Childe is amazing. riptide is broken, amazing burst damage, and great hydro application which makes him an excellent enabler (and having good AoE dps).

Im still in shock at how satisfying the clip at 1:27 is lmao.
*Specification regarding double swirl Guoba tech : to swirl guoba's pyro infusion you want to NA on sucrose then E : Sucrose NA (prior to guoba exclamation mark) then E to swirl both. Sucrose's NA will swirl hydro then her E will swirl pyro from Guoba. So Sucrose NA-E. Showcase here: streamable.com/a0ofkl (removed the old showcase clip as i didn't NA)
edit: to answer the question, Yes, you can ranged burst -> e with Shimanewa to proc the set effect, BUT that does not change the fact that it'll make your rotation cost more energy/worse, because: : 40 energy is something you can realistically generate in a rotation (60 - 20 u g et refunded), if you run Shimenawa you need to generate 55 (60 - 20 + another 15) which isn't realistic unless you have quite a few ER substats, which equates to less DPS overall. The energy loss is STILL significant and everything I said about that set is still accurate. Could've went into a bit more detail though. Set not bad overall, esp for fireworks team tho.

when people say childe was fun to play i was having doubts, since the only character that i've enjoyed the gameplay so far is beidou and xiao, but everytime those riptide marks explode especially with a lot enemies, it's so satisfying, and it just makes you want to kill every mob in the game just to see those riptides😆

If you use beidou with him, it actually becomes more or less like hiss boss fight phase two, sparks and damage numbers everywhere.
I honestly think Mihoyo loves Childe the most out of any character in Genshin.
The gave him a unique E skill, unique Q, hydro element, unique enabler playstyle that allows him to pair with any sub DPS or support and prevents power creep, 3 damn reruns and the Cape don't forget the Cape.

@@oniid6212 Eula's cape doesnt really change though? It's similar to Kaeya's, where the cape is part of the overall model. (I think. I dont have Eula, so im not very familiar with her model) What makes Childe's cape notable is the fact that during his creation, the developers encountered SO MUCH glitching with his cape. His cape kept clipping, the hydro effect that was active during his melee stance didnt look right, etc. It got so annoying for them that they literally had to create a SEPARATE model just for Childe's cape. So Childe is a character made of 2 models: the standard model, and his cape. So yeah, from a development perspective, Childe's cape was a huge deal because of all the effort put into it 😁

@@oniid6212 oh! Apologies then. Hmm, I suppose she's the 2nd character to make use of that same principle then, having another model for her character. Childe was highly experimental for the developers: so it make sense that some of things that are present in newer characters were first seen with Childe, like the scarf. Childe's weapon change was also a difficult thing about him to develop - archer to melee stance - since it essentially employed 2 playstyles and model action sets. Just like with Eula, Childe was the prototype to Raiden's kit, where her polearm changes to swordsmanship in her ult. Childe will always be special to the developers I think, considering how hard they worked on him. Also makes sense why they want to release him in banners often too lol
After playing Tartaglias story quest he has quickly become my favorite character in the game.

I got Childe unintentionally during his second banner, and slept on him until I watched your earlier videos on him. Childe with Beidou, Ei, and Bennett has been my favorite team as of late. Even though Beidou's burst doesn't work with Ei's burst attacks, the team is so fun to play. Going from Bennett to Beidou to Childe back to Bennett (which is enough to fill Ei's counters at this point) into Ei and back to Bennett as everyone's bursts & CDs are ready to repeat again is immensely satisfying. It's the first team where everything just feels in perfect balance, and it's never not gratifying.
I’ve been building Beidou for a while now, and I have all the other characters built already. When she’s ready, i’m definetely giving this a shot, since i’ve done something similar (replacing Beidou with sucrose)
@@shrub2071 It's really fun! Beidou's been my main since 1.0 and I've been fortunate enough to get her to C6 as a free to play player. This team is currently my best and I could easily switch it to a Xiangling team but it's just too gratifying how many instances of damage are on screen at once with the Beidou team between her burst, Ei's skill, Childe's attacks and riptide and the constant electrocharge. Her burst is up Bennett should be ready to go again so Ei can burst and give everyone energy again to reset the rotation. It's like all four are pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly with each other.
Childe and Beidou combo is insane. I always have both of them in my party. My party is consist of Childe, Beidou, Yanfei and Rosaria/Fischl/Zhongli
yeah I got him during his 3rd rerun I think and I saw other people pull him and get happy so when I got him while doing random pulls (or trying to get xingqiu) I was like
hm, he looks nice and strong, I'll put him on my team
I remember he was on a team with ningguang but I dont remember anything else other than being confused on why he had two different weapons
He is probably the most flexible, team comp rotation encouraging dps. Hydro, so has access to reactions, but lets his supports shine in the reaction department while he kills things. Not like other dps characters where u pop a shield and a Q and go ham with your dps
I just became a C0 Childe main yesterday and not gonna lie his gameplay is my favorite so far.Also I feel like his cooldown issues are a bit exaggerated

