i think thats part of being a photographer in our field, alot of your shots have changed for the better, make sure you dont compare yourself to anyone, i too have days where i could shoot for hours and hate every shot. youre doing great man keep your head up. youve developed a wide range of style in my opinion. another great video bro.

I really appreciate this man, thanks so much. I was definitely in a rough patch when I made this one, but you're absolutely right, it's just part of the process and we always have bad days. It's actually normal especially in street to take more photos that you don't like than ones that you do.

For me it´s the most impressive, honest, and refreshing video about this topic. When you start your photography journey as i do, sometimes you will reach the point, when you´re done with videos, in which someone tells you, what to do, and what to leave.
Thanks a lot for sharing your impressions.

I appreciate this! Thank you for watching and commenting. At the end of the day, the best way to learn is to go out there and practice, and our voice will come through over time without us realizing it 🙏

This was a great listen, Jared. Something ive wanted to do recently is look at more photos books and websites of many different photographers and see what speaks to me and study others to see what type of images I connect to. Similar to what you describe I guess. I often feel lost in having an identity with my images and shoot different things, so I wanted to do this to refocus on what I actually enjoy and connect with and want to shoot.

This sounds great!! It all absolutely helps, and gives us a direction to work with. I will say, nothing is a better substitute than going out and shooting ourselves 🙏 something I've realized after making this video is that our style forms naturally over time without us even realizing it. It makes it fun when you've taken a bunch of photos, look back on them and realize a pattern in what you're looking for. I hope this video helped and you've found some clarity lately as well!

I think it’s good to slow down, step back and take a deep breath. Moving to New York is such a big change, the chaos, the opportunities, the people so much to take in. If every day was perfect, how would we learn? The important thing is you enjoy what you do, you are helping others, and you are allowing yourself to grow and learn. Keep on your path and follow your dreams and just enjoy what you are doing!

Thanks so much!! I actually didn't film that night, and while the flash was a ton of fun, I might be too nervous to use it in my day to day work flow 😂 personally. There is a fun Christmas event happening in new york next weekend though that I plan to make a video about. So that'll be coming soon!

As a photographer, you’re always documenting. Will you document light and shadow? Will you document textures? Will you document the interaction between people and animals? Why would you document? Who do you document? How should you document them? Favorably or unfavorably? Now that you live in New York City, there is nothing you will be short of documenting. It can be the horse carriage rides at 57th St., at the base of Central Park. It can be the sanitation men in the early morning hours. It can be the immigrants selling their goods to bring home money to feed their family. It can be the protesters at UN Plaza. If you want to take a break from finding yourself, you can always do wedding photography, too. Maybe you can come away from that experience razor-sharp as to what you want and don’t want to do with your photography. You can sit outside the New York public library exactly at 41st St., and fifth Avenue. You can people watch from there and document what you’re doing. You’ll find many people to take pictures of. As an experiment, leave a piece of your body in the picture. As you people watch, document what you see, but you’ll see it from your perspective. That’s why I say leave a part of your body in the picture. For example, a lady walking her dog but with a corner of your knee in the picture or your feet crossed in front of you. It’s experimenting to see if you can make any discoveries of yourself for yourself. Look up, Henri Cartier-Bresson
    (French, 1908-2004)

Really like this comment Juan, thanks so much for sharing. You make a really good point in trying wedding photography or just something different to see what I like and don't like. I've actually been considering trying landscape photography for a change to give myself a refresh as well. Really like the idea of leaving a piece of my body in the photo too! That's really cool. You've given me a few things to think about! Thanks so much for this 🙏

Not a problem. I’m glad it can make a slight difference, if any. You should also check out another NYC photographer, Josh Katz. He’s also a “transplant” from somewhere else and feeds off the energy of the city, like you do. The only difference between the both of you is that you remain mellow whereas, he gets hyped. Congratulations on your move here and hope you can “jump start” your drive.

Forgive me but his channel name is simply, Josh Katz. His channel image is him with a bald head in a black shirt and a backpack.
