If you can’t find these brands or are in a different country the components you want are an untinted base house paint (base c or d, base 3 or 4 whichever is lowest, deep base or ultra deep base or neutral base) plus a water based polyurethane gloss varnish to make up your Pouring Medium. If you want to try a more traditional pouring medium base because you can’t get certain components, TOTALLY go for it and give it a try 😃 it’s YOUR Art after all! 💜
Great video, Amazing bloom and swipe. I was wondering if you tried this combo with american floetrol as well? Also with the Amsterdam white cell activator. Would you recommend using a thicker titanium white for this combo? I have not tried the triple thick yet, but i have the others. I am having a lot of trouble with my cell activator it seems that it is either too thick or thin im assuming because it will cause crazing or that it will sink and all my cells are gone basically. Maybe even my colors are too thin, I am using mainly heavy body paints because thats what i have. I have had some luck wiht it working at times easier with the swipe. I am using valspar 2000 as a pillow. If you have any other videos with this info could you please tell me which ones to watch in the series. Hahaha oh my I just realized how many real variables I could have off after reading that, any help would be very appreciated thanks for the videos they are super helpful and informative.
Hey Jodi you are just so clever!! Thank you for your experiments and yet another option for a bloom pouring medium. You are way too humble my friend. As always, absolutely stunning. I love how you work, and I am now able to embellish thanks to you. I even had success at moving the pattern with the palette knife...I love that I can do that too! Thank you so much Jody...Happy Thanksgiving!!
Thank you so much Kat, I’m glad you liked them! 🤗 Those colors boy they are something, they are different every time I lay them out and then mixing up the layering, so versatile! 😃🤗💜💜
I do things with my left hand all the time…it’s not that hard. 😂 😂 Now making my right hand work, that can be Interesting! This was very informative. Thanks for testing and sharing with us.
That bloom made me sing! I’m having a bad week with painting. Everything is turning out, drying poorly, nothing keepable. Welcome to switching climates!
Oooh I know that changing of the seasons well, I was in the middle of it about 3-4 weeks ago and just now getting everything stabilized for winter. Unless of course it gets below zero then nothing will work 😂. Thank you so much Melissa! 💜
Thanks for the timely info, Jodie! Just filled both of my humidifiers but good to know about the changes to the ingredients will also make a difference.
You’re welcome, environment definitely plays a role not only in your paints but how things cure including your paints and your resins (I’m learning this last one right now as it’s cooler in my studio than normal, things are taking longer to cure!) 💜
Oh that’s so awesome Steve, I’m so glad you like those colors too. If they took all my paints away and left me with those three colors only, I’d be ok with it 😃. Thank you so much Steve 🤗💜
Thank you Laurie 🤗 you can use whatever paint you want to use, I prefer house paint as it works well for me with the techniques I’m doing. It’s absolutely personal preference along with the technique you want to create 💜
Merci beaucoup de partager tous ces produits qui rendent vos créations si resplendissantes. Je rêve de faire de si belles cellules. J espère pouvoir trouver ces produits en France; A bientôt
You're a magician! I so wish to have access to the same material which we don't have in South Africa. I must now experiment with local products.....it's a struggle!!
I totally feel your struggle Berto, it was the same way with me when I first learned this technique, everything was Australian products so I had to find US products to work for me. But I did learn a lot along the way so have fun with it! 🤗💜🌺
Yes! I have been thinking the Jo Sonja is causing my good cells to very slowly melt or lose shape. I get great cells then they melt a little. The paint relaxes to much. I will have to find the triple thick and try it. 🤔
The regular Varathane polyurethane works amazing too, that’s what I was testing in this video and I found it a bit clearer than the triple thick. I’m switching over because it’s cooler here so my paints are thickening and the triple thick is making my paints a bit too thick now lol, it’s always something! I love the jo sonja but with certain high gloss base paints it just gets too slippery for my cells. Let me know how it works out for you Jodi! 😊
So beautiful, Jodi! I love how the background is a lovely matte finish and it really allows the colors and cells to stand out. Is that because you use the eggshell for your base and semi- or gloss varnish in the colors? I'm always in awe of your ability and love that you share so much of what you've learned - thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much Holly, I really appreciate that 🤗. Yes, the pillow or base paint I use is either satin or eggshell so it’s going to dry more matte than the colors I mix with my pouring mediums. Those dry glossier depending on the untinted base paint I use as well as the varnish, some are glossier than others. When you have negative space you really notice the difference between the different paints. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 💜💜
Very nice! Have you ever tried Minwax Polycrylic since it is also thinner than the Triple Thick? I'm curious whether the polyurethane performs better than polyacrylic. I also wonder why you don't use water to your mixtures.
