It's crazy how powerful that final E chord is. Spectacular, haunting and just damn right perfect. Such a simple, yet spectacular way to end a masterpiece.
I was 14 years old. A friend who was heavily into music got the album on its day of release. He called myself and a few other friends into his house and played the record. We listened without speaking a word. We heard "A day in the life". When the record finished we all looked at each other amazed, each of us thinking "What just happened ?". What had happened was the world had changed fundamentally and *forever* by hearing that song. I'm 67 now, and that moment is still one of the most profound events in my life. I listen to it now and it still takes my breath away. It's probably the most important song ever written.
Yes. Vocal harmonies are very ELO (that’s a compliment btw).Leaps and bounds above today’s nonsense. As a musician/producer, my little bit of constructive criticism is the crash cymbal playing constantly throughout. Otherwise 👍
It was banned by the bbc but back then in London at least, we used to listen to the pirate ship 'Radio London' (aka 'Big L'), they played it without interruption, both sides. I can clearly remember hearing it, and as a 14 y/o was stunned, and still feel the same 52 years later

Well done. My favorite song of all time, knitting the greatest musical minds in history, and that includes Ringo's lyrical drumming and George Martin's subtle touch which is never truly appreciated.
The greatest song ever written in my opinion, along with It's Alright Ma (I'm only bleeding) by Bob Dylan, The End by The Doors, Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones, Baba O'Reilly by The Who, Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin. Wow. That song you offered us expresses very eloquently why your reviews and capsules on the Beatles are so enthusiastic. You are a proud carrier of the psychedelic-pop flame first lit in 1967 with SPLHCB and MMT....
I was at work and this song came on via Spotify mix that a 29 year old female co-worker had played. I was surprised that she did not know the song. In my Beatles exuberance I explained to her how this was one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded. The response was an unresounding 'ehhh, it's okay' followed by the death knell phrase any Beatles enthusiast could hear. 'The Beatles are a bit overhyped' I had to forgive her ignorance as she was young and unfamiliar with everything The Beatles had influenced from recording to artists writing their own songs to even a band being a band and not a band with a single leader. I tried to explain the finer details of four-track recording and the masterpiece of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club. While she understood intellectually, it didn't really phase her. Having started my recording with a single handheld cassette recorder progressing to overdubbing by linking 2 handheld cassette recorders then to finally getting my first tascam 424 four track, I understood reduction mixes etc etc (my favorite book had been The Beatles recording sessions by Mark Lewisohn -a MUST read for anyone interested in recording- and I absorbed every piece of text in it. So in a sense I had a great head start on how to use a four track efficiently) I recall the first time I heard this song. I was 18 and was a little initiated in the Beatles but had never heard one of their albums yet. I moved in with my father and stepmother and she had the entire Beatles collection on LP. I put this album on and enjoyed it. When a day in the Life came on I was blown away. The haunting Melody of the opening verses.. to it's amazing crescendo... I was hooked.

Only tip would be to work with a little more background harmonies working as their own melody. alsomaking sure you dont write anything that might be out of your range, really great song man, cant wait to listen to the rest of the album
I'm a bass player and I can tell you that Ringo is a great drummer to play with. he leaves room and yet keeps continuity and does some incredibly emotional drum fills. he's telepathic. he's on fire.
the first time i hesrd that song i got so sad because i could immediately tell it was such a beautiful thing and i would probably never create something that beautiful
I remember Paul saying that the three of them knew the moment they heard Ringo, he was the one. Unanimously. They truly were four bodies sharing one fabulous brain! Mick Jagger called them the four headed monster.
There is musical magic in this song that you can feel from the first note to the last. I think everyone has subconsciously felt what I am about to say but I've never heard anyone else capture the thought and put it into words. Lennon is singing matter-of-factly about life and death and how all of it's meaningfulness and trivialities can be gone in an instant, then these 24 bars come into the song, and at first you wonder why, what is the musical purpose of this atonal intrusion...then it dawns on you; The Beatles and George Martin, whether consciously or not, created a musical representation of the sum total of all our lives on this planet, as do those orchestral instruments in their disjointed ascent, we scurry haphazardly around on distinctly different paths, changing directions and living in uniquely different dis-harmonic ways until that final note....where we all go out through the same portal to whatever is next, the long sustaining piano chord that is the fading echo of our entire life. This is part of why this song is so moving and powerful and how it reaches you on levels you aren't even consciously aware of.
This video... Wow! Being a big fan of the beatles I enjoy watching this kind of videos, they teach me every time more and more about my favourite artists! And can I just say that your song is a bomb, amazing, and the Beatles' influence is so evident (obviously in a good way), I can see how much you're inspired by their work and music!
I never heard anybody say that Ringo was a bad drummer. I’ve heard that comment about Pete Best. Ringo is not the greatest drummer in Rock n’ Roll but he was what The Beatles needed at the time he had a different feel. He his the most influential drummer in Rock n’ Roll because of him being in The Beatles
I saw George Martin's interview about "Day in the Life" and this is actually better. And, may I add, I was one of millions of high schoolers stood in line until mid night to be among the first to buy this unbelievable album.
I love your work. Being a huge Beatles fan myself since sun day nigh February 9th 1964, I truly feel your appreciation for the work of the group. Even referring to them as “a group” doesn’t seem to do them justice. They stood completely alone, to this day, as the preeminent RICK and roll musical movement of the century! I listened to the tune from your new record album. Clearly derivative but clearly Beatlesque! What a wonderful place to derive from! For anyone to even say they hear The Beatles in your songs is without question something bands have been trying to capture just a glimpse of for the past 50 years! So, if anyone says that your music is derivative, simple say “thank you mate!” And always take it as a compliment of the highest order! Good luck my friend in everything you do! Peace, Rick
Easily the greatest song of all time. With context it makes it even better. Even bands today haven’t gone past it in terms of being a head of there time. Also did you ask them before doing the video? Maybe that’s why it gets blocked?
Fun fact: The final chord of A Day In The Life was the inspiration for the THX signature sample sound in movies. Also, nice Penny Lane reference in your song!

So, if anyone says that your music is derivative, simple say “thank you mate!” And always take it as a compliment of the highest order!
Good luck my friend in everything you do!
Peace,
Rick
I’m so glad it still plays to this day
I always enjoy your videos, and thanks for sharing Cannonball Express...quite a pleasing sound!
Holy shit! I was jamming at the end! 👍
That was a magically inspired brave song you did..... thanks for sharing..... “till never” is a good one too...
Nice video😄and I love your song! Mix of bowie and beatles
Great video. Bad though you haven't mentioned the amazing bass line Paul came up with. Pure magic.
its ironic that this specific video, that talked about how small details may become reasons to censor art, was deleted for a short clip
This was the video that introduced me to your channel. Im glad that happened
Damn man thank you so much for this video I hope you and your music go far❤
Cannonball express at the end was absolutely awesome! You perfectly captured the vibe of the Beatles while making it your own. Great job!
