OMGoodness!!! This is so exciting!!! You are such an amazing man brother!! So many would have just continued to do their excavation and no regard for the babies that were living there. I got a call at work Friday from a panicked lady that stated they needed help removing a bunch of snakes from a water meter box, a few hours later l removed TWO Dekay snakes that were very pregnant.. They had dozens of babies last night, and they are so small that this baby lizard could easily eat a few ... How these snakes find small enough prey in the wild to survive is a mystery to me! Maybe baby worms?