Thank you Marie 🤗 I have tried the polycrylic with other untinted bases but not the Valspar. I have switched over to the regular Varathane now instead of the triple thick because it was getting too thick for me especially in winter. I think it just boils down to personal preference with the polycrylic and the regular Varathane as I think they are about the same consistency and what’s available to you. If you have it I say give it a go 🤗. I don’t add water to my mixtures because adding too much can break down the binders in your paints and mediums causing havoc in your piece so I’d rather use something else if I can. A little is okay but just be aware if you do use it 💜
Whew, girl, you said it!! I live in NM, the BEHR/Infinity/Josonja for tubes and BEHR/Josonja for pigments was excellent for me. But this week I can't get rid of the gloops!! Lord have mercy! I used almost all my GAC800 and put a serious dent in my minwax to thin my paints to a workable though not ideal consistency. I laughed because I had just bought the Varathane regular in a gallon as the smaller sizes were sold out. We still can't get the Valspar Ultra in either semi or gloss in base C here. Lowes has a "shipping" problem that's lasted all summer up to now. No hope in sight for restock. I've never actually been able to try that. I sure wish I could find a suitable or compatible alternative. My results from this week are less than impressive, between the thickening/ thinning process, I'm not sure what to do. I think there's such a thing as too much Poly. Maybe not too much GAC but that's stuff is not cheap and Poly was the best because of cost. I am relegated to my garage for my art, it's not fully insulated, though I have two commercial heaters, it's still expensive to run them to keep my garage at 65° or above, which seems to be the sweet spot for painting. So... I'll fiddle with that new Varathane the rest of this week and hope I find a balance. Any how, awesome results for your test pieces today, thanks again for all you share to help us who are just beginning. Happy Thanksgiving Jodi!! Smiles and blessings...
Oh boy do I know the gloops girl! I feel your pain! I’m having similar issues but this Varathane regular is just amazing so give it a go and see how it works out for you. Also you can change your ratios or use no ratio at all. Add some of your untinted base to your container with just a little paint and mix, then add in your varnish a little at a time until you get the consistency you want. It takes some practice but for thicker bases it’s easier then fiddling with a ratio. Also, maybe stick to more soft body or fluid paints to mix in with your PM mix it’ll help keep the gloopiness down. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Lisa! 💜💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer yep, just went and bought them there fluid paints, whew... then things are pricey I sure hope they last, I hear they are twice as pigmented so I'll go kid gloves to start... otherwise I may have to go all pastel colors for a while...lol! Smiles and blessings...
@@hisimagenme With the more pigmented colors you don’t use as much start with just a little and add drops as you go if needed, they definitely last longer 🤗
I love both of these, although I think I am partial to the bloom. But the colors are gorgeous together! Love how your followers have increased! 🌸🌸🌸. P. S. I also love and appreciate how you do the experimentation and share in detail with us. 💜
Oh I’m so glad Kathy, thank you so much!! 🤗 You know me and experimenting I feel like it’s part of my DNA haha! And if I find something cool I just have to share 💜💜💜
I will write that down Linda thank you! 😃 When I read this an image popped in my head similar to the monochromatic blue and then purple ones I did. I think pink and coral will be just beautiful. It’ll be a little bit but I’m definitely putting it on my list to do. Thanks again for the suggestion! 💜💜
FYI- that regular Varathane is the best for floor finish. It does not scale over time in wet spots near outside doors. The viscosity makes it dry in a flash, so layers can be done in a shorter space of time. It wears thin after many years but does not scale or turn yellow. It is super tough and binds with the wood much better than any other product I've used.
