The film is notable for being one of only two movies shot in Psychorama, a stylistic gimmick which incorporated subliminal imaging onscreen.[3][4][5] Psychorama, also known as the Precon Process, is an example of the "pure hype and hucksterism" which was a component of the "effort to (...) cash in on the mid-1950s controversy over subliminal advertising."[6]

Did anyone else notice the faces that flashed up for an instant while the woman was narrating at the start of the movie? I think subliminal ‘messages’ or images as they are called, were banned in the 60’s - 70’s. Advertisers used them to sell more of their products. I’ve not noticed them before in films of the 50s. Certainly focused my attention at the start of the movie.
I wasn't sure, then thought. No that flick was too obvious. Played in slow motion 0.25x at 08:37, and pressed space repeatedly a lot. Very funny, I wonder if in the 50s if that freaked people out. Not being able to pause in the theatre. It was hard to get that one frame with modern technology.
I think I caught a glimpse of the subliminal comment pop ups during the segment on 'subliminal influence'. If you were like me trying to figure out Vincent's subliminal message... it said "Why the heck do I talk about my hair so much when it's obviously a wig!" LOL. Keep rocking CF only fans here!
Fun guest! "...you'll definitely see the tops of the players' heads." 😂 Enjoyed the movie. A thriller. Wasn't sure which guy was going to be the killer until the end.
In Sonoma Sun; the community independent voice, has a nice Oct 31 article indirectly about the poulter mansion and the blue wing in that points to how the blue lady ghost came to be.
To make people feel better - if you missed the subliminal images in the film tonight, maybe you need not feel bad too about it. The art used for the subliminal images is very "1950's comic-booky", so, if you don't like that style of art, if you aren't into "EC comicbook art", then you missed nothing. Nada to worry about.
@@tombennett8977 It was a marketing gimmick similar to the W. Castle gimmicks, where "subliminal" images were used in the film, sometimes with a phrase. So cheesy you need a 🥖 to go with it.
What's with the cartoon face popping up for a millisecond every now and then? :/ Is it a strange watermark, or is it an attempt to gaslight the audience? (go to @9:47 and turn playback to .25 to slow it down as much as possible. It pops up between 9:48 and 9:49. That's the second one I've seen up to this point) Now back to the movie... Oh, ok, the movie has numerous 'subliminal' images in it. Hum. Not very subliminal if you see them though... :p
Ok, so where did Mark come from at the end? He just kind of showed up in the room. Also, why did he kill himself on the axe? He had to pretty much thrust himself on the axe.
Another one, that must've slipped by me back in the days, of yor (late '60's, early'70's). Love the fact that it wasn't, an actual horror film. I wonder if that actor Gerald Mohr, is the father of comedian, Jay Mohr🤔??? They look an awful lot, like one another.
Gerald Mohr died in 1968 but he had one son named Andrew jeffrey Mohr in 1947, who served for twenty-six years as a judge on the Superior Court of California. Maybe the judge's son is the father of comedian Jay Mohr, as Andrew is the spitting image of his father Gerald Mohr who is in this movie. Although Jay Mohr was born in the 70's-I loved him when he was in a tv show called the Ghost Whisperer.
I counted 8 subliminals, with 2 pics. the first is bald, with glasses and a rat in his mouth. The other has horns, pointy ears, big teeth and a long tongue.
Because they respected themselves and those they came in contact with from day to day. This predates today's culture of self loathing. And to call out a person's appearance these days could make big problems for a person these days as everyone is a bunch of namby pamby wimpy dorks. I like the hats, jackets, ties, and my favorite thing ever.....pipes!!! Haha....think I'll go puff on some sweet Virginias right now!! Good day......and much respect, ha
Between 8:16 & 8:18 you have a Graphic Image of a face with Glasses....a one frame image....and at 8:26 you have the face of a (lololol) I guess it is supposed to be a demon with horns and grinning with its tongue sticking out from under its very sharp teeth also a one framer.....these two characters and possibly more are throughout the movie. Yep...they are throughout the movie lololol.

Good old flick. Always cracks me up when someone in these old movies lights a candle or lamp and the room lights up like the Las Vegas strip..
😂😂😂
Thank you Vincent tangella Mr Sir Livingston for being here 💯🦇🦇🦇🦇
I'm not the only person catching the demon's head that' sbeing flashed on occasion during the narrator's intro, yes?
Ahhh.....someone else mentioned subliminals in this film. I will be on the lookout
Guess I saw several different ... an old man's head plus one or two more

I love this movie, scared me to death. My kids loved the subliminal. 😖😖

Hey everyone
Those subliminal images are annoying
I am suprised that Tangela didn't love the movie, it featured a homicidal axe wielding maniac!
🤣🤣🪓
Love the show but is Vincent Australian? He doesn't sound British
He's from California. That's his "character" you see in the show. He does a good job.

Because they respected themselves and those they came in contact with from day to day. This predates today's culture of self loathing.