His cooldown isnt bad if you know how to rotate after 6-10seconds. By the time he returns he will have his skill blades

I agree with all of you! With proper rotations his e isn't an issue at all but most players who think his cooldown is' bad' aren't understanding that.I was thinking of getting his C1 but I will feel like its not a necessity for me because I don't struggle with his e at all
"bit" Dude people literally skip him because they think he have some 45secs cd or smth, and I don't blame them tbh. Even I used to think that childe is only good at C6 and is trash otherwise but, tomorrow when I got him and I used him with xiangling and bannet, I realised how overrated his constellations are. Like I obviously need to swap to benny/xiangling to generate particles for burst, and in that time childe Cd ends which made me realise, even If I had C6, what's the use of it if need to swap out anyways. He fr is very misunderstood, but my personal favourite now :-)

@@catlebat8124 I don’t know if you’re confused but, you aren’t guaranteed the rate up 5 star, I lost and got QiQi around 50-60 wishes, and 66 wishes later I was lucky and I got Childe. It added up to around 120 wishes. Do you even play?

I've had Childe since he came out and somehow got him to C2 by pulling in his last rerun. I was trying to get some four stars, but instead he wanted more love haha. I love him and I've been maining him since I got him. I absolutely loved learning how to build him and learning how to get him better. Thanks for the guide!
Thank you for the video! I've only been playing for a month and a half, and I got into Genshin because I liked Childe's design. I was not expecting him to get a rerun so soon, so I'm pretty lucky, saved up and got him in 50/50. I'm not much of an analyst and honestly guides like yours save me a ton of time! Childe works great with Raiden, I love the electro charged team. If you have c6 sara it's even better, as c6 sara will buff allies with 60% crit damage increase when using her elemental skill and burst

I finally managed to get my first Childe! I wasn’t playing yet in his first banner and was saving for Zhongli’s rerun on Childe’s rerun banner - so I didn’t miss this opportunity again and WOW he’s absolutely amazing! The Riptide effect is so satisfying and he works well with my electro characters and Xiangling. I’m so glad I finally got him!!!

Honestly childe is the best argument for xingqiu being the best character in genshin.
Having the 2 of them opens up so many abyss teams that would otherwise be restricted due to xingqiu not being able to be on both.
I agree. Xingqiu is the most premium support unit. Every pyro, cryo and electro dps wants him. So having Childe open up team combinations.
I agree! I use Xingqiu with my Hu Tao team and Childe in my Raiden, Xiangling, Bennett team. Both crucial supports even though Childe adds lots of damage as well.
Childe is a lot more flexible than Xingqiu in term of team comps. Xingqiu’s Hydro application is single target so he’s forever stuck as the Vape support for Pyro characters. Vape is OP so obviously Xingqiu is very good, but he’s basically permanently stuck in a vape comp.
Childe on the other hand can be used in vape comps, electro-charged and even freeze comp. His Hydro application is more versatile, which allows you to have an easier time to build teams, especially in Abyss.
@@Aliens1337 ayaka and xingqiu make a very strong permafreeze comp tho, i wouldnt say he's tied to vape teams only (although i agree that vape is the most significant)
@@Aliens1337 I don't think there is a viable childe freeze comp that wouldnt benefit more from running Xingqiu and actually letting the cryo set carry dps.
Same with electro charge, much better off with something like Sucrose, Beidou, Xingqiu, fischl to consistently swirl and boost EM.
Childe is good in the way that he works with Beidou and Xiangling teams, which would otherwise be locked to the 1 copy of Xingqiu and don't already have the on-field "carry" position filled.
As the on field carry position gets more crowded in the future childe will face rough competition. Not that it really matters since he will still easily clear abyss and this game is casual af
hey zyox and anyone reading this just letting you know that another reason it is a lot better to use his ult in ranged form is because using his skill right before using ult (like done at 0:09) can often lead to a vaporize being triggered by his e and not the ult resulting in a lot less damage