No silly questions Julie 🤗 I believe your silk is similar to our satin so you can certainly use it. You just don’t want to use flat as it can crack, you want a low sheen (satin or eggshell or whatever in between and what they may call it there). Hope this helps! 💜
Happy Thanksgiving Carole! 🤗 Thank you so much. I do have a pigments video, I believe it’s number 66. It was with older pouring mediums I was using compared to now but it’s still the same way I mix them 💜
❤Master, Thank you for your wonderful lesson. I have a question. I bought a medium C base to mix with Minwax Polycrylic gloss varnish. matt This paint is matte. It's not semi-gloss, it's matte. There was no other. Will matte work?
You want a semi gloss or a gloss for your paint, the matte typically won't work as well. You can certainly try it and see but if it gives you issues it's probably because it's too matte.
The dried piece at the end isn’t coated with anything yet, it’s still just the dried piece so that’s just the pouring mediums I’m using coming through. When I do finish my pieces I’ll either varnish them with Liquitex varnish or a resin 😊
If I had to choose only one to use forever it would be the Valspar Ultra hi gloss base c mixed with the regular Varathane varnish the Ultimate Polyurethane water based crystal clear gloss. My Dutch Boy/jo sonja is a close second but again if I had to choose only one it would be the first 😉💜
Thank you so much Diana 🤗, I use a mix of untinted house paint and varnish for my pouring medium. I learned that when I took the Shelee Art course but am finding that this medium is very versatile and can be used for more than just blooms (just don’t torch it with the varnish in it!). The cell activator I used here was Australian floetrol and Amsterdam paint but I’ve been known to use US floetrol with a few other ingredients too for cell activator. I like to experiment on this channel so not all videos will I use the same products or ingredients. I usually show them at the beginning or end of a video in pictures what was used as well as in the description box below each video in case you are ever looking 💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer Almost all my paintings are experimental. lol They don't turn out like yours though. I have a lot of flops, But I post them because I just think that people need to see what doesn't work as well or if a tweak fixes the issue. I really want to try using the varnish, the results are just beautiful. does doing that eliminate the need to varnish at the end when the piece is dry? That would be a welcome thing. Thank you for taking the time to write me such a detailed message and sharing your work/ expertise with the rest of us. Happy New Year!
@@dianavestal850 I'm not sure it eliminates the need to varnish your piece once it's cured as I still resin or varnish all my pieces but some don't so it's really up to you. In this instance you are using it as a part of your pouring medium so it really isn't a topcoat but again totally up to you :)
Hi. Really love what you do. Such beautiful colours and interesting ideas. Very inspirational. Can I just ask, are the tins of paint you show house paint? I live in Ireland so I don’t think I’d get that brand, I’ve never seen it anyway. Is it interior house paint? Do you use this as a pouring medium instead of floetrol? I’m interested in trying different options.
Hi Kylie 🤗 thank you so much, I’m so glad. The tins of paint are an untinted house paint & varnish for the pouring medium and then a white interior house paint for the base/pillow. You won’t be able to get the brands I use here in the US but if you’ve watched Erica Hughes here on UA-cam she’s in Ireland and she uses a Valspar untinted for her medium and then another for her pillow/base paint. She does alot of Dutch pours on her channel but also a lot of blooms and swipes with those ingredients I mentioned. She’ll have the exact products listed in her videos where she does them if you want to check her out! Hope this helps 💜
Thanks for such a detailed reply. I really love the transfer pours. They remind me of the beautiful fungi that grows on the trees in my wood. Definitely one I want to try. Keep experimenting, it’s inspiring to watch. 😊
I usually just add more floetrol if my CA is on the thicker side. You can try adding small amounts of water but too much and it may do weird things so just keep that in mind 🤗
Those both came out beautiful and I've noticed the yellowing of the triple thick as well I tried putting it over a painting a while back and it definitely left a yellow haze over it but I just ordered a can of Behr polyurethane due to the paint being so thick due to this weather and I'm using semigloss base 3 so it's already a thicker paint but I'm about to try the Behr to thin it and see how it goes, I did do a splotch and loved how clear and plastic like it came out and it's also water thin so I'll let you know how it reacts if you haven't tried it, it may be another option.. oh I found a dollar tree that is closer to my house today and I'm sooo excited 😆 😂 😊 they have a great selection too I could spend hours in there lol oh can you tell me is their a certain temp it needs to be for resin I know it can't be too hot but my resin is soft and bendy and it's a casting resin I think it's too cold in here now but idk if that's the issue im lost on resin I'm truly loving the decoart triple thick glaze right now but I need to use this resin before it goes yellow on me. Anyhow love these two pieces both are stunning I'd love it if the colors covered the corners on that swipe and you just had that big swipe in the center and the negative space around it but I'm glad you stopped spinning when you did because I love how the middle swipe is on the end and would have hated to see you lose that part and that bloom omgosh gorgeous 😍🥰🤗 as always great work!!
