Zoro didn’t give up…he just simply lost in a DEATH match and he even says himself “a swordsmen’s greatest shame is a wound in the back” or whatever meaning to me that he admits he lost but he’s not gonna run or go back on his word but accept full on what’s happening (keep in mind it was him who challenged Mihawk to the duel) and take the wound in the front and not in the back (hence him just giving in and letting him get slashed)…again it was a DEATH match and zoro lost, so Mihawk not killing him is great respect
Loved your reaction to the emotional parts and I so agree that Zeff went straight into my faves after this ep as well. His actor is SO GOOD, like I believed every word he said about the All Blue and why he made those sacrifices to save Sanji. Their parent-child relationship is so real and nuances and beautiful. I’m so grateful they were both honest enough with themselves that they had a real and sincere farewell. That scene makes me cry every time. 😢
Fun fact: The anime censored that of Zeff eating his leg, they made him lose it when he falls to the sea during the storm and then gave no real explanation of how he survived with no food for so long, just made him look terrible and at the edge of death. The live action is actually an adaptation of the manga.
Weirdly, I read the manga and watch the anime. I prefer the Anime version for one thing, Zeff doesn't have a choice of which leg to cut. In the manga he could have cut the left leg as his right is the dominant one. But then there's the problem of how he survived that long without food, but I can headcanon that he went into an almost hibernation state as someone in his caliber could probably do that.

In the Manga he willingly gives up his leg when he didn’t have to for Sanji. I kinda get what you’re trying to get at but Zeff losing his agency brings down how emotional it is.

I loved this episode! The last one kept me up late to watch this one which then had me weepy on the way to bed. I think the next two are emotional but not necessarily crying so. But you may want to find any orange in your wardrobe (bright blue is good too, which you will see next episode but like horizontal stripes are good too)
Fun fact! Zoro and Sanji are the #1 ship from the One Piece universe, in the way of fanmade romance content (IE: Fanfiction). I absolutely love that there is no cannon romance in the crew. It would distract from the plot too much. But their relationship in the show is great. I can’t wait to see how they translate it into the live action.
Zoro did the exact opposite of giving up. Giving up in a duel to the death would be trying to run away. He put his life on the line and he knew that going in, so he faced his death with dignity, accepting that Mihawk was simply the greater swordsman. That's why he said 'wounds on the back are a swordsman's greatest shame'. If he had tried to run from the fight, that would have been going back on what he set out to do, which was fight a duel to the death.
I almost don't want to say what's different from the manga/anime compared to the Live Action just because I hope you actually consider watching the anime. I know you look at the 1000+ episodes and see it as daunting, but for me, it's all about the journey and not the destination. Wherever you are on that route, you're going to have a memorable time. You can look up all of the fillers you don't need to watch, that are unimportant to the story (except 1 filler arc you should absolutely check out) which shortens it by maybe 200 episodes. There's just so much to unpack where I'm at the point where I'm caught up to like 15 episodes left of the anime and I'm kind of sad that there isn't more beyond that yet. As far as what's different, Arlong isn't at Baratie, neither is Buggy. Also Sanji's sending off, he bowed to Zeff, showing respect. Lastly, that Noland story was added for foreshadowing (only anime/manga people would get it).

I think you're forgetting Zoro said it was a duel to the death, one of them had to die, that was the deal ZORO made. So, obviously, once he sees he's not going to win, he accepts his death and takes it with honor. That's not giving up or losing your will, that's honor, maturity and acceptance. He didn't make it be more fatal that it could have been, in fact that's what made him win Mihawk's respect, making him forgive his life.

The main differnce here with the live action compared to the anime in terms of story/plot is Garp being Luffy's grandfather. It's keeping true to the story, they are related like that, however the live action just introduced it MUCH earlier than the anime, the reveal wasn't made until the 400-500 episode mark.
It kind of bothers me the amount of spoilers that seem to have been dropped in comments over the last few episodes, based on what you've said. Only a matter of time before someone spoils something massive and ruins the reaction.
It’s a bit different in the anime and manga. Zeff loses his leg in a different way in the anime, but it doesn’t really make as much sense and isn’t as shocking as eating your own leg. The intent from the manga is definitely there. The goodbye scene hits hard in the manga/anime too, but I don’t think I teared up like I did in this. The dialogue and acting between Sanji and Zeff in this is special.
Fun Fact : The book Nami is reading to Zoro is another easter egg that is important to the story later on, such a great job all around to give anime and manga fans fun things to think about😁 I sense more crying in the last 2 episodes left.....

I know, was I the only one who was taught that if you fall in the water with your clothes on you need to take them off? Or at least the heavier clothing - I think he should've taken his shoes off first, but I guess he thought it would protect his feet better.
Zoro DID NOT give up, he just realised he wasn't going to win, that he was the weakest of the two. Once with that there's no more reason for him to keep going trying to beat him bc he knows he can't, he knows he lost, and that's a *fact* . Once with that the whole reason of the battle is done, he wanted to prove he was the best, he realised he isn't, that's it. He said it was going to be to the death, so he won't go on and ask him 'pls don't kill me', there's no reason and it's also going against his own word, that's not giving up, that's accepting the challenge you put to yourself with other person (as it goes both ways) with pride and honor. Once he knows he's going to die, he wants to do it with that honor, and as wounds on the back are a shame for swordsmen, he takes the final blow facing his opponent. He just recognized he was going to die so decided to go with honor in the place of fighting unnecessarily, that's not giving up.
Zoro was simply accepting the consequences of his own actions when he requested the duel. He stated from the beginning that it was to the death. After his ultimate attack failed, he knew that not only could he not win, but the gulf between them was so wide that even bothering to keep fighting was pointless and futile. He invited the kill shot because he was taking their duel very seriously. He was trying to kill Mihawk with everything he had, it would be hypocritical to expect mercy from an opponent you picked a fight to the death with.

Plus I also think that Sanji is a bit frightened of going on a sea voyage after what happened last time, plus he has some self confidence issues (re much later in the anime and manga storyline) and most of all he doesn't want to leave Zeff because he loves Zeff and knows Zeff loves him. When two things you want clash.....

I have been taught by masters." Always figured it definitely applies to Magneto and Killmonger, still deciding in this story.
