researched a little bit more about our culture marigolds are a big thing in día de los muertos, even though it is present in the box, I would've loved to see a dress or some accessories with marigolds or sugar skulls which is also a big thing, and btw you did a great job with the restyle, you did us justice! 😄
Your re-style is INCREDIBLE!!! As far as cultural sensitivity goes, people forget that Mexican isn't a race it's a nationality for people living in the North American Country of Mexico. What that means is that just like in the US, there are White, Asian, Black, Indigenous, Jewish, Middle Eastern, South Pacific Islanders, etc. that are Mexican. I'm half Mexican and my Mexican side doesn't celebrate Dia De Los Muertos because they're not Catholic, but they do celebrate Halloween. Sometimes they'll partake of the dressing up and games and candies and foods but not so much the ritualistic part like alters and offerings. Being Mexican is different to every Mexican for we're a diverse people but the unifying factor is that we are ALL Mexican. 💝💖💝💖 Love you, your channel and your talent! 💖💝💖💝
exactly, cultural. she's literally just a cash grab, with little research done. Has nothing to do with race, but everything to do with cultural sensitivity. She's more inspired more by Spain than Mexico. Even Mattel has accurately portrayed these dolls more than rainbow high did. Is she pretty sure, but is it weird that there's fewer Mexican influences, yes
@@Mandoxc If, she's Mexican, she's Mexican. She's a Doll, made to celebrate the Day of the Dead. Don't like it, don't buy it. I think she's culturally accurate to me and I'm honoured the talented team at MGA wanted to celebrate an aspect of Mexican Culture. If, it's a cash grab for you, don't let them grab your cash 😊 I on the other hand will be making it rain, and adding this doll to my collection. Besides, how accurate Barbie's Day of the Dead Dolls are, shopping Mattel Creations is a nightmare! 😐 Have you tried getting a doll through that website! It's too much, too much!
@Abdias Arevalo-Garnica I'm mexican, too. Both my parents are, im first generation, not half like you. I don't have a "mexcian side" Bc that's what I am. And like I said, it's about culture, not race like you weirdly went on about. Im also not denying that she's Mexican, but her influences are Spanish, It's also simply a doll made by a person who lacked the knowledge about Dia de los Muertos. She's a cash grab, overpriced, and inaccurate. I never said she wasn't nice or to not buy her, but is it a little weird and kind of lame that this $100 doll was released by MGA? Yeah, it is. I also still stand by my second point, being that Mattel strives in inclusivity and diversity. Them perfectly; accurately depicting the Day of the Dead.
@@Mandoxc I love How you are gate keeping what it means to be "Mexican" and insist you are an authourity on "Mexican Culture" because you are "Full Mexican". If, you love the Barbie Day of the Dead Dolls buy those. I love this Day of the Dead Doll and it Speaks to me and my Mexican Culture. And, as a Mexican it's accurate to me. PERIODT.
@Abdias Arevalo-Garnica Omg can you not read, are you like young or something? I'm not gate keeping anything omg. Please enjoy her, I think she's pretty too, but there are inaccuracies. Please better your reading comprehension🫶
You did a great job, the doll turned out amazing!
About what you asked, the doll is fairly accurate, of course there are several representations of Día de Muertos for us in Mexico so there are lots of things you can do when it comes to a doll =D
Maybe they could have done some things differently or closer to a really traditional representation but to me she is amazing, I love what they did and I appreciate the doll very much.
Thanks for that insight, I’m always open to learning more about other cultures! Thank you. ✌🏾❤️
Your voice is so cheery, I love it😂😂. Your restyle gives her so much more character
Awwh thank you. I try to be as cheery as possible. 😊✌🏾❤️
The doll looks stunning! I think the bun is a nice finishing touch.
Thank you! I definitely think she needed it!✌🏾❤️
I believe that your dolls is gorgeous, and mixing the super curly hair with Maria's outfit was definitely a fantastic choice, don't worry about her being accurate, El día de muertos is supposed to be fun, so you can express yourself with complete freedom.