yeah. alternatively u can also run back before e-q for melee vape, but thats true it can messup the vape which can be very annoying :(

My man has been carrying me in 36 star-ring the abyss ever since his 1st rerun. With raiden now in the mix my rotations feel a lot more smoother, no issue’s with energy and cooldowns.

I guess E Raiden and E Childe then have Xiangling or Sucrose, Venti, or Kazuha for the last slot. You can even have Bennett. After 10-15 seconds in melee, you can go destroy the rest with Raiden. That's what I do.
@@ampalayafhisahfi @Nasean hall i use the standard vape comp but with raiden, (childe xiangling bennet raiden ) childe applies hydro so fast it doesn't disrupt xianglings vape even if raiden's E is present in addition to that you don't need to funnel as much energy for xiangling since raiden can pretty much get it back up to full + raiden E can boost up the teams burst. The best part about this comp is that you don't need to worry about childe's downtime as much since raiden takes 7s of field time by the time you swap out you'd have your skill up
I won my first 50/50 when I got childe (finally I skipped him in his first rerun and I was regretting it) and I’ve had so much fun playing with him honestly and if you’re having doubts wether to pull him or not, I personally had a lot of fun playing with him and I do recommend people who don’t have him to pull for him but it’s your decision at the end

Been waiting for this after I saw you guides in the past few weeks. I finally got childe and he is really fun but I need guides. Thank you for this, you explained very well. Nice
Childe is my favorite character in the game and has been since his 1.1 banner (the sad part is I had to go to exactly the 180th wish to get him). While you can argue that most other dps type characters do a lot more solo damage then him, I think he will retain his value for much longer then characters like hutao, ganyu, xiao etc. mostly because his true damage potential lies in enabling other characters damage allied to his own solo damage (the most common example being childe and xiangling) so one moment or another the characters that I mentioned before will be power crept and xiangling will be powercrept, but childe, since he enables another characters damage, will still remain while the character he is enabling will always be getting powercrept and his teams will only get better as we get stronger off field dpses that he can enable
“viridescent hunt is overall the 4 star I recommend the most and what I believe to be his best 4 star”

I'm starting to think that the best kind of buff that miHoYo could give to Childe would be upgrading his constellations, especifically C1 and C6 to give him a better DPS output and making worth investing on his constellations.
If they buffed Zhongli so much that it expanded a lot his playstyle during 1.3, then it wouldn't be insane to upgrade/change a bit Childe's constellations.
The thing is, I don't think balance changes exist in genshin impact. After the anemo buff, we have only been getting bug fixes on characters (somewhat of a buff) and indirect buffs, whether that be new weapons (Polar Star), artifact sets (Heart of Depth), or new elements (dendro reactions). Actual balance changes don't exist anymore and I feel that we need to start accepting that.
@@darkstroyor its more to the legal issues of gacha character. Coz they cant nerf a character or change how the kit does.. they can get sued.. all they can do is pump the numbers up not mechanically

