Sweet video Justin, really awesome work. Also, congrats on the Pure Fishing sponsorship! You deserve it man, a lot of dedication to quality and authenticity in your videos. Keep up the great work!
I love ur channel!
Congrats on the sponsorship brother!!! Shows the quality of your content!! Keep it coming!!
This reel is the real deal. Penn hit it out of the park. Very pleased with mine
I also heard that the 2500 Version of the Authority will have the dura-drag drag system like the 3500 and up models of the Penn slammer III and IV, the current drag system of the 2500 of the III and IV is the HT-100 drag system so imo that’s a big upgrade especially in the 2500.
Congrats to the PENN reel development team. The Authority spinning reel just won "Best New Saltwater Reel" at the ICAST Show!
Who were the other nominees? No flagships from the big two.
@@kamadowoah4584 Beat both, plus another dozen contenders in the SW reel category.
@@tunanorth again what were daiwa n shimanos nominees?
@@kamadowoah4584 Don't remember exactly what they entered. I am sure they have that info.
Nice day on the water with great catches. I think a large part of your appeal is your simpler fishing approach, such as the Gheenoe for your boat. It’s entry level or a little above which showcases your skill and most of your subscribers can relate. Plugging a $500 reel is probably a waste of time and a turn-off for some of us. While we all would love a boat full of expensive gear, I think it’s more interesting to see someone catch the same fish on a $100 reel. It shows you don’t need to spend a pile of money to catch great fish.
Justin,
By the way congrats on your wedding, beautiful bride. Watched her new gardening show. Love the effort you both put into your work.
I use and just bought a Penn slammer 4 3500 series waiting to break it in May. Have quite a few penns.
Thanks again.
That slammer is gonna be my next reel. Awesome 👌
More details about both the fenwick rods on both 2500 and 5500 please.
Justin, I love the effort you put into fishing. I also like the truthful of the days lows.
I am a old snook fisherman as well. I fish Southwestern florida around Venice when I travel down from VA. Love your channel. Bought NLBN lures to try in May. Thanks for your time and love for fishing.
Absolute banger vid, not a boring moment in the whole vid!!
I appreciate the way you treated that tarpon!
Another great video! Nice job on that tarpon. Your ability to get fish to eat is insane! 👍🏻
The reel looks nice, I couldn't justify the price tag over a shimano or even a slammer. I just want to say that most people who see a video like this wouldn't notice the amount of skill you have from solo operation of the canoe to the skip casts among other things.
Glad to be subbed, gonna see your merch tab now.
Dude the drone shot tho , I have a channel myself and I been trying to do that for a while. You got good quality content man 🔥
This reel is a steal at almost half the price of stella n just as good , i have 4500 which weighs 425gm similar of stella 6000 sw which i have too, cast as good , dureable, torque , high quality components, alot easier to take apart than stella, well done penn , great review .
nice video Justin , keep up the good work!
Buddy you don't mess around. I love ypur videos just ordered me some nlbn and picked up 2 Penns. I'm ready to get out there and sleep em like you.
Any knot issues with the 5500? I dont have as much line on the spool as you do . Wind knots left and right , took a shim out ..got better . But line seems to still be hitting first eye when casting coming out of the reel . What lb test are you using ?
bro should install a lil livewell to the Gheenoe would be so sick. They should make them
They will put then in for you, they are custom made.
They do make them! My gheenoe has a really nice live well and ur keeps fragile threadfins and everything alive forever
Intro shot straight 🔥
Love the channel. I live in sw florida and wondering best way to find live mullet? I cast net greenies and pins easy but seen to find it hard to find mullet. thx in advance.
That stud tarpon on that 2500 new penn reel. Clicker sound good.
Very cool how you caught that black drum!
Ive owned a penn spinfisher 6500 and I just cannot get over the fact that Penn has just historically never managed to drop the weight on any of their reels....The first time I picked up a 14000 Shimano Ci4 and I was like this is lighter than the Spinfisher 6500....I think as you get older and you can't cast the whole day will a 700 gram reel you appreciate the Shimanos more even if you have to pay and arm and a leg for them...
Dude just got my first 100lb tarpon down in Captiva Island last week. Fought him for about 30 mins and finally got him boatside for some nice pics! It was weird. Got her on the very first cast at the crack of daylight on a big live pinfish. What an awesome fighting fish!😎
Nothing like a Tarpon fight!
@@chrisjones720 you know it! Esp those big girls🦈🦈👍👍😎
Live so close to captiva amazing fishing
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Outro shot straight 🔥
You should design a shirt saying "He ate" with your initials JM stylized
Hey love the channel, but I was wondering what your aerator setup is
Epic day. Love following your channel!
Insane tarpon fight!
Are the gears on the 5500 still smooth?
What’s a good Live/Dead bait spinning combo?
Let the battle begin 👍
epic day man. some amazing eats! youre becoming my new favorite
Did this replace the torque spinning reel? I don’t see the torque II spinning reel on their website anymore.
Justin with the w bud as per usual
Amazing fish, you're good.
What line do you use ?
This seems like a pretty solid middle ground that Penn was missing for a long time. Falls right between the Slammer 4 and Torque 2 as far as I can see. Definitely a promising option for those that want a top tier reel at a reasonable price.
Any experience w/ the torque 2? I am tempted to get one, but would like to hear some first hand experience.
@@taylorhickman84 no. However, after further research this seems to be an improvement over even the Torque 2, and for less money. On paper at least. In particular this has better sealing, more bearings and stainless steel gears. Where as the Torque 2 brass gears.
Replaced it
this reel is essentially replacing the torque...and isa much better reel. the torques were not popular
Big difference is the line lay on this vs the slammer. Much tighter
is that rod a 7 foot or 8 foot, cus i’m tryna get this rod is it a H or MH???, Love the vids 🙏
Such a sick video
Better than the slammer IV! Certainly priced more. I need details, specifications, current copy of your fishing license etc..