The curls did their job 💅
Curl gurl for the win! ✌🏾❤️

Your restyling of Maria is so beautiful!
I love how the curls turned out! I'm not Mexican (I'm Dutch) so I cannot speak on how culturally accurate it is but I think you did a great job with the hairstyle!
Absolutely gorgeous! You did such a great job with her
Awwh thanks! That means a lot. ✌🏾❤️
She looks great.
Thank you! ✌🏾❤️
Def trying this method on Michelle omggg!
I’m sure it will turn out amazing! 😊❤️
Really pretty! I wish she had textured hair since the beginning 💜💜💜💜❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me too! But luckily I was able to achieve it myself. 😂✌🏾❤️
I really like all you Rainbow High video... I wish I could have one....
I love maria garcia so much!!!🤩
OMG the bun idea is so good! I love this restyle😭💖
That’s beautiful ❤😊
The hair look absolutely beautiful!
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
She’s Beautiful
Thank you! She truly is! ✌🏾❤️
I feel like you did her justice! her old style, nuh uh. There was no umph, no pizzazz, no style whatsoever and it made her look boring. I love the curls! I was not impressed with her original look and I have some grievances still but you definitely made her look 100% better. I just wish they had gone with a different dress style than another mermaid gown. like what about those amazing dresses with the big flowy skirts that you see in mariachi bands? I think that would've looked amazing (I am Mexican) and I just wish some more of my culture was shown in this doll. enough rambling I love her new hairdo!
Thank you so much for your comment! Yeah I wish they had of gone with a different style dress for sure. ✌🏾❤️
I think is a good Maria ❤
Great video
Молодцом! Красиво сделал!
Oh no! I hope you did not scratch her face too bad with the pet brush! Your restyle is stunning! I want mine with curls now! 👩🏻🦱
Oh no it wasn’t super noticeable! But thank you! ❤️
Great video as usual. Hate the face paint….mask would have been better. But your restyle was fab!
Do you any setting lotion on the hair for the curls or is it just water?
Thank you! And I use the setting lotion and a little water. ✌🏾❤️
I love this doll, but I do not love the price they sold her at
Yeah the price definitely wasn’t all that.
I wish the mask is removable !
its not a mask, its face paint, mexicans do that makeup in dia de muertos
That definitely would have been a nice feature! ✌🏾❤️
Can the mask come off? I wonder if she will have a normal skin tone if the mask is removed with acetone? 😮😅
Okay so while dia de Muertos is celebrated mostly in Mexico, it is also celebrated in other Latin/Spanish countries (including Spain). I mention this because her dress takes inspiration from the dresses there, the flamenco dress. I think many Mexicans were offended Maria Garcia doesn't look like a traditional Mexican dia de Muertos woman but maybe they don't realize dia de Muertos is celebrated worldwide. 🤔
I get you, but you kind of rebutted your own thought. It's observed in mainly Mexico. It's not a stretch to assume she's Mexican and, therefore, would be influenced by Mexico! lol It's valid for us to have some sort of issue with her style
Thank you for your input! 😊✌🏾❤️
I'm Mexican and while I don't think her design is insulting or anything, I just think it's ugly lol especially the skeleton undershirt??!?!? like what?!
Yeah not my favorite aspect of her outfit. 😂✌🏾❤️
Mexican isn’t a race it’s an nationality and ethnicity. You said you were black so you couldn’t really speak on it, but there are black Mexicans and there are white Mexicans. The most common Mexican we see or think of are mestizo meaning they are usually mixed with white and indigenous.
Don’t worry I’m not canceling you or gathering up offended to people to deplatform you lol. I just thought it was important to share because a lot of darker skinned and black Mexicans don’t really have their existence validated.
Thank you for education! I appreciate it. ❤️