Thank you so much girl! Did you use the triple thick as an actual varnish over a piece and it yellowed? I do see it changing colors a little in the can but when I use it in my pouring medium I don’t notice any yellowing even when I do a white negative space. It could be because so little of it is used and it’s mixed with other things but I was totally floored when I used this regular varathane. I’m definitely going to be using this in the winter months! Let me know how you like the Behr poly, are you using it as a varnish or in your medium or both? I love that you get so excited about dollar trees too haha! I also just found a new one by me I think that makes 6 around me now 😂😂. For resin typically curing temp for epoxy resin is 65-75 degrees BUT it also depends on that particular resin as some vary slightly so check out their website for specifics. Since it’s casting resin I don’t know if the temps would be different as I’ve not used it only the regular epoxy resin. KS goes up to 80 degrees which is why I started using it late summer. I notice when I’m using the KS Resin now at about 65-67 degrees after 24 hours it’s still plyable so I think it just may take longer to cure in temp that low. I wouldn’t go any lower than 65. Hope this helps! 💜💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer yes I used the triple thick to varnish a piece and you could definitely see the yellowing but I say we can't really tell in our pm due to it being so diluted after all it is a 3-1 mixture but so far so good with the Behr poly I'm using it in my pm instead of the triple thick and it's doing great cells look good no issues so far!! Yes I do get excited over the dollar tree it's like a yard sale you never know what you might find and everythings $1 how can it get any better lol 😂 yeah it's probably like 60° in here it's very hard to heat I'm thinking of making a drying shelf in my living room for resin only so it's in a more stable heated environment I keep thinking about when I mixed the resin and thinking I didn't mix it well enough due to the fact my cup was too full and my stick was too short I definitely tried to mix too much at once because I was taking 2 6" wood rounds and making a bowl out of them I'm going to mix a smaller batch tonight and see if it goes bad again it may just be the resin or it could be me or the temp I'm going to find out tonight lol
@@cwv-artistry Ahh ok, that makes sense then about the triple thick. I agree, I feel like so little is used with the paints and other mediums it doesn't have a chance to turn yellow that way. I'm glad you are liking the behr poly, I'll have to look into it at some point. I did something super stupid myself with a couple resined pieces since it's cooler down in my studio things take longer to cure. Normally after 24 hours I remove the tape and move it over to my drying rack. Well I did that with 2 of my LP vinyls that I had just resined and put them on my rack but they weren't completely flat so they moved on me and cured with a warp in them the way they were sitting. I just learned another lesson! Ugh ... note to self, put on a completely flat surface for a few days when it's cold! I say this because your issue it could be the cold too but also if it wasn't mixed well you could also have issues that way too so I would definitely try again with a smaller batch. Let me know how it goes! :)
@@ThePaintedDreamer oh gosh I hate that they dried that way could you possibly put another coat of resin on them and put them back on that rack in the opposite direction they were sitting?? I was going to do a new batch last night to test it again before I put it on grumpy bear but I ended up with the flu and slept like 24hrs but I'm gonna try again soon so I can order more if the resin is the issue I pray it's not cuz I ordered the gallon set ugh 😩
@@cwv-artistry Yea it's a bit of a bummer but I've turned them and it looks like they are a little less warped. I'm going to frame them anyway so all may not be lost. Either that or I keep them for myself which is totally fine :D. I'm so sorry to hear you had the flu, I hope you are feeling better now!