The only big difference is the IPX and the main gear. The main gear is made of stainless steel but the specs are the same as the Slammer except maybe the gear ratio.
That reel looks awesome!
Curious, shooting slog 3?
What is a cheap good inshore combo you recommend?
Personally, Daiwa BG/Penn battle 3 2000-4000, TFO pro or Fenwick HMG inshore, maybe a medium for soft plastics and some hard baits.
Daiwa BG 4000-6000 Medium heavy or heavy for using live/dead bait or targeting bigger fish in general.
I use 8lb braid on my BG 2000, and battle 3 1000.
15lb braid in my Stella 4000, but it would probably be better to use 20lb - 30lb for using bait on the bigger setups I recommend.
I could recommend cheaper gear but this is what I’d save for at least.
@@fantomphoenix6170 thank you so much
@@evanrudd9392 second this 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
Really cool man living the dream
Seems like the sizes are bigger than the Slammer 3/4’s. I’m using the 4500’s and it’s perfect size. But the 2500 looks just as big as the 4500 slammers.
It looks like you're really paying for the upgrade in the IPX and the stainless steel main gear.
Are you fishing on a canoe , what brand
Damn dude that’s a day. Spoiled down there lol
I'm getting the 10500 model for Christmas.
Great video and fish! Ever make it to Stuart FL hit me up, fishins on me bro.
The Penn fierce 3 with ht-100 drag is just as good, silky smooth and reliable for 90 bucks...it's not ipx8 but I've dunked it more than once and with a good wash and re-oil it's all good .
Fierce is a great series, just not even close to the Authority Spec wise
Ready
Where do you fish at
are you gonna be restocking the red fish shirts or bringing back the tan snook hats anytime soon?
Redfish shirts yes in a few weeks.
@@justin_menendez woooo hooo!!! fill me in for 1 large :)
Any idea if there is a new spinfisher coming out ?
I’m not sure.
@@justin_menendez thanks for the reply much love from South Africa
I am no expert but.. why don't you turn your trolling motor away from structure when you hook up?
Good video
can someone please tell my the exact spec of the rod with the 5500?
Let me hold that 2500 when your done with it bro!!
I have three penn slammers and I can say drag is almost the same. I actually drop one of my rods in the water and I found it three hours later. Only thing that needed replacement was the bearing at the bail.
Gulp shrimp are great but the durability lacks
When can I buy this???
very good
I’m getting it!
Great video. A little hard to enjoy with the amount of ads youtube is pushing; About 8 in your 20 minute video. Reel looks good👍🏽
Nice 😊
Mantap spotnya... salam kenal 🙏 from Indonesia
This guy deserves more subs everyone subscribe
When is fencwick realesing those rods?
They show up in stores first so people have already been getting them in Bass Pro.
@@justin_menendez thank you
JM!, you know I need to know the weight on that 25 hundo!!! >
Hey Justin,
Do you know or can you find out the meaning of the ipx8 for that reel.
I know an ipx8 rating means that that reel had to have been submersed in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes and had no water ingress. Does it still have that ipx8 rating if the reel accidentally spins underwater. Love Penn and been waiting for a reel like this for ocean kayak fishing. Thank in advance.
Lucky dog getting to test gear like this. Congrats
its not designed to be reeled under water like a van staal. It can be dunked to the specs you described no problem. You got the IPX8 meaning spot on. -Assistant Manager SW Reels PENN Fishing
@@fishmaster797 thanks for the update
Aesthetically looks inspired by shimano
Tip for ya use a kale hook when fly lining
Woot woot

I ones hooked a poon under a Key West dock that jumped and knocked its self out cheating me out
of the fight
Yo let's go!
Love your videos and congrats on the sponsorship! That reel still looks like it lays line like sh1t
looks exactly like any other penn reel LOL
Would have liked to see that traditional gold bling on a penn reel. Looks like a copycat Stella. I'll pay a little more for a trq gold or silver
I have new Stella Fk 2022,that reel is Ferarri Testarossa . Im thinking about equipment in general,3 high end reels and 3 high end rods can cover almost everything and any scenarios, but we have 10 different combinations and maybe more money spent on something which is not half of the quality like this 3 high end stuffs.
need to come out with better designs, looks like the slammer.
Circle hooks are a never
Hi
Let’s go
What’s up justin
I’ll trade you a New G Loomis NRX for some Saltwater gear lol
I thought this was a fake reel, I saw one post on instagram of someone owning one but it looks like a re designed slammer
I'm surprised but the slammer looks 3 times better and it's not close. The spool on the authority is boring af and looks flat/strange
When r you going to switch to j hooks and stop losing fish 🤣💀 we’re in Florida yanks fish with circle hooks
Only 20 lbs of drag for $500+? Tsunami 5000 30lbs drag $120.
Genuine drag ratings are done a dozen with reel specs. I own a penn slammer and penn authority and those drag ratings are spot on. Very strong drag systems
200$ more and Stella is life time reel :)
Okay but not everyone wants to buy a stella
@@aidanbell9967 true, but penn from China for 500$ is little bit overpriced. But you’re 100% correct, that’s why we have different companys
@@ivanjovanovic4502 to me overseas is overseas at this point. If the performance is good, I’d take it. I will admit that I’d love a Stella for some bluefin popping setups though
@@aidanbell9967 for me and my thinking Slammer IV is amazing choice, this one is step up but for double price,if im thinking to buy 500$ i will choose Daiwa or Shimano(and i love penn reels )

Are you giving away a kayak or is someone tryn to scam me. Justin mendez.