they *can* easily re-do a whole kit if they felt like, honkai is a gacha like genshin and there we get many changes all the time
only reason they dont is cause they dont care to buff (unless they get so pressured they have to, e.g.: zhongli,) and they also dont want the backlash from nerfing (hence why very few gachas do, tho legally nothing stops them from doing so, and miyohohas enough money to fight any cases which they wouldnt lose anyway)
either way, as sad as it is, zhongli was the exception that proves how unwilling they are to buff
they had to be threatened by everyone in both CN and NA, along with even the potential of their GOVERNMENT going after them for anti patriotism, for zhongli to get any changes
accept it guys, chances of anyone else ever receiving a buff is nearly 0
That would be really good...but all I'm asking for is him to be able to do plunge attacks in melee stance. I've almost killed him multiple times because I forget.
His C4 should be changed from the Riptide effect activating automatically every 4 seconds to basically like Yoimiya where every other character can also procc it. That would be really nice.

I just wanted to specify for the Shimenawa set, the ranged Burst recovers 20 energy for him so if you were to use it and then use his E, the 4p effect would proc.

yeah i updated pinned but gonna answer here as well in case people skip it, that's true and i shouldve explained it in more detail, BUT rotation still costs more energy. Typically, 40 energy is something you can realistically generate in a rotation, if you run Shimenawa you need to generate 55 which isn't realistic unless you have ER substats, which equates to less DPS overall. will update pinned tho i should've been clearer. But the energy loss is STILL significant.

Great guide and helped me to decide whether the new weapon is worth it or not. I wanted to add, that "increased skill damage", whether it's from stringless or from the polar star, also affects the riptide procs since they are considered skill damage (that's also why it's so easy to stack all 4 stacks on the polar star with childe). It's not that big of a deal though.
I just got him and he’s literally so satisfying to play. I was kinda struggling how to build but thankfully the king zy0x got me 😌
The fact that i scrounge my over world looking for groups of mobs just to AEO riptide them shows how fun he is
guyun has multiple spots, the two groups near cecilla garden are my go tos, or lower tier vv domain
Suggestion, go to Tianqiu valley mountain waypoint( the one above dunyu ruins), glide up north and drop down, and you'll find a pack of pyro slimes, kill them with ur ranged burst and enjoy the most satisfying vaporise ever

Another useful comp I use sometimes is Zhongli in the flex spot. It is good for stages that require less dps but you have to withstand constant attacks. If using Millelith set you will also get an extra 20% bonus damage on top. This is hard to do but sometimes you can snapshot that Xiangling burst while also buffing your Childe at the same time. If you give him Favonius Lance then he can also funnel energy into Xiangling when you are refreshing your shields or dropping meteors.
Few things to note: 1. Shimenawas uptime 4pcs uptime is almost guaranteed when u use ranged burst bc. ure left with exactly 15 energy
2. Elemental skill damage also contributes to your Riptide procs' damage while in your meele stance

Just so you know, shimenawas does work with ranged burst since it refunds 20 energy upon cast. It doesn’t make his rotations weird, it just means there’s less uptime on his ult unless you run a battery team like raiden or double electro or something

Pretty new player. Just started as Baal banner was ending. I have built up XL and Beidou so I was happy to blow all my primos to get Childe. Can't wait to power him up!!
Zyox, his ranged burst refunds 20 energy so it doesn't interfere with shimenawa's effect. you can do a burst and immediately a skill and you get the best of both worlds.
I've been using childe as main since his first banner but I never got to properly build and and understand his gameplay fully (bc life priorities). but I think I'll be referring to ur guide the most from now on, bc of how comprehensive it is, so I thank u so much for this one! ^^

@@dreonnac3169 Base Qiqi is actually very good. I wouldn’t be too upset if I got C0 Qiqi. Getting her constellations by losing 50/50 is the painful part since you basically get nothing from it, and you can’t avoid it. It’s pure RNG.

Another great video, Zy0x. I'm pretty interested in seeing how Childe fits with Thoma when he releases. Sounds like Thoma's burst gives you pyro application off field and I don't think it overtakes Childe's hydro in melee. Could be pretty good.

I started playing Genshin in March and didn`t understand the game but Childe was my most wanted character and when I got him on his 1 rerun I was so madly happy. Since then Ive been playing him non stop and many characters have changed since my 1 initial team but he still remains ^^