Hi Jodie, I'm in New Zealand so just wondering if you could clarify a few things please because our Valspar paint has different names here. Is your pillow paint and base paint water based acrylic or enamel? Thanks in advance 💕
I was watching Carole from Carol's Art Room yesterday and she did a simplistic Bloom that looks like a up swept flower. Have you seen it and have you tried anything like it? Just curious! Thank you for this experiment, I have this varnish, but haven't tried it yet. I haven't gotten any of the Valspar paint yet, still working with Behr. I have a can off Behr that says it's 2-8300, is it the same as 8300 you use?
I have not done any kind of bloom like that but I’ve seen Niki D doing them 🤗. The 2-8300 is a little different then the regular 8300. That 2-8300 is sold in states where the regular one isn’t allowed due to ingredient restrictions. I think it may have a little more T white in it but it still works! I’ve seen Mina Villegas using it and her stuff is just beautiful 😃💜
Hi Carol! That Varathane Triple Thick I normally use on the back of my can it says a Rustoleum company so I think Varathane is owned by them. Therefore I’m going to say your triple thick is pretty much the same as what I have 🤗
If you can’t find these brands or are in a different country the components you want are an untinted base house paint (base c or d, base 3 or 4 whichever is lowest, deep base or ultra deep base or neutral base) plus a water based polyurethane gloss varnish to make up your Pouring Medium. Love them both! And love your go to test colors!😎
Haha! Yea but your a lefty so it’s easy for you 😃. I’m glad it was helpful for you my dear! 💜💜💜
just love the colors, I can see why they are your favorite :)
🤗 Thank you so much Gail!! 💜
I greatly appreciate your videos. Thank you for sharing your journey!! Michelle
You’re very welcome Michelle, I’m so glad they help 🤗💜
C'est Magnifique ! 👍💝
Merci beaucoup Pascale 🥰
Exceptional creation! Thank you!❤❤❤
Thank you so much Sheila!! 💜💜💜
BEAUTIFUL as always.
Thank you so much Lorrie! 💜
Magnifiques couleurs! Très belles cellules! Bravo!
Thank you so much Rita! 🤗
They're beautiful!
Thank you Melissa! 🤗💜
This is fantastic. Excellent work.
Thank you so much! 🤗💜
Absolutely stunning❤️
Thank you so much Laura! 🤗💜
Beautiful Jodie 😁. We've been using your 3 favorite colors for a while now and the results are just great.... thanks so much 💕
Oh that’s so awesome Steve, I’m so glad you like those colors too. If they took all my paints away and left me with those three colors only, I’d be ok with it 😃. Thank you so much Steve 🤗💜
I really like it better when we used Artist Loft instead of all this stuff we have to use with the house paint. That is absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you Laurie 🤗 you can use whatever paint you want to use, I prefer house paint as it works well for me with the techniques I’m doing. It’s absolutely personal preference along with the technique you want to create 💜
Hi there. Watched this a second time. I love this one
Oh I’m so glad Lori, thank you so much!! 💜💜
That is beautiful reminds me of like a dragon head😊😅
Jodi, another aaa+ video. Happy thanksgiving, looking forward to your next one. Thank you

Well thank you so much Josie, I’m so glad you liked them! 💜💜
Stunning love it!!
Thank you so much Mercedes, I’m so glad you liked it! 😃🤗💜
Hey, that's what I say sometimes, LOL. Winner winner chicken dinner for sure!! Great tips....
Oh my gosh that’s so awesome Dovey! 😃💜
Hey Jodi
Love it I’ve missed you
And your beautiful pieces
Thank you Judith 🤗 I’ve missed your comments 💜💜
Amazing my little Creative wizard, it’s a wonderful swipe, you’ve got my address. 🥰🕊🚙
Thank you so much my friend! I so love these colors together! 🤗💜🤗
Gorgeous!
🤗 Thank you Pam! 💜
Awesome Jodie.
Thank you Sherry! 💜
Triple thick reminds me of sweetened condense milk. Haha!... I love all the colors in this bloom, Jody!😍😍😍
Yesss! That’s it!! It does look like that doesn’t it! 🤗 I’m glad you liked it Cyndy 💜💜
Beautifully nice cells
Thank you so much Linda! 💜
I would love to see you do a bloom in pink and coral
I will write that down Linda thank you! 😃 When I read this an image popped in my head similar to the monochromatic blue and then purple ones I did. I think pink and coral will be just beautiful. It’ll be a little bit but I’m definitely putting it on my list to do. Thanks again for the suggestion! 💜💜
Nice job! Great info. The colours ❤️ Happy Thanksgiving 🤗
Happy Thanksgiving to you Mama Dulas! I’m so glad you liked it, thank you!! 💜💜
Thanks for all the info
You’re very welcome Jim! 😊
Totally stunning! Try with USA floetrol in CA and tell us if it’s as pretty! Txz., Jeanne
Ooh that would make for some fun cells Jeanne, I’ll add it to my list to do .. thank you so much!!
This is awesome to hear, thank you so much for this! I was absolutely amazed by the clarity of it! 🤗
Thank you. The gac 800 thins the paint out?
You’re welcome Margarete, yes, I use it to thin my mixed paints if they’ve gotten a little thick on me from sitting 😊
I like it👍
I’m glad you liked it Kate, thank you 🤗💜
sorry if this a silly question but for the pillow paint (I'm in UK) does it have to be satin or would silk paint do, thanks great video
No silly questions Julie 🤗 I believe your silk is similar to our satin so you can certainly use it. You just don’t want to use flat as it can crack, you want a low sheen (satin or eggshell or whatever in between and what they may call it there). Hope this helps! 💜
Happy Thanksgiving Jodie. This is very cool. Do you have a video of how you mix up pigments?
Gorgeous 😍❤🙏🇦🇺🐨
🤗 Thanks Gina! 💜💜
What are you using to coat your paintings because it has got a nice mild sheen to it not like oil based varnish or resin ? 🤠
The dried piece at the end isn’t coated with anything yet, it’s still just the dried piece so that’s just the pouring mediums I’m using coming through. When I do finish my pieces I’ll either varnish them with Liquitex varnish or a resin 😊
OK so after all is said and done, what is absolute favorite PM recipe?? :-)
If I had to choose only one to use forever it would be the Valspar Ultra hi gloss base c mixed with the regular Varathane varnish the Ultimate Polyurethane water based crystal clear gloss. My Dutch Boy/jo sonja is a close second but again if I had to choose only one it would be the first 😉💜
Beautifl
Thank you Karla 🤗
Super pretty, I never thought to use a varnish as a pour medium. What is your cell activator? Thanks for the video, your work is lovely.
@@ThePaintedDreamer thanks again for the feedback, so appreciated.
Happy eyes here!
I’m so glad Bettie, thank you! 💜
Jody I was wondering if you ever add water to the CA if it gets too thick?
I usually just add more floetrol if my CA is on the thicker side. You can try adding small amounts of water but too much and it may do weird things so just keep that in mind 🤗
@@ThePaintedDreamer thanks I appreciate you replying

Oh my gosh haha!! 🤗
Hi Jodie, I'm in New Zealand so just wondering if you could clarify a few things please because our Valspar paint has different names here. Is your pillow paint and base paint water based acrylic or enamel? Thanks in advance 💕
Hi 🤗 the pillow and untinted base paints I use are latex as opposed to oil so they are more water based 💜
Est ce que tu ajoute du silicone pour l’effet cellules?
Perfect😊🎉❤ blowout
How do you keep the wood from falling off when you tilt?
There’s paint on the spinner that adheres to it so it doesn’t move 😊
Have you used any other Pigments than Piggies? I have some from Mad Micas, Colour Arte, This Little Piggies, Pearl Ex and some others.
Yes, I’ve used some ColourArte (I have a few favorite colors there) and then I have some pearlex I’ll use from time to time 🤗
@@ThePaintedDreamer T hank you!
@@ThePaintedDreamer Happy Thanksgiving Jodie and family! Thank you, Mina and I both live in California that's probably the problem!
@@terilechner Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Teri! 💜💜💜

I have rust oleum triple thick polyurethane instead of Varathane can I use that?
Hi Carol! That Varathane Triple Thick I normally use on the back of my can it says a Rustoleum company so I think Varathane is owned by them. Therefore I’m going to say your triple thick is pretty much the same as what I have 🤗
Very beautiful love ❤️
Thank you so much Angela! 🤗💜
